About Compsol99
Joined January 2016
Hi everyone!
My name is Shawn, I am now 57 years of age and my family and I live in Ottawa, Canada.

I joined the Wealthy Affiliate community in January 2016 when I was 56 years young. Over the years, I have looked at various ways to supplement my income, including different MLM companies. Nothing ever came of those and then I came across the Wealthy Affiliate program. I have to admit, I was both skeptical and intrigued at the same time, given my previous history. I did a lot of research (mainly looking for negative reviews), and to my surprise, didn't find any!!!!

I am looking to retire in the next year and in between the golf course and my family, I thought this would be a great opportunity to meet new people and learn about affiliate marketing and hopefully add to my retirement income in the process.

All the best to you!

Shawn

Hi! Shawn,

Great to hear you stick with WA & its community. Would you please tell me what has been your progress in money-making as well as mental ups and downs over the past 2 years pertaining to by following the concept and practice as taught in the WA. This Q is not to offend or embarrass you, but to acquire some encouragement and lesson in the course of affiliate marketing. I am a Premium newbie of less than 2 weeks. I need to learn more from others like you.

Best wish to your success,

Hi Chin-ti,

Nice to meet you! I have been with WA for about 21 months now. I have made some money with premium referrals as well as using Adsense on one of my sites. i have also had a few sales through Amazon affiliates but certainly not enough to retire on. But I have learned a lot through the training here at WA. I guess for me, the toughest part has been practicing patience. I have gotten frustrated at times because I didn't think things were happening fast enough and I have to keep reminding myself that "Rome wasn't built in a day" and to be patient.

Congratulations on becoming a premium member Chin-ti! Continue to follow the training and ask lots of questions. The WA community is very helpful!

I hope this helps!

Best of luck in all your endeavors.

Shawn

Hello Shawn, I see you have great pages and guess you are already making some money, I have been studying for over a month and already have 2 websites, not getting any money in yet. One of my pages is to promote WA, timetomakemoremoney.com, on this page I really dont know how active I have to be, or this should be a very stationary page, how do I promote it.
my other page is wildpackrunnner.com, I am treating this more as a blog page to talk about my life and running experiences and promote some running products, if you can take a look and advise on how to get traffic this would be great.
thanks and have a wonderful day.

Hi Miguel. Wow, 2 sites in just over a month! That's pretty impressive. I've taken a look at both of your sites and they're looking pretty good!
Are far as traffic for your sites goes, are you promoting them on various social media accounts such as Facebook, Google+, StumbleUpon, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram? Because your sites are so new, it's going to take some time for traffic, but if you keep adding new content to your sites and post to your social media accounts, you're traffic will start to increase.
Best of luck in all your endeavors.

Well Shawn,
Good morning first of all !
I followed your recommendation, went on your websites to see what WA can make out of one and..... I am impressed ..... and also under the ground ! There are centuries between your skills and mine, I could throw my website right away in the trash, I will never get the curve. Bad morning for me.....
But my compliment, you made a really good job.

Good morning Anne! I know that it can seem intimidating at first but if you follow the first few training lessons, you can get your website up and running. The images and colors can be added later. I do have an advantage over many people, I guess, because I do have a programming background but the beauty of these themes, is that you don't have to know how to program. It does all the work for you behind the scenes. I would be happy to try and help you. What is the name of your website and I'll take a look at it for you and offer some suggestions.
Hope you have a better morning/afternoon.

Thanks for following Shawn. I lived in Ottawa for a few months before immigrating to the US. Loved the city but boy in the winter is it ever cold, one day could not go out because of the chill factor. In Arizona, we have the opposite, 115-degree temperature yesterday. Just starting out with WA cannot give you any advice, but good luck!

My pleasure Pauline! I'm getting to the point that I don't like the winters here either. Thankfully, my wife and I have been spending a couple of weeks each year (usually in late February or early March) down in Florida. That way it breaks up the winter for us. On the other hand, I don't think I could live in Arizona with those types of temperatures!!! Way too hot for my liking!
Best of luck in all your endeavors.

Hi Shawn,
I went to 3 of your sites and like how clean they look and how clear the message of what you are promoting is! Very easy to navigate and I was also very intrigued to see how many people actually take the time and respond in the comment section! This was the first time I had viewed another members site and it was impressive and also very helpful to me as a newbie!! :)

In the future I may come back and view some of your training's!

I am a newbie Shawn. I am struggling to get my first website set up, afraid of doing something wrong, knowing that fear of mistakes will hold one back every time. Welcome to WA Brenda! I'm also afraid of making mistakes, but if you follow the training one lesson at a time, you'll get the hang of it. And besides, if you make a mistake, it's usually very easy to go back and fix it. Most of the time, you'll be the only one who knows, lol!!!

Thank You so much for adding me to your “Following”!!!

I had to retire in 2011 at 53..... Not the way I had planned. Like you I wanted to retire and play golf & stuff. But that wasn't in the cards I was dealt!!! ;-)

I have seen a lot of internet programs over the last 4 years and this looks and feels right!!!

I would greatly appreciate it if you would please let me know if there are any important tips that you think a “Newbie” like I am to WA can benefit from!!!

Best Wishes for Your Continued Success!!!

Hi Kevin!

Nice to meet you and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

Like you I also have seen many different programs over the years, all promising the moon and the stars, only to see my bank account dwindle with nothing to show for it. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find reasons not to join WA, but couldn't find anything negative!

I would recommend that you go over the training from top to bottom. I made the mistake of skipping from one section to another, partly because I come from an IT background as well as web development. I soon realized I needed to go back over material to understand it better.

One other thing I would suggest is to only work on one website at a time and don't spread yourself too thin. I created 4 websites all within about 6 months and found that I didn't have enough time to constantly create new content for each site.

I hope I have been of some help to you, but let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Have a great weekend!

I suppose it can make a difference when writing blogs as all your followers will see them, or creating training, etc. You will get an awful lot of emails, just warning you!

Hi Shawn,

I checked your website. here is what I like about it.
I like the startup page, you definitely want to click start.
I like that it is to the point and very honest.
it naturally goes to video.

It is just me, but in the section you explain the Niche, where are educating people, as a customer I do not like direct advertising in the first sentence as I would not trust the content when it is advertising. So I would not start with according to Kyle.
I think it can put people off, but then again it is just my opinion.

Let them enjoy being educated without obligation first.

as a whole I like it a lot. well done.

Yes, I am somewhat technical. When you added your amazon affiliate link into your page/post, did you do it in text mode or visual mode? In order for the link to work you have to add the code when your page/post is in text mode, otherwise it won't work. Then make sure to save your page/post. That's great that someone wants to buy what you reviewed. Congratulations!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Niel,
I would suggest that you just start out with the first set of trainings and if you have decided on a niche and/or a domain name, then you can begin to create your About Me and Privacy Policy pages. You can copy the content of my Privacy Policy page from anyone of my websites (just make sure to change all references of my website to yours). That will be a good start for you and then you can start to create new pages and your site will continue to grow.
Hope this helps!

My months away from WA has affected my rankings and everything else, obvious from the lack of new content on my websites. Also, my non-interaction with other members here. I have just one word...Wow! I took a sneak peak at your websites, I am just amazed. Everything is crystal clear and easy to navigate, but most importantly, they are bursting with information. I hope one day I can follow in your examples and be successful. To be honest, when I first saw your websites, I was kind of nervous because I kept thinking to myself "How am I ever going to do this?" I am a new premium member on WA, having joined only a few days ago, and I don't have all of the training down yet. However, after really navigating your sites and seeing the content that you present, it gave me motivation to just keep trying and not give up. If I can present a website even half as amazing as yours, I would be happy. Slowly, as I go through the training on WA (which is more than helpful, by the way), I know I can be as successful as you. Anyways, sorry I'm making you read a ton, but just wanted to thank you for inspiration.

Shawn, thanks for following me. Nice to see another Canadian who is close to my age here. We share a heck of a lot in common. I've tried various MLMs and nothing really came of them. I've dabbled in some party-plan direct sales opportunities, which I enjoyed more than straight MLM, but I want more freedom than you can have by building and coaching a team.

And I, too, am looking to retire next year. My sister-in-law lives in Ottawa, so if I'm ever out that way, maybe I'll show up on your doorstep! :)

Thanks for the following. I am following you as well. You have certainly picked the right opportunity to enter upon retirement. You will be amazed and perplexed, simultaneously. However, don't get down on yourself. Keep on learning, plugging away and eventually, you will begin reaping benefits. Be blessed in all you do. Peace.

Hi Shawn,
Aside from the founders and a chap called Pribs, you are my first deliberate follow. Your enormous 'followship' caught my eye, so I thought I might have some of the magic rub off on me!
I'm from South Africa. I have a peculiar situation, which necessitates that I make a success of this, so I need to gravitate to where success appears to be.

Hello Shawn, I am following you and also proud to have you in my network as well! It appears that you have been very busy on your sites, which I find very impressive! I myself am not very computer savvy, so in turn my progress has been somewhat slower in comparison. But I would like to think that I've still made a fairly good site, but I guess time will tell. I wish you all the best in your upcoming retirement and success as well!..Bob

Hi Bob,
Nice to meet you! I am happy to be in your network. Thankfully, my career has allowed me to be somewhat computer savvy, so creating my websites might have been a little easier for me compared to others. However, I didn't know wordpress before starting out with WA but now I find it so much easier to create websites. Just choose a nice theme and you're half way there. I wish you much success in all your endeavors and let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Hey Shawn, your trainings and websites all look great, I'll come back and go through some of them as soon as I finish my WA training. Often my attention jumps from one thing to the other and I end up in chaos, with no visible results. Here, at WA, I'm trying to avoid that and really dive into the content.
But I won't forget about your programs!
Take care, be well

It looks like you are getting lots of feedback from your articles which shows you have great content.

Shawn...

I am so rattled and confused, I have to get off of here for a while. I still can not get the images to work, or put my photo on my pages.

The wording on my pages is not in a full line and I don't know what caused this.

Do I have to have an account with Gravator for my photo image?

I am also having trouble with changing the admin name.

What about comments on other peoples sites. Do I just pull up anybodies and make a comment?

No hurry on this, I'm sure I will have more questions later.

Hi Shawn,

I like the beginning of your statement.

Well said.

From all my researches on personal development, I learned that we need to act based on our thoughts and perfect self expression.

Regarding WA community, we share the same thought.

I am very optimistic about the system in place.

It is simply success conducive if applied properly.

I wish you more success in your journey and thank you for your willingness to assist those of us who have recently joined the community.

What I meant was, if say for instance I am marketing Toshiba laptop for Toshiba and Samsung laptop for Samsung.

Want there be discomfort between Toshiba and Samsung having their products promoted on the same website?

Thanks

Thanks for clarifying Yonas.

I wouldn't think there would be any problem. You're simply marketing two different brands of laptops on the same website. If your niche is laptops, then it makes sense to do it that way. I do the same thing with my sleep apnea website. I have different brands of CPAP masks and machines. I think the companies are just happy that you're advertising their products on your site

Hope this helps.

It does help.

My understanding was that we as marketing affiliates, are obliged to stay loyal to one service provider per promoted product.

It is very clear now.

Once I start building my website, I am gonna need your help in terms of technical knowledge on how to set up a system of feedback mechanism and all that is necessary to have an efficient structure.

Thanks again.

Hi Shawn
I've tried very very hard and invested in short term trading and multilevel.
My conclusion: You can be in the top 10 percent in trading and yet cannot be consistent in short term trading. You have to be in the top 5 percent with huge financial backing. And you can still blow up.
Multi level is designed to take money from 90% of all involved and transfer the money to about 5%. I'm a Chartered Accountant and I know my numbers and am articulate.
So far I see that WA gives more than value for money in training. It's worth a lot more in helpfulness and community
Hope to know you better

Greetings. I just visited your Boost Your Retirement website - WOW!!! Very polished and informative. Some sites that pertain to finances, can feel a bit detached, but yours feels very personal and warm.

One question: Before you give the details about the benefits of WA, you mentioned that it's "FREE". I became a Premium member, about 5 days after I joined. But had I not become a Premium member, wouldn't it have cost me a monthly fee anyway? Or is it that I could have stayed at that particular status, without paying a monthly fee, but my access to the training would be limited? I'm not second guessing my decision by any means; I knew after the 1st day, that I would be switching to Premium. I'm just trying to get clarity from what you stated in your site.

I'll be honest, after looking at your site, I though, "How in the heck am I going to be able to do that?!" I know..I know...training. I also know you're an IT professional, I am not. To compare what I think I can do, to what you CAN do, is just time wasted on my part.

Thanks for inviting me into "your world" Shawn.

My wish for you is that your retirement comes quickly....the beautiful golf courses around the world await!

Hi Veronica,
Nice to meet you and thanks for taking the time to look at my retirement income website! If you didn't upgrade to a premium membership, your access to help and training would have stopped after lesson 1, but you wouldn't have to pay a monthly fee.
Yes, I do have an IT background, but I have only been working on websites for about 4 years, but I wasn't using Wordpress to do them before. I think a lot of what makes your website is the theme you choose. I really like the Sydney theme that I used for my retirement income website. I think it makes the site look so professional. I think you'll be able to do the same. It's just a matter of learning the basics of Wordpress and making use of images throughout your site. I'll be happy to help you with any questions you may have. I'm sure that in no time, you'll be able to have a professional looking site up and running. Please feel free to use my sites as a starting point for yours if you wish.
Have a great day!

I saw your sleep apnea site. I had sleep apnea for a while, and I used a cPAP for about 6 months, but I had trouble getting used to it. After a while I kept removing the mask and just slept without it. I lost some weight, which helped. Now I am completely off cPAP! yay!

Hi Karin!
I've heard that from some people that they just can't get used to wearing a CPAP mask. I've been fortunate, I guess, in that I felt comfortable with it from day 1 and it's been over a year now since I've been using one. I must admit, if I was able to lose some weight it would make it easier for me. I'm glad to hear you're completely off the CPAP machine!

Dear Compsol99, I know what it is like to look for an income to supplement retirement. I have looked at various avenues and many sites are run by conmen. I even contacted type at home.
It did not work. It is hard to find work from home jobs that will bring you an income. Did you try the Drexel Code?

Hey my names Brandon I will be attending college in less then a month. Im looking forward to continuing to develop my website part time through college and hopefully make some more sites. I am in the preliminary stages of making my site. My websites up and running with content, once I get enough traffic I want to be able to sell gym products off my site through affiliate websites. Right now I am stuck on getting traffic to my site and getting it ranked in google. Is there any advice you can give me specifically on how to build better content directly about my niche and website. Im really trying hard to get with website off and running and know it will take time! this is my website:

Hi Brandon,
Have you installed one of the social media plugins on your site? The one I use is called Sociable. Once you activate that plugin, you can specify which media sites you want. Then you need to share each of your pages/posts with each social media account. Doing this will increase the traffic to your site. You also want to request comments or feedback from other WA members. This will definitely help with the Google ranking. Finally, just keep adding content to your pages. Google likes it when your pages keep getting fresh new content.
Hope this helps!

You have such nice websites. Maybe you could help me, I cannot find an answer for this anywhere. I did my privacy policy page. On the draft, it looks great, but on my real website, the right margin of the privacy policy covers up recent comments, archives and categories. Thank you. Is there a way to make the right margin shorter?

Hey Shawn,

I am appreciative that you followed me so early, even though I was & still am this humble rookie getting to try my way through this Online Marketing Discipline which is really a bit out of my regular pathways. Fortunately, I am learning quite a ton already, as I am dedicated to continue doing so, thanks to Kyle's obvious natural gifts in how he dispenses these courses. My biggest challenges are time availability pressures. The WA community is awesome & supportive. I love it & am mighty grateful relative to every ones helpful disposition.

Your being there available with assistance assures me that I am on the right course, should I run into some kind of jams. Which I am pretty sure I will, given my rookie level in this endeavor.

Hi Shawn,

I visited your web sites on sleep apnea and retirement income. Man, outstanding job on both of them. They each have a professional look, with a personal touch. Your writing makes it sound as if there is an actual human being on the other end of the screen, and you take the time to interact with your site visitors. And you're very above-board on the affiliate side of your sites, which I think adds to the sense of trustworthiness. I hope they both do well for you, as they look great to me!

Hey Shawn, just finished visiting your site on sleep apnea. Man it is really good. Very informative. One of the things I liked was not only did you suggest a sleep study but you also explain what to expect when having one. In this way people are not in the dark about it and they are more likely to have it done since you informed them how it is done. The part on truck drivers was scary but true. You really put a lot of thought and research into your site. I noticed all the comments from those who visited were very positive. It appears that you took your time, did the home work and held nothing back. Loved it Shawn. I hope I can get to where you are with my sites.

Also, thank you for your input about my site. Yes, I did not know how to change the font size and I agree that it is too small. Also, how do you add a picture below the title, every time I add a picture it covers my title. I notice that in some of your font you changed the color too. I have no idea how to do those things. Yeah, I knew about the link, I wasn't ready to add it just yet. I wasn't sure if I wanted to take people directly to WA or to another site that talks about WA and then link them to it. I had decided though to keep everything in one site.

Thanks again and great job,

Rob
