Why I am a huge fan of LSI Keywords
LSI Keywords
LSI keywords should be the final stage in keyword research and it’s something that’s actually overlooked by most people who are building websites in particularly, when building in AdSense websites.
Now, LSI is a very interesting thing. Basically, all we’re doing is providing content on our page that Google is looking for and Google wants to see. Now, when somebody searches for something in Google, something like, let’s say “campervan,” or rather when Google is putting its index together for the search term campervan, how does it decide which websites are most relevant. How does it know which websites should be on the front page of Google? Now, obviously there’s lots and lots of determining factors, but one of the big determining factors is LSI Keywords.
These are in effect related keywords. What Google does is, if it’s indexing a webpage for the search term “campervan,” it will look for other search terms surrounding the keyword that it thinks should be there. So if you like, related keywords; single words that should be on the page, search phrases that should be on the page. It compares these to lots of other websites on the internet and it kind of comes up with its own kind of algorithm to index all of this.
So we need to make sure that we’ve got these correctly related keywords actually on our WebPages. Traditionally, LSI Keyword tools like this used to cost quite a lot of money, but I’ve actually found this one quite recently on the internet and the great thing is, it’s 100 percent free; LSIKeywords.com, 100 percent free to use.
All we need to do is type in our main keyword. I’m going to use camper van again, and we can search – it says here the top five. You can do top 10 if you want, or you can to leave it to top five. What this is going to do is analyze the top five search results in Google. I’m going to put it to 10, so the top 10 search results in Google for the search term “camper van.” It’s going to analyze all of the web pages in that top 10 and then bring back related keywords. So all the keywords, which are related to camper van. You can exclude short words with less than two or three letters, if you want and you can also exclude words that you already have, so you could put those in here if you wanted to.
So, we just click submit. It’s going to go away and analyze the top 10 listings in Google for the search term “camper van.” So, it’s brought back these search results and it’s come back with lots of one-word phrases,
two-word phrases, and three-word phrases. These are the phrases that Google would like to actually see on your page. Obviously, you’re not going to use all of these phrases, but what you can do is go through this long, long, list here and start picking out words which you think are related to camper van and stick those into a swipe file.
So, I’d create another document within Evernote, another note called LSI Keywords for camper van. We can see here we’ve got camper van, rentals, travel, camping... Obviously you wouldn’t use all of these. You would just use the ones you think are most related to what you’re talking about.
So we’ve got two-word phrases here, motor home camper van, campervan rentals, Toyota campervans, and all sorts of things here. Then we’ve got three-word phrases on the right. Then again, we just take out the three-word phrases we think would be most related.
When I’m creating my content if I’m creating say a 700-800 word article, I’d be looking for four or five one-word, two or three two-words and maybe one or two three-word phrases to try and incorporate into my article. Obviously, if my keyword which I was writing my article on was say campervan security, I might put in car security, campervan security, or just automobile security, or something related to that; do a search and then just pick out these LSI Keywords for your particular article whatever keyword you’re using for your article. So that’s LSI Keyword, really under looked, but very, very powerful tool.
One of the great things about LSI Keywords is, like I was saying earlier, you may be writing an article on something that’s hugely competitive, so let’s say something like campervan rentals, that pays really, really well, plus it gets huge search volumes, but the competition is massive. We’ll probably never actually get a rank on the front page of Google for campervan rentals; however, when we start incorporating some of the LSI Keywords into our article, what will actually happen is, we’ll start getting traffic from Google to that page for some of these LSI Keywords and variations of these LSI keywords. So phrases made up in our article that we never actually thought our article would actually rank for, but we start getting traffic to that page, and even though we’re not getting traffic for the main keyword.
We’re getting traffic from other sources other keywords, or sometimes our LSI keywords to that page. But we’re still getting really good returns on our investment because the main keyword was a high paying keyword.
And that’s why I love LSI Keywords because when you start incorporating these types of keywords into your articles, without really even doing any search engine optimization, what you can find is that your article or that page on your website will start to get traffic just naturally from the Google search.

Very helpful and so interesting, KatKat! BTW, what does LSI stand for? I'm interested to know. On my way now to check out the LSI website. Thanks so much. Great post!
KAT - disregard my Q About what it stands for. The website explained that it means "Latent Semantic Indexing." Made me laugh! Sounds kinda racist or some such...
Thank You for sharing. I will give it a try today. It will be interesting to see what I come up with.
Wow, just Wow.
Yes it did help me very much. Even though I already had most of them by using the alphabet soup approach, I have a few new ideas to toss around. Plus a new post in the works with one of the keywords I found.
Thank You so much for sharing.
I always forget to use this tool. I wasn't really sure how effective it was but it looks like it may be worth looking into again. Thanks for the post! :)
If I'm reading this right, you're saying to use your regular keyword or string as you normally would, but work a few of these LSI keywords into your content. Am I correct in my understanding?
Yes this is very useful especially when creating a site to make money from Adsense, and very important when you are targeting niches with high advertisement costs that is over $50 a click
