The 5 Biggest Niche Mistakes Newbies Make

Niches, no matter how much we talk about them there is still some confusion that surrounds the term "niche".

Because of this, I want to offer you what I see to be the top 5 mistakes and worries I see when people are attempting to decide on their initial group of people (niche) they are going to choose to build their business around.

Mistake 1: Being Too Broad

Far too many people choose “health and fitness” as a niche. The problem is, health and fitness covers just about everything that a human does, from dieting, to meditating, to finding out cures to foot warts, pharamaceutics and bootcamp style exercises.

Within this super broad niche alone, there are 10,000’s much smaller, yet still massive niches. You want to target a specific GROUP of people with your niche.

Instead of “health and fitness”, narrow it down. Help people solve a problem.

Helping people “Sprained Thumbs and Fingers”….is a niche.

Helping people with “Crossfit Exercises” is a niche.

See where I am going here, be more specific! Knowing who your audience actually is (clearly defined) will lead to much more success.

Mistake #2: Thinking a Niche is Too Small

All niches have ENDLESS amounts of opportunity within them.

In fact, here are 2.8 billion people online and we are all now more connected than ever. This is the audience you are dealing with the Internet and even some of the most obscure niches have millions of people interested in them.

YOU make a niche profitable and that is why it is important that you decide on a niche that you are interested in/passionate about. It will make the journey that much more fun and exciting. ;)

There are people with full time businesses within every niche you can imagine, from bird watching to kids tablets. The niche YOU decide is the best niche!

Mistake #3: Fearing Your Expertise in a Niche

Nobody starts off as an expert within any niche, nobody. Every expert you see out there started off somewhere and the online world and what you learn here is going to walk you through the process of becoming an expert.

Every expert surgeon started off as a first year student...in fact, a first day student. Every person with expertise within the online business world (myself included) started off with ZERO knowledge.

That should be exciting to you knowing that you can enter absolutely ANY niche you want and become the expert and build a full time income doing so.

Immerse yourself into your niche. People will trust you if you can offer them help and you don't have to reach the "expert" status to have a full time business within a niche.

Mistake #4: Forgetting About the Biggest Niche Source

Don’t confuse a niche for what it really is...

PEOPLE!!

An specific group of people that share an interest. This could be anything and every single person is part of 1,000’s of niches.

For instance, I am constantly looking for things online.

I am part of the baby niche (I have an 8 month old daughter), always looking for things from baby toys, gates, clothing, food ideas/recipes, to questions that I have. This alone is 100’s of different niches.

I am part of any “niche” as I need things or I am looking to fix things. The other day I was looking up how to “fix” my drain in my bathroom. That can be a complete niche and I leverage several niche websites and took their advice.

You are an incredible source for niches, everything you do during that day is likely part of a niche. Look around you, look at your habits, your problems, things you need help with, and things you love. These are all niches.

Mistake #5: Thinking Your Niche Sucks!

Most people spook themselves out of their decision, thinking that it might not be perfect. If you are interested in your niche or you are passionate about it, then it is the right niche for you.

There is no right or wrong, you can be successful with absolutely any niche you decide upon if you put forth the effort.

Thanks kyle. Very informative clarifications, and so inspiring.

Thank you Kyle for the teaching.

Good information, thanks Kyle.

Thanks Kyle. Think NIche! I like.

I really needed to read that! Thanks so much for posting that. Doubts have begun to creep into my mind of whether or not I have chose the right nice or whether or not I can really make any money from this, but reading this has helped tremendously and reminded me why I want to do this and the goals I want to achieve.

good points

Thanks Kyle for the support. Sometime self doubt gets in the road of success!

Thanks so much Kyle, for being so hands on in your business. This is a unique enterprise and I'm happy to be part of it. Thanks for hammering it in that niches are people, I see that my site is too broad; it's a lifestye rather than a niche, I could reduce it to three or four niches,
Pam

Often times the case, you can always narrow down a niche. Much easier to start more targeted and scale outwards than the other way around (and less overwhelming).

It's always valuable for me to read what you are saying, Kyle. I was in the midst of defining a new niche when I paused to check email and came here to read your post. And sure enough, even though you weren't specifically addressing my question, just by reading your thinking I got my question answered. Yahoo! big thanks!

Well said!
