SAC Update: First Time Doing This And What I've Learned Since 2012
Hey there!
I did something new today that I wanted to share with you. I'm still really nervous because its the first time I've done this.
Do you know the episode of Flinstones where Fred is waiting for Wilma to give birth and he walks back and forth so much that he wears down the spot so much that there's a hole there?
That's me right now. Well...not exactly now but once I finished this little venture of mine.
So what did I do?
I went LIVE on YouTube and IG! I've been wanting to do it for so long but I was too nervous.
This is my YouTube Channel and this is my IG if you're interested. I've been told its benefitial to share during SAC so I'll go ahead and do that.
BUT ironically, what was the topic I was discussing?
How To Not Be Camera Shy! Haha!
In the video I discuss 5 things that will help with being shy on camera because I had to go through the same thing in 2012 when I started creating YouTube videos. It was a video of my hubby making egg drop soup.
And let me tell you, it was terrible quality but people actually watched it. From then until now I learned a lot about:
- NOT being perfect
- Creating a better self-image
- Being more postivie and confident
- Taking notes and taking action
- and more!
You'll have to watch the video if you want to see all of my tips because that's not really what this post is about. But at the same time, here I am going through the same emotions and process to go LIVE!
Its a totally different experience being live compared to not. You can edit out messing up or rerecord stuff that didn't go right.
I'm sharing with you that I was nervous as heck to be Live. I looked in the freaking background AFTER the video started and saw my daughter's mess. On top of that her video was playing louder than I thought it was. And depsite it all I had to go on with the video.
Its not perfect and it probably won't get a lot of views. But what I hope is that it helps those who have asked me about this topic and others who are struggling with getting infront of the camera.
Because getting in the front of the camera is hard. I still to this day HATE hearing myself but I still create videos.
Theres always going to be plenty to nitpick about. You just have to move on.
Analyze without putting yourself down. Compare with the frame of mind if this will or will not be a good fit for your brand.
Don't compare yourself to someone else and say 'I'll never get there' because you will do EXACTLY what you say you'll do.
So to calm my nerves down me and my daughter went for a drive instead of binge eating my nerves down. Yes, I am also an emotional eater but am learning to find alternative ways to handle them.
I've created a video and publishing schedule for my site Best Way To Make (A) Money Online. I'm still working on the homepage and its a bit of a mess since I changed themes.
Yes, I know, shame on me.
But I'm also starting to see my sight getting organic traffic. Very little but its something and I'm super excited about it!
I'll be getting the homepage straightened out this week. I have been working on the look and feel a lot in these passed weeks so I haven't wrote as much as I'd like to but I've wrote every week so far. Also been creating videos.
So I hope that you are also doing well in your SAC journey. I'm looking forward to getting more done this month. More content creation and not so much fussing over the theme.
I went and bought a package of themes because I was tired of fussing with free ones that didn't give me all that I wanted. And it came with a good variety of different themes.
Aside from my site, I've also had some people ask me to manage their sites for them. Right when I said I was going to focus on this. And all before now I haven't had anything.
It never rains unless it pours I guess but I'm just taking things in stride. Also, if you watch the video you see my daughter going on about bath bombs.
That's something else I'm working on with her that I'll maybe talk about later.
I think that is all I have to ramble on about today. Hope you all are doing well with your SAC goals as well.
Take care,
Marlinda

Hey Marlinda,
Nice! Congratulations on your completion of SAC month 1.
I haven't done YouTube or Instagram yet... I admire your courage and you certainly inspire me to do this soon.
Keep up the good work.

Fantastic to get over our roadblocks that stop us from success, Marlinda. Congrats on your You Tube and IG LIVE! Big Step!
Thanks Marlinda, for sharing this. It helps. I know many people have issues with camera shy and moreso with a live recording. People find it hard to deal with little imperfections and errors that may happen, which oftentimes are not even noticed by the audience. I have not done any live recording or a video myself but I will be doing so as I make good progress in my online business. I also used to have problems standing before an audience to make a presentation. However, one thing that helps me to overcome nervousness at such times is to ascertain to myself that some people will be helped by what I am about to present. This empowers me to focus on being a help rather than being a victim.
Wishing you more successes in your online business. Cheers to your cute and smart daughter who did the video with you.
Hey Debbie!
Thanks for sharing these tips. If you don't mind, could you comment this under my video as I think it will add value to the video.
I agree that it helps to think of how much you are helping someone. I should write a pre-post on here for my helpful videos because you and others have some awesome ideas to add that I hadn't thought about.
I like how you empower yourself instead of being the victim. Yes, mindset is so important as well.
Thanks and hope you continue to grow in your business as well :)
I think my daughter is becoming my biz partner now, LOL. She could be sleeping and as soon as I start recording you can be sure those feet come speeding my way.
Its hilarious cuz she'll get on her cash register and say 'mama, hold on, I'm getting my work done on my computer. Just hold on a minute.' or something like that.
Thanks for watching and hope you have a good day,
Marlinda
Wow, Marlinda - that's awesome.
The fear of being in front of a camera is what's put me off creating videos too.
I managed to overcome it a couple of years ago to create a video course that, to this day, makes me $40/month without me doing anything but that fear (and lack of time) has prevented me making more.
I'll watch your video with interest when I get a moment later today.
Hey Phil,
That's awesome! You also bring up a good point that I hadn't thought about either.
The fears will creep back up again. Or if you stop then try to start again you might have to overcome them again.
Yes, I know the feeling. What is your online course about? Could you PM me the link to it. I'm interested in seeing it if you don't mind.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! Your support means a lot to me as well :)
Marlinda
Marlinda, you are so brave! I am impressed. I have yet to make that big move myself.
Wondering what is going to be in next week's challenge list...
Hey Fran!
Yes, I'm also interested to see what the next challenge list is going to be about. Thanks for your support and keep up the good work as well. :)
Thanks for your comment and support. It means a lot to me,
Marlinda
Marlinda,
I will be watching your YouTube, and comment on there also. One thing to be sure authenticity not being perfect is so very important.
I remember the first time I was in a video marketing an MLM program. We did so many takes. LOL! Then someone said just be natural, and that's the take we used! Crazy how those things work out.
When I see videos that look like it had a major producer it turns me off, others will feel that they can't do them.
I am still working on learning affiliate marketing and Wordpress, but I will catch up very soon with more content, yet I also want to get into Videos.
This month I had a health issue and then an offer to do marketing online and standard local marketing which is great, but that put me behind for the SAC, but I have now scheduled this into my day, so I am getting back in sync.
Thanks for your post.
Bill
Hey Bill!
Yeah, exactly. It is crazy how that works. People want to see you for who you are and those are the videos that get the most views.
And you build a relationship with your viewers that way also so you don't need a huge audience to build a sustainable business.
I hope that you are doing better after that health issue. It can take a while to get back to 100% so make sure that you continue to take care of yourself.
Sometimes things come up and it just takes a little longer to get to our goals. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
There's always lots to learn!
Keep up the good work. You're doing great!
Marlinda
Hi Marlinda,
Thank you for your honesty. I, too, had many challenges which have made me not to complete tasks on SAC. Thank you for sharing.
Joseph.
Hey Joseph! Thanks for sharing. Lets take one challenge at a time and continue to grow as we go through SAC :)
Thanks for reading and commenting,
Marlinda
