Everybody Knows When You're Faking it on the Internet

First thing is first- it doesn't take an expert to know when you're faking online fame with money, whether it's a comment, shares, likes ,etc on facebook, or how many followers you have on Twitter... The truth is always revealed at the end of the day by anybody that wants to find it, so if you want to keep an authentic look, is to first be authentic.

Of course, everybody wants to look like they're popular, or an expert in your field, but you have to actually make that happen in reality first for it to happen at all. Faking it only turns away potential fans and clients.

Here are Some ways to Stay Authentic Online and Build an Online Presence:

1. Post lots of pictures and videos, no matter what platform you're on!

People love random pictures, sometimes they like things that they don't even know they're liking, especially pictures.... especially flashy pictures, then Facebook shows that picture to their friends, so keep up the photography!

2. Remember the 80/20 Rule:

you should never spam anyone. Lots of people would even say this is the 95/5 rule. Either way you do it, it basically means 80 percent of your posts are engaging or helpful with the people. Like this article, or a picture of a new city you're touring in. People love things about your real life(trips, food, friends, hobbies), as well as posts that make them think (politics, opinions, etc.), so make sure you're benefiting your followers, friends, etc, in some way as you post. the other 20 percent is all about promotion- go ahead and post that Soundcloud link, or whatever you are selling. Just remember not to overdo it.

3. If you Still Need to Utilize Money in Your Social Media Campaigns, Buy Ads, not Fake Friends

This is the one thing I never really understand about this whole thing. instead of buying likes or followers from some sketchy third party site, why not give that money to Facebook or Twitter themselves for real advertisement. If you haven't been online lately- They're ads are everywhere- they're target -specific, down to interests and location, so you get more bang for your buck. You actually have a fair chance in gaining new real fans or clients this way.

At the end of the day, buying fake fame really does nothing beneficial to your business, in whatever you're doing. It's just a front, like having fake Louis Vuitton. Be a REAL leader in your field and go find fans yourself!

Till next time,

This is so true. i can spot the fakes and I really don't like them. If you give quality you get it back - that's what I try to do.

So true. I wouldnt like comments like that on my posts. This kind of comments just makes others think that the person is paying someone to comment on it.

Yup, comments are content. Gotta keep them relevant just like our posts otherwise Google will not like it that's for sure. That's how you can keep your rankings too, with comments!

I got once comment like that on my website. Don't know if it was left by someone from here at WA or not.. I visited his website and after it seemed okay, I didn't cancel the comment but edited it a way to add something directly from my article and I also replied to it. What do you think, was that bad thing to do? After all he got back link and I got comment...

I would just delete it

I agree. You need to talk about what is in the post itself.

thanks for letting us know!

How can we determine whether it's a spam or not? I mean for the second bit when you mentioned the 3 paragraphs comment. Hehe

Hmm...that's a lot to think about Matt. Can you elaborate on how you found this out?
Bren

kyle has mentioned it as well as jay, I've just always deleted comments like that and it seems to pan out better for me anyways
