Just want to send out a stern warning to anyone that plans on trying to game the system here at WA, the affiliate program primarily.

WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

You will not get paid and you will lose ALL accounts associated with you here at WA. We take these things very seriously and we have noticed that some members, even some paying members trying to implement these tactics.

Just don't do it. No lenience or exceptions on your completely removal from WA going forward. This is a community of awesome people and we have no problems removing any people that try to game.

Thanks again!

Kyle isn't likely to define "gaming" for a couple of reasons.

1) It might give people ideas that they don't already have. And no matter how good their system is - no online security is completely secure.

2) Any definition would be incomplete. Much better to leave it open than to try to enumerate every possible scam. Miss one scam and the offender defends himself with "It's not on the list"

You won't game the system accidentally Don't worry about that. The warning is for those that will intentionally try to build affiliate commissions by cheating. By referring non-existent account holders.

In short - be honest. Don't try to cheat to steal commissions.

Promote WA in an honorable way.

"Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud."
Sophocles

Do the right thing and you don't need to worry about what "gaming the system" is.

Well said :)

Hey Kyle, might be a dumb question but I'm not gaming? Right?

Playing Call of Duty is gaming, but not the gaming I am referring to.

I'm really amazed that at the WA there are people who trying to game the system?! I never hear something like this in almost one and half year of my membership here. WA is full of truly awesome people and I'm sure that is a very few cases. Thank you for continued development and keeping a quality of this great community!

Yes, I am not sure what "gaming" means either.

Not sure what you mean by "gaming" on WA ? Can you please describe what this is.

Gaming is an unethical practice when people are trying to manually work a system to their benefit. In the case of the affiliate program, people are trying to "game" it so they can earn credits by signing fake users up. This is the unethical behaviour that I was referring to.

That is amazing to me, that someone would have to "cheat" to make money with WA, when it is all right there for free. All ya have to do is read.

Most people don't, but a small percentage of people in this world want to cheat to win. Look at Lance Armstrong!

Kyle, I was going to suggest you guys implement some kind of captcha system within the initial WA account registration to better discern humans from bots. Or is the registration system "anti-bot" enough without implementing capchas?

This cannot be done and there is no benefit to doing this within Wealthy Affiliate.

Hmm... I don't understand why you say that. For instance, most forums and sites I've signed up in had some kind of captcha in the registration form, mostly to stop people that use automated software to open up mass accounts in different sites just to put a backlink in each new profile.

... but well, I guess that in this case a captcha might be more of a hindrance to each invited user.

people weren't necessarily gaming the system by using a bot, they were manually make fake account one after another and manually uploading a photo/"about me"/talking in chat, so a captcha system would be irrelevant in that case

Oh, yes of course... although, in that case you can easily see who is making all those accounts by just checking the IP address.

it's even easier than that, just check their followers by follow date

There are many things we can do to check for gaming and trust me, it is very easy to uncover this sort of activity ;)

I wish more sites with affiliate programs would be more proactive like this.

Many definitely are not, but as with anything, there are the good with the bad. Most companies with affiliate programs have little technical knowledge which represents a huge hole in itself!

Thank you both so much for so strongly protecting the integrity of this community.

No problem, it is our utmost responsibility and we will continue to move to sustain the quality of the community here. This is a place for people that want to learn, help and ultimately succeed...not game or scam.

I wouldn't have a clue on how you would even do that.. I think of WA as a large international family, a good family. Please, don't bring it down.

It is and we are going to keep it this way! :)

Hope I am OK, lol. Just put up my WA site. With a system this easy to promote I just do not understand why anyone would take the risk, but I guess they do.

Yeah, it happens and there is no benefit of doing so here, in fact it will only serve as a hindrance to those trying to do it. Most people are good people (something that I have learned over the years) and you definitely have nothing to worry about Shawn :)
