Where Does Social Networking Fit in the Big Picture

You might be new to all of this blog writing, keyword researching, domain name buying, word counting, affiliate product seeking, niche topic discovering, set of steps in building an internet business.

And then - you think "Huh, social ??? Give me a break! How much is *that* gonna cost me?"

Your mind swirls with anxiety before your pass out - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked-in, Google Plus, Google Search, and the list goes on.

"Where's my wine and valium ????! "

Traffic is Key to All Forms of Business

A friend and I were talking about some of the common expressions in business and what they have in common. Two of those expressions were -

* The key to business is location - Location - LOCATION !

* The key to business is early to bed, early to rise, advertise, Advertise & ADVERTISE !

Y'see, these two have one very important element in common and it's NOT the product. Nope. You can have a really bad product and do really well from it.

What these two ideas have in common is traffic. You need an AUDIENCE aka customers. However, it's really unfit to refer to people as customers if they haven't purchased from you.

Another relative term to mention here is the word market. Your market is not the money you make, it's not what you are selling, it's not where you sell it.... It is your target audience.

Market (Target Audience) - who you want or desire to present your products and services to. Obviously a Mothers Against Drunk Driving meeting isn't the best place to hang your Budweiser posters with girls in skimpy bathing suits kissing some cute dog. (Is that dog still around? Yes, I'm getting old.)

Audience is who you actually present your products and services to - people who fit the criteria most likely to be interested in your offerings.

Notice: I have only mentioned 'product' thus far in context of traffic. The key here is traffic. Without people you have nothing.

So where is the traffic? Where is the big MARKET PLACE in the SKY (cloud).

Social Networking is the Marketplace - the Place in Town Where Your Audience Roams the Streets Day and Night.

Lady, put the valium down. Go ahead with the wine.

Social networking places are NOT your blog. They can be confused with your blog sometimes if you aren't careful.

Social networking venues are just that - Venues. Market Places - Where the market comes to gather. The Shopping Mall. The Carnival. The State Fair. Someone give me a hand here - ..

Ok, get it? This is where you find your target audience.

location - Location - LOCATION --> Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

advertise, Advertise - ADVERTISE --> Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

So, why am I spending all this time worried about Google? Keywords this - and keywords that - long tail, short tail - snub tail ---- Arggggh !!

Calgonite - Take me aWay !! (Another age reference)

Google is Just Another Social Marketing Venue - Another Market Place

That's right. Even you can articulate without anyone putting words in your mouth that Google is a traffic soldier. However, NOT the most effective source of traffic for the beginning stages of an internet business.

An important one - YES.

The end-all traffic source - NO

Google has been losing wind with big internet marketers for some time now. Still VERY important though.

Key point : Understand what Google is - And - what Google is NOT. It's just a traffic source. It's not your business.

Know Who All Of Your Potential Traffic Sources Are and What They Have to Offer You

Google is a traffic source. So is Facebook, Twitter, etc.

As a matter of fact, my BEST traffic source is TWITTER. Go Figure. Spending all of your time worrying over keywords etc is a waste of time - if - and only if you aren't optimizing your content to be read by humans.

I won't go into the things I have learned about the different Socials (traffic sources) here. If I get any requests I'll post separate articles.

Your Website is Your Product Booth in the Marketplace

The time you spend working on your website is absolutely requisite. This is YOUR product home. The end of the road.

The Taj Mahal.

But, even, to get to these places you need a map and knowledge of the place. Otherwise it sits alone with no visitors. Guess where I learned interesting facts about the Taj Mahal. It wasn't on Google.

It was on Facebook. Sorry, I back-tracked a little.

Your Content is your Product Brochure

The content you spend so much precious time writing is your sales copy. This is where your relationship building skills come in. Are you just throwing words at the screen like an abstract painter. Or is there intention to the words.

Your time working on these pages is also crucial and requisite. These pages are what establish trust in you. YOU. Not so much the content.

Remember that YOU are always an important player in this game. This is your opportunity to be a Tom Brady of internet marketing. I'm really starting to get excited now!

What Your Audience Leaves Your Site with - is the Product

In the end, your audience will leave your site. They will read or not read everything you had to say.

They will purchase or not purchase what you had to offer.

They will remember or not remember who you are.

But, they WILL walk away with SOMETHING.

THAT is your product at any given moment.

It might not be the product that YOU wanted them to walk away with. But, indeed, hope that they walk away with something GOOD. Because if they do, all the work you have put into building that relationship will pay off at some point int the future.

Finally

Learn more about the social networking sites and how you can take advantage of finding thousands upon thousands of new visitors and relationships - People who might just want what you have - YOU.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read. I look forward to your responses.

Kyle. :)

You Tube, LinkedIn and Pinterest also potential.

Yes, those are also very powerful social opportunities.

Kyle, Kyle, Kyle, that was... GREAT! Excellent information and very well written. I loved it! I couldn't wait to scroll down to read more. You had me laughing or LOLing.

Odam, thanks so much for the gracious compliments. I really do appreciate it.

Great post Kyle, insightful.

I had ignored social media for ages as a source of traffic and a place to share my work, basically because I had a dislike of the facebook style life most people seem to have these days, it always seems like such a waste of time to me and generally filled with utter garbage.

Recently I have come to realise, I suppose more like accept, it can be an invaluable tool to us and have taken more care and interest in this aspect of our business and began to slowly embrace it instead of ignoring it.

Thanks

Neil

Neil,

I think your feelings are mutual among many people. But, I think your realizations are similar to others as well, including mine.

Thank you so much.

Hi Kyle, wn excellent post. Irv.

Thank you so much, Ivine !!!

You have a great post, what's sad is when I'm on facebook snooping to see what my kids are up to, I never pay attention to the ads. I think of facebook as one big gossip page, now I'm going to watch for ads to see what you mean.

Ads are a method of reaching people. But, more than that - it's important to create your own fan page / business page that represents your website / niche.

Not your day to day page fort gossiping with friends.

On your business page, you want to collect as many followers as possible.

The in-depth details of creating a business page is outside the time available here - but it's easy and free.

Look into it if you haven't already and get started.

Sooner the better.

You've done a good job of creating a kind o "Cliff's Notes" for this very important information...good job...and thanks...

Thank you, too. I always appreciate your positive feedback.

Kyle
