What are the pros and cons of selling products on Amazon Vs, Shopify store. ??

I just started learning recently about shopify store and it is quite convincing for me. Ple

I am learning about the different channels like Amazon and SHOPIFY, Aliexpress and Oberlo. I assume that These are all great channels. Amazon and SHOPIFY are loaded with great products. These two works hand in hand, so weigh it out, pros vs cons sort of speak. SHOPIFY has a great on line helper. 'Kit' They have all of the answers. and 'Kit' will work for free! Just apply..

Thank you for raising this question. As there are many helpful answers heard from this discussion.

I built a Shopify store and linked it with my Amazon FBA account so when buyers purchase from my website Amazon fulfills the order. Shopify also has the capability to do dropshipping through Oberlo. I have not done this yet. But I'm thinking about it. Setting up Shopify is as easy as WordPress, quite intuitive. The only thing I found that is not straightforward is setting up shipping cost - which should match up with what Amazon charges for the item. I had to be on the chat with a Shopify support rep to walk me through the process. By the way, their reps are quite knowledgeable. I never had any problems with them. If you are planning on having your own Shopify store, go for it. Best of luck Metilda !!!

Thanks Sery, for your valuable inputs. can you please clarify me following doubts about linking shopify with amazon?
1). even though Amazon has lot more visitors, isn't it extremely competitive. I mean, practically when a customer search for a product in Amazon, 100s of options will pop up. and we have to compete to appear on first page for the customer to click on ours??
2). Isn't there process with the product itself, that we need to design logo, inspect, pack, ship upto FBA centre and manage inventory? how do you manage that?
3). I am thinking of doing drop shipping only, that seems to be much more less work, but of course goods have to reach the customer from supplier on time.
4) as per marketing and promoting, both are same. but with shopify, we can create our own campaigns and promote anywhere?
5) . what about pricing and profit margin?

please feed me in with your valuable inputs.

thanks.

Yes there are many highly competitive niches on Amazon and those are also very profitable. But the cost of getting to page 1 - in order to get those eyeballs - is insanely expensive using PPC, AMS and other marketing strategies. By the way you are competing with Amazon too because they come up with their own product in those profitable niches.

If you want to create your own brand you need to register it on Amazon's brand registry. There is a long list of requirements to get approved.

Your supplier should be able to help you with product logo, shipment, etc. If you are just starting out I suggest you find a supplier who lives in the US who may be familiar with Amazon and start with a small inventory.

Dropshipping is definitely less work. Just find a reliable dropshipper who has stock and will ship on time. As I said I have not tried doing dropshipping yet so I cannot comment much about this.

There are tons of free resources on YouTube about Amazon, Shopify, dropshipping etc.

Good luck.

thanks Sery. that was greatly helpful.

Hi Sery, since you have experience in this area, I have one last question about this business.
Why would a customer wants to buy from Amazon or shopify store, when they can buy at a factory price and get it shipped directly to them from Aliexpress. at a lot cheaper price??

i cudnt find a convincing answer for this question in any of those resources.

thanks

Have you tried buying from Aliexpress? Yes it is cheap overall but shipping takes forever. I'm sure there are faster options but at a higher cost. I bought a cheap item once and it took more than a month from China to me in Canada. Some items did not even arrive at all. So I'm not sure if it was lost in the mail or they just took my money and did not really send the product. Cheaper is not always better.

You are very right Sery. However, drop shipping is done from Ali Express mostly right? which means, seller / promoters buy from Ali express, on behalf of customer that placed the order in thier shopify store ? how does this work ?
\thanks

Aliexpress is probably the most popular but there are lots of dropshippers out there. If you sign up for Shopify's newsletter they have a ton of information on dropshipping. Good luck.

and how does shopify compare to woocommerce? I've heard members say more flexibility with woo than shopify

I sitll havent explored woocommerce. may be it is similar. however, all of them will have atleast one cons or the other when comparing. we just have to choose for the one which we are comfortable for it.

for someone familiar with wordpress and already paying for hosting here in their membership it is worth exploring the flexibility of woocommerce, it's just a plugin without the extra costs - see chrisscott's 5 part training on it to see if it suits - everything comes down to personal preference in the end but always worth exploring all the options

sure thanks. Will learn about woocommerce too.
Whats your opinion about drop shipping?Have you done it before ? Is it convenient to drop ship from Ali express like portals to customers directly?
suggestion please
thanks

haven't done drop shipping...

Thanks I will look into it.

Shopify is a good network.Metilda A lot smaller and localized than Amazon of course. I've had some dealings with them and have not been disappointed!

Thanks Mkearns. yes you are right. there are pros and cons, I just started learning recently about shopify store and I am nearly getting convinced. I have revised and posted my question here, pls check again and share your thoughts.
thanks

Thank you Michael.

I don't have any experience with Shopify. In fact I've never heard about it. So I'll follow this thread because I really want to Know more about it. If it's a good thing, then we need not let this opportunity fly away. Thank you Metilda for raising this question.

Shopify is also physical products selling online. It is a platform where you can develop website and set up your own store of products of your niche. marginally different from Amazon, where you are the owner of your own store.
it is has got both options of managing inventory by linking with Amazon FBA or your own stock location, or drop shipping directly from supplier. Drop shipping i found a better option, coz you are just buying from supplier on customer behalf and have the supplier deliver the products to customer directly.
feed me your inputs, if you come across more infos.

thanks

Of course, marketing, promotion, getting traffics is what our major work will be in both cases. Amazon & Shopify store

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

WA Affiliate Program
Updated

Its been 5 days since I have joined WA as Prem Member.
I am not yet ready to write a review about WA, to promote it as an Affiliate. However, can anyone suggest me if I ca

I work for a large number of article brokers; iWriter.com, Hirewriters.com, Zerys.com, etc.

We receive many requests for reviews to be written about a lot of programs. (I even accepted one for Wealthy Affiliate about a month ago...)

Mickeyb

thanks mickey. noted your suggestions. will let you once i need. but the content have to written unique, even if the writers have done many reviews?

It absolutely MUST be unique because, whether you write it yourself or have someone else do it, it MUST be aligned with the same tone as the rest of your site.

THAT is why it is almost always better to write it yourself.

..and again, I say that while I still make money doing it for a great many people!

Could you pleas share with me some idea of how much does it cost for a minimal content/ lets say WA review??

You could be paying anywhere from $3.00 to $25.00 depending on the size and complexity of the piece you wanted and whether you needed a general writer or one rated as an expert. This, again, would depend also on what article broker you went through.

Thanks Mickey, will keep in mind .

Anytime, and you can also PM me....

If you hired one let me know

sure will let you know

I know some members use www.iwriter.com also www.textbroker.com :)

thanks a lot

No probs. you're most welcome! :)
