Good morning WA family,

Hmmm.. Do you mean the thing at the bottom of a page or post that counts the number of visitors that go to the page or post?

A count-up plugin? You mean a plugin that will count up to a certain number or time?

Just run a search for "timer" plugin or something & then check the plugin reviews to see what peopel say about it :)

Does anyone know of a good count-up plugin?

I know it's a little early, but I'm trying to prepare for the Black Friday deals on my various social media accounts and would like to incorporate the new banners into my conte

Hey Shawn,

In case you missed Barb's blog today: she has shared the location.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Trish,
Thanks for the update!
Regards,
Shawn

What is Black Friday referred to? Is it for something on sale or stock crash? I just want to learn. Please elaborate it; thank you.

James,

Black friday is the First day of the Xmas shopping’s, and there are a lot of special offers. :)

Thanks-a-million! I would remember forever.

James

You're most welcome!

On the basis of the 19th last year, I would expect it to come out on the 18th this year based on date alignment!

Thanks for the update Michael!

It's only an assumption at the moment based on the previous 2/3 years, so it won't be common knowledge until Kyle/Carson decide on this year's outcome. Going by previous years it is normally a week or so before.

I appreciate the update Gordon, thanks very much!

When Kyle has released his blog about it, I expect it about a week before BF, last year it was on the 19th

Thanks very much for the update Loes!

If you login to your website and are in the process of updating a page or post, what does a user see if these visit your website at the same time? Do they see the page with you

Visitors only see what's published. This is the importance of placing a construction plugin.

The fact that visitors can only see what's been published is the reason that you don't need an "Under Construction" plugin or page while you're performing edits on your pages. (Until you've published the updated page, there is no possibility that a visitor will see it.)

Thanks again Bob for the clarification!

Thanks Linda! I think Bob has explained things very well below.

good post good question

Thanks Abdulrahman!

Something I was curious about also. Good question, good answers.

Thanks Elroy, I figured if I was thinking about it, someone else must have been thinking about it as well.

Your visitor won't see anything you're working on or updating until you actually publish that page or post.

Thanks Mary!

What you have is what you get until new publishing overwrites it!

Thanks Michael!

Until you publish the page, visitors will see the most recently published version of the page that you're working on. The wordpress database (which contains the content they see) will not get updated until you hit the "Publish" button for that page.

Thanks Bob!
If my page was already published, let's say last week, and I updated it yesterday, would the visitor see my page while I'm still updating it with the login information at the top right hand side?
Thanks again.
Shawn

Sorry, I may have misunderstood -- If you updated the page yesterday and published that version, that will be the current version and any changes you made last week will have been replaced with yesterday's version.
-----------------------------
Your visitors will see the 'old' page (the most recently published version) whether or not you're logged in until you publish the new version.

Pages are always rendered from the published content as it's stored in the wordpress database. Editing and saving drafts don't impact that older version of a page. When you hit the "Publish" button, the database will be updated to the new version and any later visitors to the page will see your new, updated version. (As far as I can tell, a visitor who happens to be on a page while you update it will only see the change if they perform a browser refresh. I'm not 100% sure on that though.)

Thanks again Bob! That makes sense. On other applications I've worked on, we had a maintenance page that would be displayed if we were doing an application update, so I wasn't sure if wordpress did something similar.
Regards,
Shawn

Your visitors deal with the 'front end' of wordpress while you're working in the 'back end'. The two sides actually operate independently of each other.

An application update is a bit different in that user actions, if performed during the update process, would affect transactions in the application's database. Using an application while it's having an update implemented could throw everything into chaos. Since the wordpress database is read-only for your users, your visitors don't need to be locked out while you're doing updates. That 'disconnect' between the user side and the developer side just isn't there for (many/most?) applications.

I appreciate your further clarification Bob, thanks very much!
