Light Emitting Diodes in a Digital Age
Light emitting diodes is one of the fastest growing technologies. The industry will double in growth by the year 2025. Incandescent light bulbs and compact fluorescents will be phased out.
The consumer has tons of information available to them about LED light bulbs, but few take the time to educate themselves about LED technology. When we go to replace a burned out lightbulb, they become even more confused. The traditional light bulbs we looked for Watts. LEDs use lumens equivalent to Watts. For example, a 60- watt incandescent light bulb LED equivalent would be 9-watt.
The Dept. of Energy and Energy Star are government institutions that inform and educate the consumer with an at a glance placard located right on the box.
Energy Star tests products through a series of rigorous tests to assure the customer that they are getting a quality product. LEDs are a part of this testing. Energy Star tests LEDs for energy efficiency, durability, environmental impact, and cost savings per year. This information provided for the consumer right on the box to make an informed decision.
The Dept. of Energy and Energy Star focuses all their attention on giving information to the user to make the best choices on the products they are consuming.

Have you seen Dr. Alexander Wunsch on the hidden dangers of LED lights? He concludes halogens are much safer for our eyes, closest to daylight...the new cars drive me nuts with their overbright lights too...
I have seen many articles about the dangers of compact fluorescent lights as well as LEDs. As the technology of LEDs grows many companies are looking at how to calm down the blue light emitted from LEDs. Light Science has developed LEDs that calm down the blue light emitted. Using the research for specific space lighting. Example, they have an awake light bulb for areas like offices etc. And the night light for sleeping spaces.
In my home state the legislation has passed a law that outlaws those headlights.

wow, interesting on the headlights!!!!! In Ireland they are just taking off bigtime in all the new cars, blinding! I guess it's going to be the same with the LEDs, one place gets real careful but the others get away with what they can as long as they can. What is your home state where they are banned, I'd like to take a look at that. Your bio shows you move around a lot!
Thanks Kevin! First time I'm hearing about this trend and actually reading this although I've started seeing the proliferation of LED's but just haven't paid attention. Thanks for the "education."
Cheers!
