Hi! I'm a retired Christian educator, having served six protestant congregations (5 Baptist and 1 Methodist) in GA, SC, and VA. I'm now a part-time dealer trade driver for Stokes Honda North in North Charleston, SC, and an affiliate marketer with Wealthy Affiliate!

I need to stay busy, supplement our family income, and enjoy the freedom that a part time, online business provides. I am thoroughly enjoying the Wealthy Affiliate online business experience and community. The training is superb and the supportive online community is fantastic!

I have played the guitar for most of my life and have chosen this as my niche. The name of my site is Guitar Help 4U! The purpose of the site is to help beginner and intermediate guitar players become better guitarists by providing them helpful resources. My theme is "Helping You Become a Better Guitarist!"

I look forward to connecting with you at Wealthy Affiliate as we learn from one another!

Thanks for your kind words, Dmitriy! I wish the same for you as well!

My wife and I got hooked on Pokemon Go after learning about it from our daughter. I enjoy some golf, baseball, and football game apps on my iPhone.

Keep up the good work at WA!

Hey Marty thank you for the follow and your past recent work with our younger generation that you were doing. I noticed that you haven't been a member very long and your ranking is really good. I have officially been a member for one week tomorrow, so what is the biggest tip that you could recommend to a "newbie" like myself?

You're welcome Travis! Here are some suggestions that will help:

1. Glad you have Premium. That gives you all the tools.
2. Follow the Certification process step-by-step. Be patient with the process. Don't move ahead of the training. It is developed to help you when you need it.
3. Welcome new members by commenting on their goals.
4. Welcome new Premium members often.
5. Check out my post at . This is a list of the things Yoast SEO expects your posts to make them effective. This list will be invaluable to you!
6. Spend time in the Feedback area often. Give other WA members feedback on their sites. And ask for feedback for your site. Even asking for help counts towards rankings because engagement in all areas of WA is the key.
7. Ask questions in Live Chat. It will take a while before you will be able to help others in Live Chat, but that's ok.
8. If you are stuck, don't hesitate to ask questions. That's what the WA community expects!
9. Spend time in the Comments section, making comments of the website pages of others.
10. Make it a daily habit to respond to WA members every day!
11. Write quality content for the posts and pages on your site. Google likes new, original content.
12. Add no less than one new post to your site every week. More is better. You can only make one post per day during your first three months. And you cannot provide any formal training content until after three months.
13. Contact support when you have technical issues.
14. Build your follow list. I follow persons from the Activity Dashboard and make sure I respond back to them when they respond to me.
15. Finally, don't expect to make money very soon. It takes 4-6 months for learning and getting Google to fully recognize your site. So, be content at first with the training value you are receiving for the low cost! I would do this regardless of the financial benefit! I've learned a ton.

Hope some of this helps you, Travis! Best wishes!

Hi Marty, I noticed that you asked a question on Live Chat about menus which was not answered.
Have you made a custom menu? And is your home page a blog roll or a static front page?
Please let me know and I will see if I can help, altho it will probably be tomorrow now because its 12.30am with me, and bedtime!!
Reply
martycanaday Premium
I don't think my menu is a custom menu, but I have a lot of custom link sub-pages. My home page is a blogroll--that is, all of my posts show on my home page. Thanks for helping. I'm waiting on the WA support team but haven't heard from them. I don't know when WA saves website content each day. I'm afraid they will save my incomplete site.

Marty, please make sure that you save your website yourself, in as many ways as you can.
If you click on "Export" on your WP dashboard, you can save it there.
I also use the WPClone plugin regularly.
Also I think there is a way to save it to Dropbox if you have it.
And you can also copy and paste each of your posts into Word on your computer.
Then you can be sure that you will never lose any of your content!
All the best
Chrissie :)

Thanks! I have all of my posts. I lost 9 of 13 of the menu items on my home page. As an example, I had one menu on the homepage named Books and Tabs fir Sale. When you hover over that more menus show up. One was Songbooks. When you hover over Songbooks about 15 different linked menus of varios genres appear, such as Country Music Songbooks, Rock Music Songbooks, etc. These are not pages, but sub-links.

The Books and Tabs for Sale is gone, and all of the sub-pages and sub-links. They no longer show up on my home page or under the Menus section in my backoffice.

Someone asked me a question yesterday in Live Chat. I promised that I would get back to them after I completed a tad of research. I went back today to find their question in Live Chat, but my Live Chat history only goes back 3 hours. Is there any way I can get back to yesterday's Live Chat posts?

That's a good question, Marty. I don't know the answer but I suspect, since it is live chat and people are on 24-7, it would be difficult to track down. I am not aware of any way to go back into your personal history any further either. Sorry I couldn't help.

You might want to post your question in the getting started classroom. Maybe Kyle or someone with far more knowledge than I can provide better insight.

Anyway, thanks for following me back, Marty. I look forward to seeing your progress here at WA as well as out in the affiliate marketing world.

Best wishes for your success.

Hmm, can we not use the @ tag with their name if we take a note of it for later? I would save the answer also for the next question like that.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

You hit the nail on the head! I'm struggling to find a niche. I'm thinking about "Learning to Play Guitar" as a niche, but since I don't know how a website is set up or used, I'm not sure. For example, I'm mostly interested in helping people find resources that will aid them in improving as guitarists regardless of their level of play. Purchasing a quality instrument is a must. So what are your thoughts on learning to improve as a guitarist, learning to play (beginner), and pointing guitarists to site that sell guitars--Amazon, Guitar Center, local guitar shops, etc.?
Reply
martycanaday Premium
Additional info . . . I've played guitar most of my life and am an intermediate level player. I'm not interested in teaching people how to learn to play the guitar myself, nor am I interested in posting videos of me playing.

I finally decided on a niche and am working on my website. Thanks for your support!

Your guitar niche sounds perfect Marty and those affiliate programs will work out just great. You can use your blog to talk about anything and definitely doesn't need to teach others how to play. If there's anything else you need a hand with, just let me know!

Hi and welcome to WA Marty! I'm Peter and I actually referred you here to WA through my website and thought I'd introduce myself while offering you my help and assistance.

I'm glad to see you've taken the first step to a very profitable and lucrative business. This site has helped me do so much that I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.. From being able to work on my own time to growing my income month after month, WA has been the way to go!

I hope you're enjoying the community so far and are ready to learn all that there is about affiliate marketing. I'd recommend with the getting started course, which is the big green button on your upper left, or you can feel free to use the link below: The training is going to walk you through step-by-step on how to begin setting up your new website and turn that into a full-time business. You'll have everything you need here to make that happen.

I know you're going to do great here and I can't wait to see how you progress with your new business. If you have any questions or need any help at all, feel free to ask away. Let's start the year strong!

Cheers,
Peter
