I don't want to use facebook!

So, I've been using Wealthy Affiliate for almost a month now to develop my website.

It took me a week or so to actually choose my niche and go with it. I've chosen travel blogging, but A-Z, from conception to reflection, just my entire experience.

This last week I found that I hadn't done that much with my site. I think this was to do with being stuck on Course 4 of the training here.

After my boyfriend and I broke up a month ago I finally took one of the biggest steps I could in my small life and deactivated my facebook...and I've never been happier!

I haven't even logged in once. It made me realise that that sort of social networking is just very poisonous to my mental health. All I end up doing is obsessing over other people's lives and comparing myself to others. There are no positive things that come out of me using facebook.

...but Kyle says that I really should...

I want to follow these courses down to the letter so that I can find financial freedom to live my life the way I want to...but right now i just CAN'T be on facebook...and I feel like the rest of my progress has stalled as well.

Can you still do this if you don't use facebook/twitter?

Is it possible?

I really hope the answer is yes because at least for now I feel that not being a part of social networking has been the key to my success and mental health so far.

Thanks for listening

Katia

Hi Katia. I can totaly understand your facebook problem. For me this is not a real human interaction and there is so much unnecessary and overwhelming information forced into your mind. I use it only in very rare occasions and gladly saw here that it is not a must thing in the IM business.
You have a lovely website. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Katia - I use Google+ quite a lot though it did take some getting used to. I joined a circle that was relative to my niche and now my posts go out to over 6000 people. One tip though is to engage with the circle first before you start to promote yourself. People will naturally follow you if you contribute. Good luck.

Thanks Gary and/or DaniellaRuth! :) I'm really working on getting a strong network on Google+ so thank you so much for the validation :) I'm very excited to keep continuing this journey without the pressure or drama of using facebook :)

Google+ is way better than Facebook. We haven't used FB for years and plan to never go back. We do find value in G+ however and I think it will bring value to our business once we're running with it full speed ahead. It's OK to live your life Facebook/drama free.

Good for you! I don't like facebook, and made the decision to not use it years ago, even though "gurus" told me I had to. Almost 3 years marketing full time and I laugh at that idea. You don't have to use facebook to be successful!!!

Hi Dan, thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm glad you stuck to your gut and have found success doing what's right for you! Thanks again, so much :)

always go with your heart and you will succeed all the best

Thank you Max, I think I'm making this decision but it's really wonderful that this community reaches out to other members like me that are facing uncertainty with even the most trivial of issues. Thanks again :)

Of course you can still do this without facebook. If you still want to use some form of social media, you can set up a google plus account.

Hi Rob, thank you! I am pretty active on Google Plus actually so I might just stick to that for now!

Don't use it then. Honestly, you don't need facebook to be successful online and you can definitely just use it to "share" your posts through a new account if you want to do that.

The problem I see with Facebook is more on the side of people using it too much and wasting too much time there. Your time is best spent building out your website and engaging in conversation within your actual pages/posts on your website.

Don't panic if Facebook is not your thing, that is fine.

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for replying to this, to be honest I wasn't expecting it. I guess I know everything everyone is telling me here on my blog and I know that very soon I'm sure I'll be able to use facebook again to my advantage on my own terms but knowing that not using it isn't stopping my progress is really what I needed to hear to move forward.

Thank you again :)

At your own pace, honestly you don't need it at all to create a full time business but as you move it forward it may be something that you want to learn and add as a small component of your business.

When getting rolling though don't let it distract you. :)

Hi! I agree that Facebook is a very important source of traffic but it's not the only one. I believe it's more important if you feel comfortable with the things you're doing instead what supposed you "must" do it. If Facebook brings a negative state of mind, don't do it. You can bring traffic to your website by SEO, Pinterest, Forums, email marketing, etc. Use facebook when you're ready... maybe you can ask a really good friend that do it for you. Keep going!

Hello! Thank you for the support. I know I'll be able to use it eventually but for now I guess I just need to pursue the other paths. That's a really good idea getting a friend to do it for me though, i hadn't thought about that! Thank you again for the kind words :)

Hugs to you Katia for being strong. You can treat FB as a channel to announce your new post. Just remember not to dab on senseless surfing and updating of other peoples post.

Thank you so much Cathy. I think I'll get there eventually but for now facebook would do me more harm than good. I'll get there though! :)
