Facebook, Instagram and more - DOWN
Good morning world, you have no social media today. Gasps are heard around the globe. OMG, what do I do? Do I stay home from work? How do I function?
My guess is by now everyone here is aware of the outage. But do we all get what this can do to us going forward? Most of us live and breathe social media in one form or another. I use it primarily for my small online boutique. But having FB and IG down today meant I couldn't do my live show, or post new product. So today my business suffered. Some people use it as an escape from the daily, even if it's just at lunch, and some use it as a way to keep families together. Whatever the reason it effects us all.
So my question to everyone is, what is plan B? If we suddenly lost FB and IG tomorrow for good, what would you do? How do we function? We own nothing on those platforms and they can be gone in a snap.
How would I be able to show the world the amazing dinner I cooked tonight.
I personally found today's FORCED break a nice change. I got a lot of things done because I didn't have the constant interruption from those platforms. Which tells me it might be something I need to do more often, but I also need a Plan B.

I have to admit, that while I don't like people with no morals or ethics, as Zuckerberg has proven over the years, it shows the absolute value that can be had by building out our own websites
I'm sorry that your business was interrupted by this Michelle. but there are plenty of substitute Social Media Sites such as YouTube which lets you go live, to a far more interactive Audience.

Its far more productive, because I don't have the distractions or control that FB has over people and usually I am building out my website or answering enquiries from companies that are headhunting me for WordPress & Copywriting projects
I agree. And I do need to look in to You Tube and the new selling platform for TikTok.
When I heard the news I was more “oh well”, but a lot of people were really rattled by it.
But a Plan B will be in my future, and if it proves more fruitful, it may become my Plan A.
Its a good idea to have a plan B, which is more of a generic solution. years ago I was associated with a very optimistic plan for a social media platform to rival Facebook, planning was good, but the execution didn't work and it was a very touch space to be in, BUT what I did learn from it was that by having a blog of your own, then you can turn it into whatever you want, including your own social media site.You can add forums to blogs as well if you wish

I missed Whatsapp more than Facebook or Instagram, haha! Though, the peace and quiet was great.
Plan B ideas:
* YouTube Channel
* Build your email list
* Post videos and create a membership type area on your website
* Create an app where members and / or groups can communicate (Noom has one which seems to work well - I joined Noom for the weightloss and fitness journey I am on, it's marvellous!)
* Podcast

I haven’t been on Facebook for around a year now, I find it to be such a negative platform but use Instagram regularly to post planners and other designs I have made, I’m not sure I would be overly bothered about losing it. As much as I’d miss the support network I’ve built on there, it’s not a massive part of my life.
I have found that I don’t use my personal page as much as I used to but I cannot have my biz page or group page without it. So somewhat stuck. And I totally agree, I too have a couple of support groups on there that I would miss.

I'm glad I never became a part of any of those platforms! Business as usual today! I think they may have sorted it out by now!
