Lower Conversion But Better Targeted I Think
Like a lot of people I promote the WA, and one of my marketing strategies is building my mailing list - but there's one thing that kind of nagged at me so I made this change.
My lead magnet is a video, and in this new video like in the old one I mention that they can check out the WA absolutely free with no payment information required.
But now I also mention there is a premium level that unlocks more powerful advanced tools, trainings and resources. But they don't have to move up to the premium level if you don't want to.
I did this because I want to be totally upfront with everyone - so they can come to the WA knowing that the free stuff is there so they can check things out for themselves. And if they want to advance their business, they have that option.
One thing I have come to know, there are a lot of tire kickers out there, especially in the MMO niche. Many people are still looking for the easy way, and when they come here, they get the reality check that there is no free ride, there is no "easy way" to build an online business.
Yes there are steps, but you have to be willing to work those steps. And if you're not willing to put in the work, my personal feelings are, don't bother with trying to build an online business.
So sure I may get fewer referrals, but I believe the ones I get from this point on will be better informed, and for me that's always a good thing.

I think it is a wonderful attribute to the pay it forward aspect of our community that you are upfront and honest with them. If they are really serious about success, they will see the value in paying the small monthly fee for the large amount of training and resources a Premium membership provides.
Setting expectations is always important for long term customer relationships, whether you are in traditional sales or digital marketing. It's also one of the aspects of sales that requires the most finesse - please keep us updated if you notice a difference in referral acquisition vs retention!
I agree with you. People want to know up front what the future will cost if they continue. I tried a couple of affiliate marketing companies before finding WA, and the last one I tried sounded like it would be good and also affordable. But once you got into it a bit, they wanted big payments to move forward. Yes, tell them what to expect. You might make a little chart with the monthly fee, the six-month fee and the annual fee. Since those amounts figure out to less per month, people might like to know that up front as well.

Fully agree with you - no use to spend time on tire kickers! It boils down to the same thing, when Kyle teaches us to use keywords that show buying intend, rather than targeting people who are just information gathering. Well done, you are moving in the right direction! ;-)

Hi Leo. We agree completely. It doesn't benefit anyone to have people joining WA in the mistaken belief that they are going to make a ton of money on the free membership. We go so far as to say that the free membership should be considered simply as a risk-free opportunity to check the program out and decide if it's going to be a good fit.
