One Month In - Don't Make Money Your Only Source of Motivation

Yesterday marked my one month anniversary here at WA. Did it ever fly by, I don't think I have had this full of a schedule of "to-do's" since...ever? Haha.

Usually I put in 6-ish hours a day into my site and all the other tasks involved with it (training, reading blogs, keyword research, social media, etc). Between this, mothering and attempting to keep my home in order, it can get overwhelming at times. I manage to publish roughly 5 posts a week, which I think is reasonable progress and I've published 18 so far. I hit my pillow with a feeling of exhaustion laced with satisfaction.

I haven't made any money, YET.

This isn't discouraging me though, because there are so many more reasons that I am so grateful to have found this community. My one piece of advice today is if you decide to commit yourself to this, make sure that money isn't the only thing motivating you. From what I've researched, chances are you won't see much of it at first.

Make sure you actually care about what you are writing about. This might sound gushy, but make sure that your heart is involved. That is something that your readers will be able to discern right away, and if they can see that you care, they will too. Your website is truly a reflection of you, so make it something that you are proud to call your own.

Now, for the people who do care, here are five more reasons for you that will hopefully help to spur you forward:

1. You have the freedom to learn, think, and write about whatever you want, and best of all you have the tools available to share your findings with the world.

2. Your website is your medium to connect with other people who share your values and interests. This is amazing. You have the potential to find some phenomenal people out there.

3. You are creating. This is one of the most fulfilling and gratifying experiences of living. When you create you connect with something larger than yourself, honour this.

4. You are building a new skill and improving yourself. For me, this was a pretty steep learning curve to process, but so far, I'm still alive and thriving. Learning, and stretching past your comfort zone is what keeps you sharp and full of vitality, never stop learning.

5. This journey will reveal your character. If pay attention to yourself, the challenges and opportunities presented to you during this voyage will test your resourcefulness, persistence, brainpower, work ethic, and a myriad of other qualities about you that are required to succeed.

So remember, money is just a part of the equation. There are many more treasures that you can take away from your WA experience.

Until next time folks,

Lyra
