News Flash: 80 Per Cent Of Affiliate Marketers Will Never Make It

Just to get us in the mood for the passing of another week, we can spend a little time reflecting on a few home truths - sorry about that.

It is a well known fact (covered in the Daily Telegraph recently) that the vast majority of new affiliate marketers won't crack the financial goal they are seeking, often giving up and going back to the day job.

So why does this happen?

I shall tell you.

Many of us come into affiliate marketing blind as bats.

We have very little concept of what it's all about. We've been dusted lightly by some fairy dust and sent off on our merry way in the hope that we will eventually make a sale.

But the truth of the matter is, around 90% of us will only see 200 bucks or less a month as an income. Not much to write home about.

BUT, the crunch comes with persistency.

ALL the best, most successful affiliate marketers will stick at it, work 60 hour weeks and 16 hour days for a few years at first. Why? Because that's EXACTLY what it takes.

You need to be in it for the long haul. This isn't a get rich quick scheme - in fact, it's not even a get rich in 12 months scheme either. It takes years of hard graft.

So it is worth it? Heck yes. But it's a business that shifts a gap between the men and the boys. The men will stick it out - the boys will get up and leave quickly.

So what's the lesson today? Stick at it.

Simple. These are the only three words that are important. They need to be your mantra. Drill them into your skull every day and you will get to where the rest of us are.

If you think I'm being too depressing - let me know!!

Sticking at it, Michelle :)

Thanks for the post. I'd like to say depressing, but it's not at all. Some people hit a home run and knock it out the park, right up front but those are few and far between. I saw it in Amazon selling - a few made BIG sales very QUICKLY but then we'll never know what went on behind the scenes and how they did it. The vast majority ... were lucky if they even recovered their investment in training.

So, no, it's not depressing at all. Real, Raw, and Refreshing!

Thank you
Gary

Not depressing, just realistic and the word should not be GRAFT, it should something that means 'work'

Hi Michelle, I'm loving your style of writing...as you illuminate the naked truth...no sugar coating which is extremely refreshing. To establish yourself as an affiliate marketer isn't at all easy to do and can involve an extremely hard slog and sacrifice...but as your post mentions...it is well worth the effort. Affiliate Marketing can prove very lucrative once you find your own groove. A friend of mine has just published her yearly break down earnings from Jan to Sept and it totals $146,490.05. which with October November and December she expects to total in excess of $182,000. Not a bad little earner...and she also admits that she could do so much better if she were to only focus more! Have a great evening and keep your posts coming :)

Yes I love the candid plain speak here, and I know this is the truth. Better to wake up early and know what it takes, or forever wear rose colored glasses. Well said and presented.

Could it be they need a little wise coaching Michelle?

Thanks Michelle,
Good to hear the stats... Actually, 20% success is better than I thought, but I was clueless about averages until now; I do appreciate the education.

I will stick with it, because I'm crazy tenacious about such things. I'm now over 15 years in my manufacturing business, and I'm still determined to make a profit at it - I don't believe past performance is the only, or even the best predictor of future success.

I look at blogging and affiliate marketing as writing, publishing and marketing businesses, so I'm working to build on decades of experience and training in those professions. Not all those who start this journey have such a foundation to build on, so my heart goes out to them, as they have steeper mountains to climb than I, and mine are plenty steep enough.

Anyway, "stick at it" is great advice. Confidence helps a lot with that, and I've more than my fair share of that. It might be wise for folks to take inventory of strengths, experience and passions that could support their success at this - that could be the basis for powerful confidence needed to help them to "stick at it"...

Right ON Michelle!

high five ! :)
