Automation and Robotics

I read a piece recently that says that by the year 2026 there will be mass job losses in the UK due to "Automation and Robotics". The figure mentioned was in the region of nine million jobs lost to this phenomenon. You can bet your life that if this figure were to be anywhere near accurate then it means the number replicated throughout the world could be absolutely immense.

You only have to look at documentaries about companies like Amazon, who seem to have very few workers in relation to the amount of stock they handle in their immense warehouses, to see that computers and robots are going to become more and more ubiquitous to everyday life let alone industry and commerce.

Now, any government that faces the prospect of its citizens facing job losses on that sort of scale would find itself in big trouble, but, like any set of industries that's faced modernisation in the past, I'm sure that there'll be plenty of new opportunities to fill the void.

But what sort of opportunities though? Well the answer might well be within the problem itself, namely, within the computer industry. And by that I don't mean learning how to build a robot or computer.......heck no there are companies that can do that for us and we can just buy them because they are getting cheaper as time goes by.

What I do mean though is learning all about being a part of the process of electronic commerce and that means by learning how to build websites and how to create content and then monetise them through the various means available.

Guess what that leads to........there will be millions of people who have lost their own jobs to "Automisation and Robotics" who will need to find out new opportunities for themselves and this is where we can come in over the coming years.

We learn how to create, build and monetise our own sites right here at Wealthy Affiliate and then offer the opportunity to all those people who may be faced with the prospect of losing their own livelyhood in the years to come by inviting them to join us.

What better incentive is there for us to make the absolute most we can of this opportunity for ourselves than to offer it to as many people as we can in order to help them take control over their own lives and not be left facing the prospect of unemployment in the future.

Build your site, fill it with content, keep filling it with content, spread your message......and they will come!

Have a great weekend everybody.

Mark

This post was written a few years back and its title caught my attention. My take is that as we lose jobs to automation, robotics and all that, new jobs will emerge.

The world of programming will be with us for a great while. New computer systems are being built and invented. Go to google or youtube and search Quantum computing and other topics involving quantum technology. It is qoing to be a big industry.

Joe

Hi there Joe and thanks for reminding me about this post and your comments regarding it.
I'll check out quantum technology as well but what a timely reminder of the situation we're all in now with the worldwide shutdown due to C-19 and the incredible number of job and business losses that are going with it.
I may blog about it and link back.....lolssss
Cheers Joe

Most definitely Mark! I heard that money is attracted to great ideas! So it does not always start with money. It all could start from great ideas and great ideas are all over the place.

Another great technology is 'artificial intelligence'. I am fascinated with this technology as well.

Sail on my friend!

Joe

Oh yes, of course, and that seems to have come to the fore very much these last couple of years.

AI and Robotics......where the heck is it all going???

Mark

Experts are starting to worry about AI and robots merging. These new breed of AI are now teaching themselves how to program. And I have heard of new AI-created programs that work but humans do not understand. Now, that should be cause for concern! Elon Musk has very strong reservations about AI although he seems to continue using them in his new products and inventions.

Where we might be going with these new tech is a big question mark.

Joe

I just took a look at some comments from this thread Joe and noticed this that I wrote at the time.....

"You're not wrong Nemira but it won't be too long before Artificial Intelligence becomes a reality and compubots will have the potential to think and act for themselves.
I'm not suggesting that robots will "take over the world" as such, merely that compubots definitely have the potential to decimate certain job types and make others completely obsolete."

I didn't realise that I was talking about this back then!

Mark

You were on to something back then Mark!

Joe

lolssss....should've invested in it somewhere!!
Cheers Joe :-)

It is good that robots do not have imagination and creativity as humans do. Nobody will replace human beings till they use their brains for thinking, not just following patterns and crowd.

Yes, I believe that too, automation and robotics will replace jobs. And I believe the jobs our children and grandchildren will be doing don't exist yet. The world is changing. Thanks for sharing :-)

Youre welcome Gaylene and that's a great point, can you imagine companies advertising for Social Media Managers or SEO Executives a decade or so ago? People would wonder what the heck they were talking about!!
Mark

Yes, it sounds exciting :-)

Speaking of Robots...

Remind me never to mess with your woggle Jimbo ;-)

This seems the way we are heading, Mark.

I think so Jeff.

We'll see a lot more of that in the US Elon Musk market to come Mark!

Too true Michael and by the way, I'm liking the stuff that Musk is doing at the moment in solar......those roof tiles look great and I'm sure they will be at the forefront of building technology going forward.

Good to see you Mark, I spend way too much time pondering what the future holds in store the biggest issue we face is adaptation, to a rapidly changing environment.
Technology is an iceberg, many don't see the implications, the age of the machine is not to far away. It may be the one thing that makes human civilisation sustainable.
We are in the driver's seat so to speak, the WA platform offers us an excellent opportunity not only to adapt but also help others to adapt as well. A food for thought post thank you.

As you say Alexander, adaptation will be the watchword going forward and those that adapt and exploit new technology and the opportunities it offers will be those best placed to mitigate the difficulties that lay ahead.
Most of us can't build these new hard or softwares but by being a part of WA and encouraging others to join us, we will be amongst the ones immune from the downside of "progress"
Cheers Alexander

It will turn into a horse verse car battle and then when Henry Ford arrived on the scene the whole world changed never to be the same again. this is the kind of sea change we are in for. the numbers of replacements are astronomical. There is a computer called Amelia she has passed the Turing test whereby a human can not detect whether or not they are communicating with a machine or another human. we are in for some very interesting times as artificial intelligence becomes mainstream.
That is so well said we are well placed to help folks out with the brand of knowledge that we are acquiring here at WA.

Didn't know about Amelia Alexander, that's how things look to be going and by the way, have you seen the TV series Westworld yet?
I know it's humans playing robots but how long before the robots get to grips with AI?
Scientists and engineers are able to create the most amazing things these days and they're never going to be satisfied.....the boundaries will just keep on being pushed!
Mark

Great advice Mark :)

Cheers Jude.......and nice to see you're still with us!
