Should I stay or should I go?

I’ve had a really incredible month here at Wealthy Affiliate. I’ve learnt so much about myself and online marketing. As a stay at home mum it’s really given me a sense of achievement and identity, I feel like I’m doing something for myself for a change.

This week my laptop died (insert crying face here.) I just can’t afford to replace it right now and I’m slightly devastated as I can’t continue the progress I’ve been making. I can’t really justify membership fees especially when I know I’m not making major improvements.

I suppose what I’m asking is what will change when I leave. Can I still gain access to my website with my own domain? Can I use site content? And most importantly, when I’m able to sign back up will everything be re-instated and I can pick up where I left off? Or will I have to start over again with training, ranking, keyword lists, etc.

My best suggestion will be to resort to your smartphone. When started this journey, my laptop was bad and needed replacement and not having the money to do so then, I started with my phone, even.built my website with it and did everything on it for over 5 to 6 months before replacing the laptop. As I write this, I still alternate between the two. So it's definitely an alternative to consider.

Looks like there are some great answers already. I would suggest trying the public library or smartphone use at least till you can get a way to replace your computer. I even thought of having a garage sale or yard sale one time when I needed to raise some money quick. Whatever you choose I do hope you can come back at some point and restart when you are able.

Perhaps seeking an alternative for the laptop wOuld be a better option....

Since 4 people have given 4 different answers, I looked this up. It's 4 years old, so I don't know if the policy has changed since then. Anyway, here it is, complete with a comment from Carson.

Hi - you would have to cancel your membership and you would lose access to this platform. If you want your website to remain active you are given 30 days to move it to a new hosting provider.

Hi Lauren
WA will keep your site active for a full 30 days and after that if you come back within 6 months (I have seen people come back after that) then there's a good chance you will be able to take up where you left off.

I know it can be a pain, but I'd like to make some suggestions to gain alternate access to WA.

Are you a member of a local public library? Most have computers for members to use.

If you have a smart phone that is also another way to access WA. Ideally a tablet would make it easier to navigate.

It seems you have benefitted so much being a member that do whatever it takes to continue having access.

I wish things work out better for you.

Cheers.

Edwin

I agree with Edwin,
when I had no PC, I used the local library, who gave me free access for one hour slots or more when it wasn't busy. Just a few weeks ago, I needed to go and wait for my daughter at a school function, so I went to the nearest library and made use of 4 hours. I wrote and published a post.

I believe there's a 1 month grace period before you lose access to your account after canceling your membership. After that you won't be able to access your content.

The best thing to do is to make a backup copy of your website, presumably on another computer since yours died, before you cancel.

That way, when you come back, you can import your content into the website you'll create with your new account.
