I ran into some issues with the plugin you are talking about. It says it has not been tested to demonstrate that it will work with the current version of Wordpress. I found another plugin called called Italy Cookie something. It was supposed to be compatible with the current version of Wordpress. I could not figure out the settings and nothing displayed on the screen when I did make settings.

sometimes, "not compatible" just means not tested on current wp 4.4 version, it is running on all four themes I'm using? I'll check it out and get back to you tomorrow. on my cell phone now, sorry. :)

Hi KD. It is nice to meet a fellow retired trucker that likes chess.
I had 35 years of trucking and retired in 2011. If you are in the Chess Federation and play in tournaments you are probably more advanced than myself. I did do a WA blog "Pawn Power Chess." Thanks for following.

Right now I'm not feeling all that good about making my website successful. For the near future it looks like Amazon affiliate links is all I'm going to have. Most companies don't want their stuff advertised on a startup website that doesn't already have a huge following. Smaller chess product companies would probably provide more guidance on what the product reviews ought to say. Amazon doesn't review your site until you make your first sale of their products. If you don't produce anything in the first 180 days they revoke your membership in the associates program. Many visitors to my site are going to be thinking: Why should I buy from this site? Why not bypass it and go directly to Amazon? I'm not sure I have an answer for that. I would prefer that I have multiple links to places other than Amazon. But right now I don't.
The guidance on keywords from Jaaxy has so far failed to produce visitors to my site other than those coming from WA. I'm wondering if I would have done better with Yoast instead of ALL IN ONE SEO.

Hi there KDclover..i remember when I was a kid or a young man, that everything I learned in class, was given to me in an order, we would start from basic boring aritmetics, to complex equations after few years, or in karate, we would start throwing simple punches and kicks and end up within time in complex forms and karate tournaments.but at the end we made everything "click" finally . I feel kind the same way you feel. But it is normal, we are newbies and most of the times we wanna see instant results..am I right? I just finished lesson 10 of my second level, and I believe I must continue with the more advanced courses so i can learn more specifically about Seo, social.marketing etc etc..and get into business.....see, I am as well struggling to make my first site attractive enough to attract visitors, just as you are... but in reality, it is like this: your website is just your "experiment" or "guinea pig" so you can work "hands-on" in every aspect of Internet marketing stuff we need to learn... so..I will continue taking the courses, put everything together while i go on the road and see where it takes me...i.am confident I will end up with foundation, knowledge, and practice enough at the end of the training, so that I would be able to make any site project profitable enough in the future for me or anyone else...don't despair my friend...one or two.more months into the training modules can free us...see you at the top!

Right now I'm trying to get the big haunchos to tell me if I have the right or wrong general approach with what I'm doing. I'm not sure that the site title should be "Clover's Chess Store". I'm selling nothing. I'm helping people find suppliers for what they want.
One possibility is to create separate pages for chess books, chess clocks, chess sets and pieces, chess computers. and chess DVDs. Each page would have a large number of affiliate links.
I don't know if what I'm visualizing is the right or wrong general idea. Kyle says too many affiliate links will get you blacklisted. I don't have a good feel for any of this.
Reply
lindasea Premium
Just remember that your site should be bringing to your audience value, the value of answering a question they have, or solving a problem. And you do that by having more content on your site than there are links to sell something. Kyle teaches that if sales links are discretely used, the site doesn't seem like a pushy salesperson standing right on your toes. And you will more likely keep a visitor to your site on your site and improve the chances they will come back too.

All of that takes time. It's like putting an ad in the paper on Monday when everyone reads the paper on Sunday and Wednesday for the ads. Kind of like having your audience there at the 'right time and the right place'. If it were brick and mortar business it would take time to advertise and bring folks to our store...this is in many ways no different, it takes a little time to build your audience.

The key to bringing the audience is your content on your site!

Just a couple thoughts from my perspective and in what I have tried to embrace from our WA course work.

As of right now I'm focused on the immediate issues of what I need to do now. I still haven't heard back from chesshouse.com. If I hear from them I will probably be waiting till Monday. I need to get all the mechanics right. I still don't understand the SharaSale form for requesting banners and links.
Many companies are going to be in no hurry to have me promoting their products. They will soon figure out that what I have affiliate links on is a startup website. They know that many startup websites are here today and gone tomorrow. And they don't expect to make a lot of money from promotion of their products on a startup website.

I went to your website and I can see you have some great links to Amazon and for now, that may be fine. You can get Chesshouse later. I like the Chess Clocks you have listed on your that page.

Have you considered getting a site icon or favicon on your browser tab - a little chess piece perhaps?
Reply
KDClover Premium
I haven't really thought about a site icon that much. Did you look at the "Chess Books and DVDs" page? I have links from that page that go to specialized pages for chess books on a specific category. When finished I will have maybe 25 or 30 links to product pages from that one. For chess computers and endgame books I have to go to Amazon. Far too few are available elsewhere. Chess opening books are fairly abundant at ChessHouse. Chess sets of many types are easy to find outside of Amazon.
I wish I knew which affiliate networks had which chess product merchants. Some companies like The Chess Store are in both Amazon and another affiliate network as well. Is Google going to punish me for having so many affiliate links?
I now have 3 chess supply merchants at Shareasale that I am working with. I have been getting a lot of bad links from The Chess Store that go to non-existent product pages. About 35% of the links they provide are worthless. Chessbazaar failed to list many of their available products in the datafeed. There are big problems with image size.
Reply
stephhill Premium
One thing to do when it comes to affiliate links is to be sure to cloak your affiliate links. Have you installed Pretty Links yet?
Reply
KDClover Premium
No I have not. Does that help me with the search engines or does it just change the cosmetic appearance of the site?
I am making frequent use of the coding you suggested to place multiple image links horizontally. I am ending having much of my product pages ChessHouse dominated. Where they have products I would like to promote, they help me out a lot by giving me a fairly long description of exactly what is being advertised. I have a lot more trouble with Amazon getting good information about what is being promoted. In many cases Amazon won't even tell me how many pages a book has. The prices for books are usually minimal prices for used books and some people won't actually pay that price.

I'm having trouble correctly following the stuff to promote Jaaxy. The training tape went way to fast for me to follow what he was talking about and get the details right.
Reply

No problem sir. You can replay any of the training as much as you need to just to get things right. Or you can go to your Jaaxy account, click on "Affiliate Program" in the top right. Look for "Links & Tracking", here you will find your Jaaxy promo links.

I can't follow the training tape because it goes way too fast. I don't know the specific details of anything. The tape is no good. It needs to go much much slower and provide specific details one at a time. It runs everything together.

I'm running into some thorny problems because of the webhost switch. Google keeps going to the wrong webhost looking for the domain. For some reason GT Metrix is going to the right place. Earlier today I could log into my site and access my webmail. Now I can't do either one. Whois correctly gives the current webhost but everything is screwed up on the internet searches for cloverchess.com. In some parts of the country there is no problem. In other parts of the country you get 404 error messages because the search engines are going to the old webhost looking for the site.

The upcoming lessons in course 2 don't appear to say anything about
the exact details of setting up a website to sell specific Amazon products. There's a heavy focus on getting better search engine rankings and making the landing page more appealing, but I have nothing unless the webpages actually sell the products and the correct system is in place to take orders for the products.
I previously created a functional system to sell small homemade booklets I created using WooCommerce and Nice PayPal Button Lite on a completely unrelated site that has nothing to do with Wealthy Affiliate. I had to pay someone in the beginning because I did not know the exact details of setting it up. Same situation. I need to know the exact details of what will need to be done to sell Amazon products on a website and how I collect the money when stuff sells.

Where did you buy your domain, Kelly? Did you put WA as your host? If you did then it shouldn't be a problem. I used to have the error message and here's what I did:

I don't know what to do. The system will no longer allow me to log in without sending me to the actual WP screen. No matter what I type in it automatically says it's wrong. I'm finding several things I dislike about this company. You cannot get technical issues resolved by calling a phone number. There is no control panel. Sometimes it's completely impossible to get past a technical problem other than to go into a control panel and delete some bad programs or whatever you have to do.
Reply

Your best bet would be to send a support ticket to Kyle or Carson so that they can help you out on this. I'm so sorry you have to go through this hassle.

I finally got in. Everything here is set up very differently from a conventional webhost. I have a definite idea of what I'd like to accomplish here but nothing is the way it us with other webhosts. I face higher fees for webhosting here. There is no control panel. If you get locked out of the Wordpress login or the website crashes you can't get past it by going to a control panel. No phone number to call technical support. Of course they have training programs that are not available elsewhere. As far as the training goes what I want to see is something that tells me exactly how to set up with Amazon to sell their products online. I don't yet have a clear understanding of exactly what I need to do or whether what I have in mind will actually work.

Right now I'm focused on the mechanics of setting up something very specific. One of the websites I set up is designed to create a chess store possibly selling thru the Amazon Associates Program. I don't know all the specific details of exactly what all I would need to do. I am also wondering if I am limited to domains that have the ,siterubix.com extension and whether the domains created here must stay here permanently or whether they can be transferred at a later stage to another webhost. I made the discovery that the IP GEO BLOCK plugin does not work properly at cloverchess.siterubix.com. I used it at Inmotion Hosting because numerous attempts were being made to
hack the websites I have over there.
