Do You Follow Followers?

I personally make a point of following everyone who follows me. I don’t always go over to their page and say hello but I know that If they write a blog post or ask a question I will get an email and I will do my best to go read or help if I can.

By following people which I do randomly as I see a comment left by them on a post and there is that little green button that says follow.

Why do I do this ?

You never know what you can learn from anyone in this huge community . Whether they are new or seasoned , everyone knows stuff, I don’t.

I make sure that every morning and evening I will spend a minimum of half an hour reading and commenting (where I can) on posts or questions. Mostly It is acknowledging and supporting someone. Sometimes I learn something that will help me in my business.

Now I know that not everyone follows everyone who follows them. I follow 1503 people but only have 993 followers.

That’s a lot of people who have basically ignored me, 510 to be exact.

In my opinion it is polite at the very least to follow people back. You could also be missing out on a huge amount of inspiration or knowledge.

I’ve had my say and will leave it at that.

With Grace and Gratitude

Karen

I totally agree with this that is something i do is if someone follows me I always follow back. I find it as a sign of respect and gratitude that if someone is wiling to follow you they must see something they like and i just think it is a good idea to follow back if someone follows you.

My thought exactly. Matthew.

I try to follow who follows me but I must admit that as a total newbie I have adopted the practice of following all of the top ranked I find and trying to concentrate on the lessons. It seems the most beneficial approach educationally. I look forward to a time when I have more knowledge and time to invest back into the community.
JD

I think you have the right approach as a newbie. I did the same.

Exactly Karen,
I do try to check their blogs and comment, when we have a thousand or so of followers it's understandable that we can't check on them everytime they blog or question.
I also have allotted myself 1/2 hr a day on the emails, I really enjoy this time, and sometimes I go over time as it's so easy to immerse oneself in conversations.
I have picked up so much from our members and have pages of tips written down.
Thanks for bringing this subject up.
Cheers Jae ♥

Jae I have had the experience as you. You can’t comment on everything but following back is pretty easy to do.

Yes, I do follow almost everyone who follows me. Sometimes I get a little behind but I do eventually get caught up with everyone.

And, yes. You just never know where or when you might get some fresh insight from someone that could solve a problem or be a great encouragement in times of dificulty.

You can find this in the regular workplace but not to the degree that we find it here in WA. It blows my mind how helpful and encouraging people are here.

All the best and

Moving Forward,
Wayne

Totally agree with you Wayne. You don’t get this kind of support in the workplace. Though you’d have thought by now that the Corporate world would worked out that happy workers usuall means more productivity and profit.

It's my understanding that the purpose of following is to be alerted when the person you follow adds a blog or training or whatever.

I cannot imagine any additional alerts in my day right now. So I follow very few back. Not to be rude but to guard my time. I just don't see the value other than for ranking purposes.

I have no interest in who's following me either. It means nothing in the real world.

I have a similar situation. Trying to desperately triage all the reading in my inbox. I’ve been home recovering from food poisoning, so I’m reading and replying a little more than usual, but it’s a rare luxury.

Moments come when I might have time to undertake a batch follow, but I generally quickly follow those I have direct interactions with.

Yes, you’re right. The folder into which I’ve sorted WA email notifications has quickly filled up! I don’t know that it’s all relevant to my learning or business, but sometime it’s enjoyable to follow when time permits.

Time can be a big issue. I don’t think, however many followers you have or how many you follow back affects rank. That’s all about your activity in the community.
We are all different in our approach but thank you for reading

I agree. I try to leave a hello on their profile and say something nice or engaging about the story they have left there. I admit I may spend a little too much time trying to work through my emails, but I'm getting there.

There's only so much time in the day and I can't get through 50 emails a day and still do my blog stuff, at least not yet.

Take care.

You do a great job, better than me as I don’t always go to their profiles.
Time is precious but just to follow back doesn’t take too long.

Hi Karen, I agree also. We all can learn something from each other. I definitey hope to learn and share my gained knowledge and perspective. Just about to add the nice folk who have replied to this, to my followed list :-) Best to you all. Have a good weekend! Mahesh

I followed one person who commented who I was not following too.

People who replied to your post must be worth following, already made new connections with 6 people! Thanks Karen!

Always! There are a lot who won't reciprocate when I follow them, but I'm usually too busy to think about it. It would take an enormous amount of time to compare my two lists and go around unfollowing those who have ignored me, so I just do what I do and let them do what they do. The way I see it, I'm here to learn, and hopefully contribute in any way that I can. It's impossible to control what other people do, so it's better to just focus on what we can do ourselves.

You are totally right Mark. I don’t worry about it but I do go to see whose following me who I have not followed back yet once a week. So I guess it’s just something I noticed. I never unfollow anyone.

I am followed by 416, and follow all but 1, and am following 497, so all that I follow do not follow me...maybe they don't like horses... :-)

The one that I don't follow drew my suspicion as a scammer with what I deemed improper messaging to other members. I reported this person to Kyle and he acknowledged my communication.

Sometimes I am the first to Follow, sometimes I Follow as a result of being Followed,

You obviously have a keen eye for the spammers... keep looking out for them so it can be eradicated quickly.

I do...a good indication, I think, is one who asks a new member, usually in Chat, to communicate via PM or for an email address. One actually messaged a new member, on her Profile page, one of those Nigerian-type "I am director of bank holding millions of dollars for you" messages. That one really lit me up.

I have learned one lesson here in the past three months and that is, I engage with so many more members when I follow people back who follow me. I also will pick a few each day to follow.

My approach has been different on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ but I am starting to change my opinion on those sites since my experience here has been so much better when I follow many more members.

Rick

Engaging with others both in and outside of WA is the best way to learn and grow your business.
Go out there and follow people on social media who follow you.
