To Sell Or Not To Sell? - Day 8
30 Days To Crush Email Marketing!
Day 8
To Sell or Not To Sell?
Hello people, I hope you have had an enjoyable weekend...I am writing this post really late today as I have been out with my kids for the day.
Welcome to Day 8 of my 30 Day Email Marketing Challenge...and the topic I want to talk about today is quite a contentious and awkward one...
Do you think it's right to start selling to your email list immediately???
There are some experienced marketers who will tell you that it is a mistake to start selling to your subscribers to fast as you need to create that relationship first and wow your readers with lots of free content before you can consider asking them to buy something.
Others will tell you that it is one of the biggest mistakes not to start making offers to your readers from day one!
So who is right and who is wrong?
To be honest, neither of them are...because each list is different, each audience is different, each niche is different and each business owner is different.
I have always fallen into the wait camp...but I can also see the necessity to get your subscribers used to buying from you as soon as possible.
Yes, you certainly have to build that trust and establish your expertise but you also want to install the behaviour in your subscribers of opening their wallet to buy from you :)
Just because I don't do it immediately ..there is nothing wrong with making an immediate offer and asking for the sale from a new subscriber. But in order to do so you need to make sure it’s an offer that’s low in price and of fantastic value to your reader!
It would definitely help if it was a “no-brainer” of an offer. I'd recommend something that’s closely related to your opt-in offer.
What ever approach you take..the next vitally important thing to do is get into the habit of making offers regularly. Mix your content with an offer. You can share a tip and mention that a particular tool or info product may be helpful. Answer questions and link to products and services you have used. Write a review of your favourite application or software.
Will your readers reject and resent being sold to in your emails?
Do it wrong....and they most certainly will.
This is something that every marketer has to gauge for themselves...always remember that you’re there to provide value to your readers and this value will include finding or creating the tools and products that they need. Going out and finding a great deal for something they need can be of great value to them. Do this right and it will result in them looking forward to the offers you will be emailing to them.
My number one piece of advice is don’t ever feel bad about selling! If you do, more often than not it will come across in your emails and trust me when I tell you that your customers will resent you for it.
Always take good care of your readers. Don’t promote any old rubbish. Try and get into the habit of vetting the products yourself before promoting them to your list. Ensure they're a good fit and something that your readers genuinely need. And all of this comes with...you know what I'm going to say....yes practice!
If you have any doubts about a product...don't mess around...skip it!
I think that is enough for one night...I hope you have found this post of value.
As always, I welcome your comments and feedback below.
Do you need a content strategy for your marketing campaign?...join me tomorrow and find out.
I'll leave you with today's thought...albeit a night thought :)
Have a fantastic Sunday Evening!

Hi Debbie, as long as you keep finding them of value..I will keep posting them :) Thanks for your continued support.
Great tips Anthony. I been working for this since joining WA two and a half months ago, a lot of trials and error and just satisfied with my Opt-in landing pages for 2 websites. My AR used double opt-in, which means that I have 2 sale opportunities before the visitors become a real subscribers. .
At the moment I use the “bonus” funnel instead of “sales.”
1. When they subscribed they will be lead to the welcome page to download a simple eBook on online marketing business
2. When they click the confirmation email sent by my AR, they will be lead to a thank you page for another bonus gift.
3. Only then the email series begin, first welcome email remind them to get the bonuses.
Shall channel all promotion effort to this pages from now on.
Hi SK, it sounds as though you have been working very hard on your email workflow. That's a very clever tactic to provide the eBook giveaway before your member confirms there subscription intention in the second optin email email generated by your AR. I bet that secures you a near 100% signup success rate. Some AR's insist on the Double opt in...but even for the ones that don't...I would always recommend using it as it keeps the integrity of your list beyond reproach of any spam claims and protects your reputation. Keep in touch as I would love to hear about your future progress. I wish you a great week ahead.
Great post :0) - especially after a long day out with the kids.
Have a great week ahead
Cheers

Thanks Rod, they ran me ragged lol. I wish you a productive, successful and safe week ahead.
Awesome piece. You can't go wrong with great value. I have marketers I buy from without thinking twice. Why? Because they have used value to build trust, among other things.
Good evening Rebecca, thanks for your support. You can drop me an email anytime in the future if you need any help when you start on your own email list. Have a fantastic evening.
A great post. Reminds me of coming out of a spring loaded corner in an old fashioned pinball game!
Cheers Mike, oh I used to love pinball tables...it's been years since I've even set eyes on one.
Thanks for this useful post. Just gave me some good ideas. Im thinking the same way as you do about selling.
Hi Dominic, glad you have found it useful. So you are a "wait for a while" kind of guy...sell once you have built that trusting relationship?
