Hi Maggie. Most of us have had this same issue, until we found ways to make it easier. Helen Doyle directed me to the Activity Dashboard
(On profile page) where you can skim thru all the notifications and messages, and just answer the ones you are interested in.
Hope this helps. Jan
Yep. Scheduling is important, but scanning posts really helps me save time. You do have to pick and choose, or you will spend most of your time looking at your messages.
Hope this helps.

Maggie I understand completely. I was overwhelmed with the messages at first. I decided to set a schedule. I also ignore many of the emails that are simply likes...
I go through in a pattern I answer the questions, then I reply to blogs, then I thank my followers. These are the ones I find most important.
You are not slow, Maggie :-) You will find as you move up in rank there are even MORE messages. You will not be able to answer them all. Pick and choose what interests you and then move on to doing what is most important to you. Have a great week!
You need to allow yourself a set amount of time for dealing with those - I have 5,000+ followers and I know how time consuming it can be!
What sort of messages are taking so much time to answer? Are these messages coming in to your website or are they here at WA?
There's a big difference between a message and a notification. Are you responding only to messages or are you perhaps trying to respond to notifications?
I answer all Private Messages and most of the questions directed to me on discussion threads. (In many cases, other members have already answered the question before I see it. I'll sometimes respond if I think that I can contribute to the discussion.)
Notifications that someone has posted a new blog or has liked a comment of mine don't usually need to be responded to at all.

Always focus on the lessons first. You are here to learn and do the lessons necessary. WA has a lot of features and a fun community to chat with yes but your main focus here is to learn. Remember that. ;)
