Before I even get into it - I am not sure about that cover photo - being a sensitive viewer, it really disturbs me! Having said that though, this is quite a serious topic, addressing the toxic articles I have had the displeasure of viewing recently. Here goes, the image is disturbing, so too is the topic of this blog: Be Sure To Taste Your Words Before You Spit Them Out (Author Unknown).

I have now scrolled down so that I don't need to look at the feature image as I write this article - yes, that is how much it disturbs me.

What Is This All About?

Let's lighten the mood (somewhat) and play a game of charades:

You got it - TWO WORDS

First word:

Second Word:

You got it: KEYBOARD WARRIOR!

What Is She On About?

(My daughter used to give me that kind of look too, lol!)

Stay with me now, there is a purpose to this blog, a serious one which I am attempting to lighten the mood of because it's tricky to write about.

Keyboard Warriors - Social media is full of them, I have been guilty on occasion too. But Let's discuss this:

In all seriousness, what purpose does it serve to be a keyboard warrior? Yeah, yeah, we get to blow off some steam! Perhaps that prevents us from leaving other destruction in our wake (shouting at the kids, kicking the dog, flipping the bird in traffic - Disclaimer: these are all expressions, not something I have done)

Maybe being a Keyboard Warrior is not so bad after all. Or is it?

Let's have a look at a few more quotes I found online:

  • Don't mix bad words with your bad mood. You'll have many opportunities to change a mood but you'll never get the opportunity to replace the words you spoke. bestlovequotesandsayings.tumblr.com
  • Words are like eggs dropped from great heights. You can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall. Jodi Picoult
  • Words spoken cannot be recalled so think twice before you speak. Shakespeare

Ah, so words are powerful - right? Are you starting to get the picture about why we should "Taste Our Words Before We Spit Them Out?"

We Are All Wordsmiths

Thank you for your patience, for getting this far with me. We are starting to connect the dots on this discussion.

Yes, as online marketers, we are all Wordsmiths. We write words to ply our trade, to convey our messages, to attract our readers, to persuade and entice our audience to our wares. We also use imagery, that makes us Imagesmiths too (I may have just coined a new phrase :-). Imagery is powerful too - we just saw that in the cover image for this post (perhaps I should apologize for that at some stage ... ok, ok, I am sorry for using something so disturbing to attract your attention - hopefully it didn't chase you away. We humans are strange aren't we? The more sensationalist, the more negative, the more we want to read - yes, that is why the news channels have audience numbers they can boast about, people have a fascination for the negative (even the dark and morbid).

But Here's The Thing:

That's right, everything is indeed connected.

What we write here in Wealthy Affiliate, we may as well write on our websites, on our social media. The world get's to see it!

Wealthy Affiliate is a website folks!

Everything we write is visible, it is viewed by our followers, it is viewed by others who may even be considering the opportunity - make that the AWESOME OPPORTUNITY! - Wealthy Affiliate presents!

Here is another quote for you:

  • The written word can be erased - not so with the spoken word. Source Unknown.

But actually, that is no longer true - we could erase what we wrote back in the day when we were using a quill and ink ...

But that is no longer the case. With the advent of the World Wide Web, we have massive advantages in that we have the potential to reach 4 Billion people plus AND once the word it written - cannot be erased. It's out there for the world to see.

So in addition to the massive advantages, we also have massive responsibility.

Get To The Point Already...

Hopefully the lead up to the point has worked its way under your skin sufficiently for you to be saying those words ... "Get To The Point Already" ...

Please fellow WAers, remember, when you write within the WA community, you are communicating with the world at large.

  • Yes, you may be under pressure,
  • Yes, you may be experiencing some tech challenges.
  • Yes, it may be trying to not have every answer at your finger tips right now, right in this moment of pressure and frustration.

Try to remember:

When you are experiencing all the growing pains - view them for what they are - growing pains.

The pressure, frustration and everything else you experience as a result of learning and growing and building your own online business, is or has been experienced by others within this wonderful community!

Finally, Here is the point:

Rather than blowing off steam and sharing our frustrations with the world at large in WA blogs, we should make use of the amazing tools that WA has put at our disposal:

Help Center

  • Site Support (an awesome team right there)
  • Ask a Question (get answers from a very generous community)
  • Live Chat (attempt not to blow off steam here, it affects us all)
  • Private Message (you can even message Kyle or Carson if it's that dire a situation, though you may wait a little longer for them purely because they're very busy guys)
  • You can even Message on other member's profile pages (Hamba gashle here too - means go carefully - because we can all see what you are saying)

Did you notice something in the above screenshot? Yes, we have access to hosts of real people who are experienced and extremely generous with their knowledge. Just ask your question and you will definitely receive answers. The people picture above are the Top Helpers Today - there are many, many more willing people who will assist you if they can!

Just to emphasize the awesomeness of the WA Platform, have a look below at further options available to you in the Help Center. When you click on Ask A Question, you even get to select which classroom your question pertains to. We are completely spoiled for choice.

Plus (Yes, there is more)

We can search for the answers to our questions and find training, blogs and other members questions (along with all the answers). It's even a simple process. We click on the image at the top of the page next to the WA logo - you will notice this is even personalized - type in the topic of what we are wrestling with, and wallah, the answers pop up!

Below you will see a working example of the results to "How To Ask A Question".

Wealthy Affiliate Is Awesome!

At the heart of it all, we can definitely agree that Wealthy Affiliate is indeed AWESOME!

Enjoy this awesome platform folks, we are so blessed to have found WA and to have access to the incredible facilities, detailed and top-class training, superb community of seriously wonderful people who are extremely generous with their expertise .... I am sure there is something I have missed here, please let me know in comments below what it is.

That's All For Now

In a way, this blog has been me blowing off some steam - I hope it has been received in the attitude I have given it though. We have amazing options within WA, let's make use of them rather than do damage with what we write.

Here is another saying I just love, may we all keep this in mind as we work with each other and portray ourselves to the world at large:

  • Blowing Out Someone Else's Candle Doesn't Make Yours Shine Brighter. (Unknown)

And a final reminder of where this article began: Be Sure You Taste Your Words Before You Spit Them Out (Unknown).

Blessings always

Great Post and a reminder for us all, because when we write these community posts, no matter how random a title we choose, without using Jaaxy for research, it could be a phrase that someone, somewhere types into a search engine, which if it happens to be a post within this community, will get seen by the outside world, so we do have to be careful when wanting to rant, as you say there are some awesome tools to solve our problem, before doing as I call it 'a Facebook and just ranting for the sake of ranting' when in reality we would do the opposite

This platform is a great learning platform, which houses in my humble opinion not just smart business owners, but elite marketing pros or those wanting to be

Thanks for sharing Louise, I really enjoyed the read and resonated with it

Hi Dave
Thank you so much. Funny, I was thinking about how Facebook rants a lot of the time whilst writing this :-)
Agreed, we are privileged to be in a community with elite marketing pros.
Blessings always
Louise

Absolutely and glad you liked it.

Whew Louise! I'm out of breath reading it. So true. Spot on. We have a ton of newbies, so we have to lead by example.
My mother was a teacher. She had an expression that still rings in my ears:
"If you can't improve on the silence, keep your mouth shut".
I love to write, but I always try to think before I write.
Great post.
Joe

Hi Joe
Thank you so much.
I've not heard that expression before but I do love it. "If you can't improve on the silence, keep your mouth shut". Just brilliant!
Your writing is evidence of that lesson too - you are always such a positive contributor.
Blessings
Louise

Thanks Louise.
Keep up the good work.
Joe

It seems we may have been on the same 'Thought Train'...
Thank You for this! You said it better than I did!
Shaunna

Hey my friend! I saw a 'Thursday Dancing Squirrel' saying 'Hey it's nearly Friday' and it reminded me of you hahahaha : )

🤣

it is the small things that bring such joy lol

Hi Shaunna
Thank you so much. Did I miss a blog from you on this topic? I am so glad to see I wasn't alone in the "thought train" :-) Great minds think alike (and we'll leave the fools out of this :-))
Will pop to your profile now and look for your latest blogs.
Blessings always friend
Louise x

AMEN... fools are beneficial for a chuckle...

Yay, I'll take that.

Brilliant! Hahaha!
As Twack says, "I'll take that".

Great topic! I really enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to reading more like it.
All the best to you.

Hi Gary
Glad you enjoyed the read. Thank you or taking the time to say so.
Blessings
Louise

I must admit I don't see too many negatives going on here.
I prefer it that way

Hi lawrence
Great to see you!
Yeah, you must be doing something right to have missed out, I certainly have noticed a splurge of negativity.
Blessings always
Louise

Hi Louise. I think you have raised a really good point that may well be overlooked by the majority, or maybe it's just not thought about. Everything on here is visible. As a 'free starter' member you are here for the first time and we all know how important first impressions are. If they choose not to stay because of something they've seen then, in effect, the course of their own life has been changed. Sounds melodramatic but it's true.
Tied in with that, there is a chance another members hard work has paid off and that the new member is a referral. Another knock on effect.
While we are here we should all act as Ambassadors and if we feel the need to vent or rant then maybe taking a step back and going outside to scream would help.
The thing about 'Keyboard Warriors' is that they need an audience or someone to vilify. If you leave their comments 'high and dry' without reply everyone can see that it was not worthy of any interaction and they end up looking a bit silly.

Just like the 'Post and Run' Spam posts, maybe we should treat them all the same, drive right on by, in a nice convertible, with a wave and a smile : )

That works for me.😄

Thought it might : )

BOOM!

Hi Twack
I found out about the visibility of what our WA blogs the hard way - not because of anything negative I wrote. Early on in joining WA I produced an article about mindset which I should rather have posted on my site and couldn't of course because then it would be duplicate content. I did find a way around it by tweaking the article though.
The points you have raised are very important, it is also the same when we have direct interaction with new members - the way we respond to questions and mistakes (which we all make) could affect whether someone stays or leaves.
As you say, "keyboard warriors" look for an audience, I do try not to engage :-)
Have a fab day!
Blessings
Louise

Another great article Louise. We all need to be more careful with what we blog or how we comment when in a 'mood'. Jim

Hi Jim
Thank you so much for your compliment and contribution. I was exhausted yesterday afternoon when this was initially on my mind, and decided not to write about it until I had a good night's sleep :-)
Blessings
Louise

Great post Louise.

My mum always used to say, if you can't say anything good, then don't say anything at all.

I know this is not always possible when frustration creeps in, but always think twice before you spit it out.

Cheers
Gaz

Hi Gaz

If only we could all live our lives that way - holding our tongues can be one of the most difficult things to do.

Thank you for stopping to read and share here too, really appreciated.

Blessings
Louise

Thanks, Louise for a very good post.

Enjoyed reading it and agree with you 100%.

Darren :)

Hi Darren

Wishing you all the best & a great day too!

Great post Louise x well said! There have been a lot of ‘judgement’ posts, and a general negative vibe. However (as I sit looking at some giant daisies from my car), I believe this community is here to be one of support and positive solutions. Sending the community lots of love x Sara

Hi beautiful Sara
So good to see you here :-)
Ah, giant daisies, what an awesome view that must be. Thank you for taking my mind off that feature image I have used, am still considering changing it, ugh!
Sending you lots of love too
Louise x
