do I need to transfer domain when I leave WA?
If you want to keep your website after leaving WA you would need to transfer to a new host. The hosting at WA is part of your membership fee.
thank you for your reply - I have a paid domain with WA purchased in April 2017 - will I need to transfer domain name once I've left WA or do I wait till April 2018 - renewal date and than do it - I understand hosting is a separate thin and I need to move it to another registrar and I have 30 days after I leave - correct me if I'm wrong :) . thank you in advance
I haven't looked into it enough to know the time window allowed. You would have to ask someone else about that. Maybe shoot a message to Kyle, or put up a question.

You do not need to transfer the Domain registration.
It's only your website that you have to move in 30 days.
Ask SiteSupport to give you the login details for your domain account.
Simply log in to your WA SiteDomain account when you wish to change the DNS address to point your domain to your new website host, or to renew the domain.
If you decide to transfer your domain, that's okay too. Your new registrar will require you to pay at least one year upfront and they will extend the expiry date by adding the remaining time left on your existing registration.

I am developing a 'funky gift ideas' website that is mainly pictures + short description of the products containing links to Amazon , Etsy and other affiliate prog
Not sure how does it works for SEO if your description is too short. Generally having some long articles here and there can be beneficial too.
