Google: Not Critical to Have Keywords in Title
According a recent Google Webmaster hangout, titles are not as important as the actual content of the page.
From what I understand, they say that
- Even if a page is missing a title tag, they will still rank that page as long as it has good content.
- Whereas if you were to have a title tag but no content, that wouldn't get ranked.
- A title tag can make a bit of difference, but not as much as the content.
- They try to spot keyword stuffing in titles if it's done in a way that gives a bad user experience.

From what I got out of that video was the title tag is not as important as we were led to believe and it should give more of a short description of the article am I right in thinking that ?all the best Max
Thanks for that info Marcus.
Too bad Google can't make up their da** mind. Constantly moving the goal posts and changing the "rules" anytime they feel like. Very discouraging....
I think titles are still important to your actual traffic. People searching for content are going to base much of their decision about which sites to click on the title they see in the search results. So, while it might now be too important for SEO, It is still important for your actual traffic.
Make sense?
