Have you heard you can make millions of dollars online? Did you know you can work in your pajamas and out earn your neighbors? Would you like to be driving a Lamborghini near your exotic beach house? All these promises and claims I have heard over and over and over again. In fact since I have spent several years now looking for that magic button and experimenting with numerous MLM’s, Affiliate programs, and network marketing programs I receive dozens of emails daily making these crazy promises. I discovered the answer finally to the burning question. Are you ready? There is no magic button to start the flow of cash to your mailbox.

There is a Method that Succeeds After All

During my exploration though I found something valuable. I have met and interviewed many very successful gurus of online, home business entrepreneur programs. I have seen how their methods work and learned to emulate them. I have discovered the secrets they use everyday for success. It is a 4 letter word. It is called work.

Yes I hate to break it to you but to become a success online takes work. It is the same as any other thing in life. Your job, career, marriage, relationships, everything takes effort to be a success in it. But don’t run away after hearing that because doing the right work and nestling your self into your own little niche, your own business can be indeed very, very rewarding. You too could be the one driving that Lamborghini.

A Habit that Works

There a lot of little things that add up to success in any business whether it is online or otherwise. I want to talk about how to set a schedule for your efforts that is necessary for success in your home business and one that too few entrepreneurs ever master. Whether you are starting out part time to see if you can monetize your hobby or jumping into it full time this discipline is a requirement. Treat your business like your job!. That means give it the same respect you would even a part time job at Walmart.

Set a Schedule

The number one thing that derails any would be home business entrepreneur is scheduling. Now you are working from home and there are a lot of distractions. The refrigerator is only a few feet from my computer desk. The dog really wants to go for a walk, the kids want to play, the phone is ringing and it is your best friend but I say ignore them. If you were at the office you wouldn’t stop for those things, would you? Why do you treat your personal business any different?

The most important thing you can do today for your eventual success is set a schedule. If you are a part timer or working full time set a schedule just like your job. Personally I set tasks for every working hour. It might look something like this:

Monday is admin day. For me this is the day to get all those back office things handled. Maybe it is website maintenance, banking issues, new courses or learning. I not only do this on Monday but set a time schedule to accomplish it. I work full time so it might be a course or webinar replay starting at 9 AM. The time might be different for you if you only have evenings but then set it for an hour after dinner. This is work time, no interruptions.

Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday I schedule my time the same way but this might be a major focus work day. Maybe I am writing for my blog, interacting with visitors and clients or researching a new site to review but I have a set hours that am at work.

Friday is follow up day. This is the day I set aside for anything that I didn’t get accomplished during the week. It is the day I follow up with my best clients. I reach out to my peers for idea and encouragement. I determine my schedule for the next week and set the tasks and deadlines. I look at new learning opportunities.

The beauty of a home based business is you get to set the times you are productive but make sure you do. If you don’t, success will most likely be fleeting at best. You ma have 8 hours a day to work or maybe only 2 hours but set a schedule and stick too it. Look to accomplish a task in each session. Combine this discipline with a strong passion and the right platform and you have gone a long the way to finding that magic button, just like the gurus do. You see one other I discovered from the gurus is that they are the hardest worker and most discliplined ones out there.

Thanks for the share Kevin.

Thanks for sharing. My online business is a supplement to my job income so I only have evenings and weekends. When I get home from work I just have 5 hours before I go to bed. So weekends I can set my schedule.

Many folks are developing their home business while holding a full time job and I know it can be a tiring thing but I would recommend if you can to work something out to spend a little time maybe 2 or 3 days during the week. Maybe an hour after dinner or before bed. Think of it like a part time job for extra money. If you were scheduled a couple of time a weeks for that McDonalds shift you would be there wouldn't you?

Just to clarify, I often spend a little time in the evenings to work on my sites, like a couple hours, because i have a short time before its time to go to bed. Weekends I can set a schedule and spend some more time.

Thanx Kevin - I will presume then from what you suggest - you never will have to be dependent on an employer or any other person or organisation - to make your 'daily bread'!!

I'm just starting so need the confidence of you and others like you who make a living on WA

thanx for the 'share'

Work hard, set schedules and stick to them to reach your goal. A great reminder. Thanks Kevin.

Thanks for sharing Kev! My biggest obstacle right now is scheduling. I do internet marketing part time because I still have a day job. Usually i would feel very tired in the evening and get little done for my online business.

I understand tired. But it may be important to you to try and schedule 2 or 3 evenings a week when you can put in an hour. Turn off the TV and work at this like it is another part time job. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the advice Kev. I can invest around 1-2 hours in the evenings.

Good points Kevin .. Cheers, William.

Hi Kev,
Very good advice.
Cheers
Tony

Very useful article.

Hey Kevin, thanks for this.
Do you use a scheduling resources or just a calendar such as Google?
Jackie

I do use Google calendar but I am rather old fashioned. I use a pencil and paper a lot. I set a work schedule that says at say 2 PM to 6 PM I am working on this or that task. That is my 'hours' at work, I don't answer the phone. Just as if I off at the job. Usually with my schedule I set that out on my Friday follow up day and update it Monday as I do my admin stuff.
