Attention to detail

Last Update: February 20, 2015

Sir Clive Woodward (famous ex-rugby coach in England) showed this sentence to the England Rugby Team and asked them to count the number of F’s. He gave them 10 seconds to study it. Have a go yourself, the sentence is:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF MANY YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF MANY YEARS.

Most of the players counted 3 F’s what did you get?

There are 6 F’s in total, most of the squad skim read the sentence overlooking the F’s in the 3 OF’s. The point of this task was to show that people often overlook the finite details of a problem. To be successful you have to look at every angle of a project. Woodward called it attention to detail, he concluded that without it, failure would be the only outcome.

I feel like this is true in my current goal of achieving a life away from my current profession and with the work I did on unlockthefear.com before I joined WA. The topic of making money online through marketing, SEO (search engine optimisation), blogging, web building etc. is massive there are so many things to understand and become competent at. It is vital that I consider all the aspects of each topic almost like building the foundations of a building before it is actually built. Without this attention to detail I may experience some success quickly but with no longevity.

Hey, I'm a skimmer, so my score wasn't good. I like the way after SEO you put the description. A lot of people don't understand that not everybody has a dictionary of computer speak. I agree good foundation and attention to detail are the key. I'll have to adjust my skimming.

Hi Mikey, I totally agree with you, paying attention to details is very important; we could miss key things when we don't take the time to do so. I got 6 Fs from the sentence not 5; there are actually 3 OFs. :-) I'm paying attention, what can I say. :-)
