Best writing tip I've had so far
I stumbled across an article online, and it gave a great tip about writing believeable and readable content.
The writer said they started every marketing email or blog post with
"Hi Philip"
Philip was this guys brother-in-law, and he wrote the blog or email like he was typing an email directly to him about the interest he had, but by starting with "Hi Philip" it put his mindset like he was typing to him, which then made his email read more like a conversation.
His brother-in-law Philip allededly commented about the email saying it was like he was typing to him personally, the fact that Philip hadn't mentioned this particular topic in conversation with the writer was the only reason he knew it was a marketing email.
I've tried this and it seems to have an effect. I even tried it with this blog post! Ha. I've found myself deleting a sentence thinking "I wouldn't type like that to Philip" or whoever.
Write like you're typing to just one person is the moral I guess.
Anyway, I can't take credit for this tip, but I thought it was too good not to share with you.
Happy writing and don't forget to delete "Hi Philip" when you're done or that'll be just weird.

I hope so Shirley. (I always think of the movie Airplane when I hear your name.
Not over there, surely?
Yes, over there, and don't call me Shirley. :-)
The first thing I do when addressing members here is to dig into their profiles and find names!
Thank you Steve.
Just kidding, Michael, I do that too. Easy to assume from the username and often it's different.
Hi Mark
Thank you for sharing this!
Anytime we "humanize" an online experience the more authentic the experience becomes. In the world of affiliate marketing, this more easily translates into $$$.
Susan
Yes, typing to one person makes it feel less daunting and more personal.
Colette and Philip lol
Thanks for sharing the tip, I can see how it would work and I am going to give it a try.

You're welcome Mary, will add some familiarity to the post perhaps?
Always worth trying new things :-)

Interesting idea.

Maybe not for the established writers, but works for me :-)
