This is Judy with her 3rd child, she is 35. Right after high school she became pregnant and started a family. And however, she is very happy with her husband and 3 children, she always keeps that feeling she missed out on her career changes.
This is Tom. Tom didn't like school, he wanted to work. When he was sixteen he stopped school and became a construction worker. He still is. He is 40 years of age now and not happy with his 7-4 job which also takes 2 hours travel time a day. He is thinking about how to start a new career at 40.

I am neither Judy nor Tom but still want more out my life. I do have a great job but feel strongly that I am not meant to be in the office. So far I am pushing myself to do the training and to get my head round the fact that I have to build a web site when I could have got some one to do it and I continue to sale my products. Well eventually I will get there.

the paths people take when they're young can be determined from the environment they grew up in and the messages they were given by their parents.
If you lived in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th century there were many hardships and a teenager was much more mature and ready to take on a lot of responsibility at a young age.
As the 20th century moved on and technology improved children had an easier life so they weren't as mature or ready for the responsibility they took on. Many did so to get away from a bad environment---prior to the baby boomer generation---children lived at home until marriage so the only way out was to get married or go to work.
In the 21st Century technology has changed enough that choices can be made and you can learn online or change the course of your career easier today than ever before
By making changes in their lives now they'll be sending messages to their children about the importance of change and improvement to your lifestyle
You are right, I am from the "60th and teenager in the "70th. The choices back then were quite different from the ones my children and grandchildren have nowadays.
In today society education has become more important along the road to success than it was in the past.
