How important is it to fix these errors? I have thirteen posts showing up in google as having errors such as no author or date modified. When I look at my post list in WordPress the posts are all marked with my name as author and date published etc. Is this a theme problem or do I need to adjust code somewhere? It is not all of my posts showing an error but perhaps all indexed ones.

Hi Maryann

ALL your posts are with errors? Or the latest ones?

What I'm trying to say: Google can't and won't revisit and re-index your site on weekly bases ... Are you sure that those posts with errors have been already crawled by Google?

You should check the last crawling date of your site ... If Google visited your site before you've published those posts, that might be a reason ...

The google crawl dates were all in this month. All of the errors are on the featured images of posts. It is wanting author, publish date etc. Not sure how important it is to fix these errors since they are just featured images.

OK. Crawl dates this month ... But you haven't answered my question ... Crawl dates before you added those featured images or after?

And earlier you were talking about posts, not featured images ...

So I'm a bit confused now ....

Ok. Crawl dates are after. The featured images are what the errors are on. I thought it was posts but I researched further. I could remove the images but that ruins the look of the site. Not sure if it is important enough to change themes. I love mine but they will not fix issue.

OK, so it's not about an old index data ...

Well, I saw all these comments on your theme ... Yes, that could be a reason ... Especially if we are talking about ALL your posts ... You've mentioned 13 posts, but you haven't said if that's the total number of your posts or not ... Anyway, I wouldn't change a theme for a reason like this ...

I have more than 13 posts. So the error isn't on all of them or they are not all indexed yet. which is probably the case.
Thank You for your advice.
maryann

Now I'm really confused ... In your previous message you've said that the crawl dates are after ... Now you are saying that they are not all indexed ... I'm lost Maryann :(

The posts with errors are indexed. Not all of my posts in total are indexed. I think I have the problem solved however.
Thank You for your help
Maryann

all´s well that ends well ... how did you solve the problem?

Hey Maryann,

You can Google search their prompt and read through the many posts offered in the search results as to how to fix this.

When I received all of those error messages, the only thing that FINALLY took them away was to change my theme to an even BETTER theme.

And the theme that caused my website those error messages... yup, it was a paid for theme that cost the same as a much better theme that was not only coded better but also truly optimized.

Hope this helps you.

I was hoping it wasn't the theme. I love my theme so much.
Maryann

See what suggests you get offered. My issue turned out to be the theme. Yours may not. Time will tell.

I noticed it is all regarding featured image. interesting. I have placed a support request to my theme designer team. hopefully they can fix it. Really love my theme.

THAT is an EXCELLENT idea Maryann, and whether they let you know or not, they'll most likely be VERY thankful for your letting them know of this issue.

How important is it to fix these errors? Will they result in less rank?

That I cannot be sure of. All I know is once I saw them on my personal blog, I replaced what was supposed to have been a fully optimized theme with a really optimized theme and all has been fine since.

Personally, I never wait for a drop in rank to fix what I've discovered to be broken.

Have the developers got back to you yet?

Yes, they said it was just a warning. They have no code in place to fix the problem. So I would have to find someone to customize my css. They recommend ignoring.
Not sure I like that answer. Any suggestions on themes? I like the grid masonry style. Looked into Thrive themes but they are still working on 2.0

Did you try Google searching the prompts you are receiving? That may "speak volumes"... just a thought.

Not too long back I marked my images and attachments no index/sitemap on All in one SEO. Apparently some images made it through. Now I have an image ranking in 8th place. Aweso

I also learned something. Thanks

Your settings should be index.

First, check All in One SEO. Click on the All in One SEO and go to file editor. Down near the bottom of your general settings you will see no index settings. You do not want any ticks here, as you want your content - pages, and posts to be indexed.

Second: You can link an image to your content by clicking on the image, then click edit. This will take you to the image details. You can there link the image to media files or a page etc

Thanks Brad, I learned something new today!

Ok, but the image was originally linked to a post. Now Google search results just bring you to a page with the picture not the full article. Is there any way to get this changed?

Did you put your posts custom URL in the display settings link to?. Then update the image details then update WordPress

This is an image I just linked to a post. I put my posts' custom URL and it directs me to my post what is black opal.

Oh ok. I get what you are saying now. Thank you, that just took me a minute to comprehend. Must be the end of the day.
Maryann

No problems I hope this helps. You have to change the link to from media to custom URL to link to one of your pages or posts.

How can you do this with a featured image? It does not bring up the same screen as images you add in content.

It depends on your theme. If it is free then you would probably have to insert code. But if you are not familiar with code then I wouldn't muck around with it.
You can have a look at this link for more details https://firstsiteguide.com/wordpress-featured-image/
OR if you like send me a PM with the URL with the image in it and I will see what I can suggest for you.
And what theme you are using?

I just got to pop out to the shops for a while. It's 11.00 am here in Sydney and I have to do a few chores.

Thank you Brad. I'm going to try this now. Best wishes!

I am using the Sun theme by ostein from Envato Market

I have taken a snip. Is this the theme, Support for Sun - Grid News Blog with Affiliate links theme for WordPress?

If so I would lodge a support ticket to Ostelin. I can't log in but you can. You paid for the theme so you should and will get support. Submit a support ticket for how to link feature images to posts/pages etc.

Ok I will do that. Thank You

Your Welcome

Looking at the details of my website health some of my pages do way better in terms of mobile and desktop speed scores. Any idea why?

Thank You both for your help. Now I have all my pages showing speeds between 95 and 98 on both mobile and pc.

I immediately thought of image reduction!

Image reduction? So use small pics in my posts?

That can contribure to loss of the drain!

This is due to multiple factors, but I would say images is the main culprit.

Some functions that look cool can be fatal to your website speed like Sliders and animation of big images.

It can depend also on the theme you're using.

Desktop and mobile pages can be displayed very differently, it's better to have a theme where you can control exactly what you will see on a computer and a mobile and make the changes if necessary. A lot of themes say they're responsive, however, if you can't make any modifications is useless.

You have tools on the internet that will analyze your page and will tell you exactly what is the problem with your page.

Google has such a tool, it's call Page Speed Insight, another one is pingdom.com.

Good luck.

Thank You. I don't have any sliders yet. Some pages have more pics than others I will look into pingdom.

Ok, Cant afford pingdom at the moment. Do you have any recommendations on what to look for in a theme?

Hey Maryann,

A fully optimized theme that optimizes your images AND reduces the need for several plugins.

Send me a private message and I will gladly provide you with a URL for you to read over all of the advantages of my suggestion.

How hard would it be to rebrand my site. I only have 5 articles up. Am willing to re do all of them if necessary. Want to go from fantasy folk lore to fantasy lore in entertain

Hey Maryann,

Changing the content on your website will not hurt your credibility if that is what you are wondering. With only 5 articles so far, am guessing your site is still well under a year old... making it even easier to switch from folk to lore.

One of my websites is just over a year old and I am seriously contemplating exporting the best content to my business site and using the site for "earning money" instead the present lead generators and business ideas.

Hope this helps you.

This helps a lot. I have had my site for less than a month. It is definitely complicated to decide on niche and best approach to a site. Thank you. I hope your change goes well.

Thank you Maryann, glad this helped you. Looking forward to reading your future success blogs here at WA.

Are you wanting to redo your site's name as well? By that I mean your domain name...if so, you'll probably have to create a new domain name. If not, then modifying your content will not be difficult. In fact, doing so will get the crawlers' attention because they will see it as updated content. You can certainly revise the whole focus of your site right out the gate by identifying in your site titles the "fantasy lore in entertainment" direction. Just rewrite your posts to that point and you will be just fine!

Thank you. I was thinking of dropping the fantasy portion since all fiction if technically fantasy. I want to explore the lore of various works of entertainment. I will probably keep the name since it is still regarding lore and the name is easily brandable.

Can I make a static home page with posts on a second page or is that going to greatly affect my seo and rankings?

Hey Maryann,

What you are referring to is known as a blog roll. As far as whether to use a static page or a blog roll your home page, you will soon discover everyone has their own opinion.

See screen print below to access blog roll or static page tutorials...

Google searching "Should You Use a Static Page or Blog Roll" (without the quotation marks, of course) will give you a wide range of posts with opinions.

Hope this helps you.

I don't believe it will affect your rankings. Personally, I have my posts organized into categories and list the categories on a top menu. The categories drop down with the corresponding posts listed to make navigation easy. I added a menu on the right with a search function and recent posts so that my content will be present and searchable anywhere on my site. I hope this helps!

That helps a lot thank you

I'm not sure the answer to your question. I have my blog on my homepage.
