aloha from the beautiful islands of Hawaii ! A couple hours a day you can indeed find me on the coral reef swimming with schools of fish, and with some of my buddies the giant sea turtles. But most of the time I am on the computer, building my business with great enthusiasm since I have joined WA.. Here I have found a hardworking, high-achieving and generous group of people, and I am just beginning to mine the depths here, so I will also become a hardworking, contributing and successful member of this community.
I am an MD pretty much retired, and I find my skills and experience are useful pretty much anywhere--including online marketing. I have an interest in developing programs that introduce and support the diverse and highly skilled group of people with disabilities, to ways they can group together in teams, and build successful internet marketing businesses. And of course, I can be the best teacher of this, by doing it very well myself. So, here we go !

Hello Diane,

I found a really thoughtful comment that you recently left for Nathaniel and thought, "goodness, I need to get over and meet this person". Besides it seems that we share a love for the ocean and it's wonder and beauty. I have friends who live on the Big Island and wish my life were such that I could visit these precious people more often.

I'm looking forward to having time to get some reading done in your blogs and to go and check out your website. In the meantime. please accept my greetings. I'm convinced with the goals you have in mind you will be bubbling great things to the surface, if you haven't already (and I have just missed them).

A VERY good morning to you, Diane...it will be closer to noon across the spanse of ocean. Mahalo for your thoughtful response. In time, with the work I am doing here, I am hopeful we can indeed come for a good visit to the Big Island. SO much variety there.

My dear friends live on the Hilo side, a small community, Honokaa. He works in the power plant and they have mom living with them now. She has been a friend of mine since I was a teen, I'm 62 now.

Life how precious it is.

Hope your day there is filled with many joyful moments!

Diane, thanks for the follow back. I appreciate it. I enjoyed reading your profile. Coral reef swimming sounds fantastic. I did a bit of snorkeling as a youngster when I lived in Florida, but nothing to compare to your coral reefs. I read an article a while back "Whales Are People Too" by Jeff Warren about the growing movement to have whales and dolphins declared "persons". It made me think about them in a whole new light and when we destroy them we are really destroying an ancient living culture. ~Jude

Diane, I just re-read your profile and it's official, I'm Jealous! I can only imagine how wonderful it is to swim with God's creatures. I would love it. Have you ever swam with the dolphins? I would love to do that.

Meredith, you are so right-on. Swimming with these extraordinary creatures just about daily, is manna for the spirit. The giant green sea turtles are my special friends. Once in a blue moon I get to swim with spinner dolphins. They don't usually swim on the coral reefs that I frequent. I do have swimming friends in other parts of the island where water near the shore is deeper and not so rich in coral. That's where spinners tend to hang out.

The creature who appears silently although rarely is the manta ray. They are so gentle, do not have the stinging barbed tail most other rays have, and are so gently curious about humans. Looking eye to eye with curious manta is a great treat.

great description, you ! Indeed I am a lost Lemurian who rediscovered home. Funny thing, starting with one great-great-grandfather, five generations in my family spent time in the islands. Way back to mid 1800s.
Adventurers all. In New England, my greatgrandfather whom I knew well when I was a girl, had a cat named Kapu, I listened to the ocean in a Hawaiian conch shell, and slept in a four-poster bed topped with carved pineapples. Family told me that pineapples were the symbol of New England hospitality. made no sense to me as a kid because...how could NEers way way back know anything about pineapples. And the weather was all wrong in NE for growing pineapples.
The article club is in full swing, and I know you will find it just great when you do it. It's all about the pace, all about the pace. I, of course, have spotty access to the internet while i am traveling, so I will be doing huuuuuuuuuge catchup once I get to California.

Thanks for the lovely comments, Diane. And a belated happy birthday, by the way! The thing is, I'm NOT good at using spreadsheets. I"m wretched at it. I want to make them my friends. I want to love them. I know that they will make me a better business person all the way around. "The devil is in the details," as they say. I've lost track now of how many people have reminded me of that along the way. :-) How is your Halloween campaign going??? A good blog post for you might be about how Lady Gaga went out trick or treating as herself last year. My daughter told me that yesterday. I imagine she will be a very popular teen girl costume choice again this year, so maybe a blog post about that would lend itself naturally to a little extra site traffic. Thinking of you...I'm sure September in Hawaii is amazing....

Thanks for the great insights, Diane! Here's some gold for your troubles. :-) Of course! Where else is the mentoring process as formalized and as critical as in medicine? And, after having seen my sister-in-law go through med school and residency, I'd have to say that the analytical and question-asking skills a doctor develops would serve well in just about any undertaking requiring independent critical thinking. Like IM for example...

Wouldn't it be cool if WA included a gallery of finished, successful examples relating to particular training modules? I like that idea a lot.

Thanks, Diane!

Hi Diane, A big mahalo to you! I am still hurting, but it is better. Using something homeopathic called Traumeel. It's a topical ointment. I don't know if it really works, but was suggested by my holistic doctor. Has calendula in it. The thing that hurts the most is the pinched nerve. Feel it across my collarbone. Even hurts to wear a seat belt. Well, not spending much time at the computer for a few days should help. Also gently rolling the shoulders. I am very grateful to you for your knowledgeable feedback. I loved the cloud description. Sounds so cozy. I think buying a really good pillow is wise, maybe even a scientifically based ergonomic pillow. My pillows start out fat and end up flat. I give them a real workout. Tried using one of those memory mattresses once, and a memory pillow. It had a strange scent that bothered me. Maybe the new ones don't have that. The latex mattresses sound excellent. Very good if you are allergic to dust mites, I understand. Glad your daughter is enjoying hers. Diane, I'm very impressed with your swimming prowess. VERY impressed. Your shoulders have to be PERFECT!!!You can be a swimsuit model. Victoria Secret model too. Life in Hawaii sounds not only gorgeous, but healthy. And I like the language. Love, your buddy J

Wow...as soon as you had mentioned Negroponte, Diane, I was also urged to read his book Going Digital by another friend. Yes, I had heard of the laptop initiative--and what a great one it is! Amazing the way one person's ideas can really change the world in this digital age. (Thinking of Yunus and the founding of Kiva.org in this regard as well...) Thanks for the encouragement and, well, just for reading and following. It means a lot, Diane. Sending my best to you across a continent and ocean. ~ Maureen

Great idea to market Halloween! I'll get back to you with some ideas as soon as I can. (The kids are with their dad this week.) It'd be great if you'd do some articles on adult costume ideas. That can be a teensy bit stressful sometimes. Also, your aspirations don't always mesh with physical reality. (i.e., I'd love to go with a date as Neo and Trinity, but....) The best ones are the ones that are minimalist in their costume requirements and thoroughly clever. I'm getting excited just thinking about all of the links you could have for not-the-usual costume supplies. Cool niche choice! BTW, I love your idea about teaching handicapped adults affiliate marketing. Beautiful. Are we talking about just physically handicapped adults? Or do you think this would also be possible in a limited way for the mentally handicapped? I'm asking because one of my best friends is on the board of a local nonprofit to help mentally handicapped adults live independently.

hey you with your motorcycle...you are so right my WA image needs to be me with the sea, or an underwater one face to face with a fabulous honu.
My daughter and IM----she'll believe I can do it when she sees a decent income. (that's so many people's story, isn't it.) And when she sees I can do it, she will definitely want it for herself. That's when we can corral some of her online buddies handicapped in one way or another, and create functional groups, Teams. I really like teams. The team is so much more than the sum of its parts kind of thing.
She already has a few handmade products on Etsy, so she values what IM can be.
And I'll let you know!

Oh, and I just saw your comment back to me on your blog. Isn't it fun when we can blog-post about whatever's closest to the heart and it can make someone else's world a little bigger and broader? I've told a few friends now about an online community member who actually lives ON a reef. It's simply impossible to be that cool in a center-hall colonial on a cul de sac.
Reply

I would really have to mind my manners in a center hall colonial. I do things like slip off my shoes when I enter a home (we all do that here) and run around barefoot indoors. I sleep outdoors on a covered lanai (no, not everyone does that here, but some do). Last night for some reason I was wide awake til almost sunrise. So I listened to the ocean contentedly all night long.. How can you go wrong that way?
