I have to wear pants

After spending the past few days wearing mostly my pajamas (because I had four days off from work), I came to a realization: If I want to get any work done at home on my website, I have to get dressed! In other words, I have to wear pants. (Although I suppose a dress or skirt would work, too!)

The idea of working at home in my pajamas is awesome—the idea of freedom. But without the "necessary" attire, I find that my motivation takes a "vacation", too!

Does anyone else find this to be true? Or am I just being weird from the ingrained day-to-day habit having taken over my mind?

I guess in my mind, pajamas means laid back and lazy and pants means work and productivity.

I don't know for sure, but I do know that for now, I have to wear pants if I want to get any work done!

Speaking of getting work done—I have been putting in the effort on my diabetes website and I am feeling pretty good about it.

Does anyone else notice this though—if you write a post about something like weight loss or whatever—your friends offer all kinds of advice?

I just received a HUGE text message from a friend telling me what I should be doing. I want to ask if she understands the concept of a blog...

I know she means well and I love her for wanting to help and I guess I should be grateful to know that she is reading my stuff. But sometimes doesn't it feel like people think we don't know what we're talking about?

I have spent years reading and researching diabetes and feel I have a pretty good grasp of it...

Anyway, sorry, just a little "rant" there at the end! Back to the work! Now where are my pants?!

Best wishes for a productive day!
Karin :)

You are absolutely right being dressed properly makes an impression on the brain.

I have a client that works from home and he gets dressed fully as if he is in an office. It is a brain thing for him too. Even slippers will not do.

Good work Karin

Cheers Jae

LOL! Funny, Jae, I was just saying to CEllison2 above that I had to even have real shoes on! It's a brain things—a conditioned thing.

I'll have to slowly introduce items of non-work clothing to get myself used to it!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Thanks Karin

You're welcome, Michael!
Hope all is going well for you!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Hi, Karin I just want to tell that without offending you or disrespecting you in any way because that is not my intention but what I wanted to tell you is I work in my pajamas and I wear skirts and dresses to work in.

But there are days that I just don't feel like getting dress at times. I
can understand what you are speaking of though and that is great for you and I think that is awesome.

I think that is great that you get dress for work that is really cool and I can respect that and I respect you.

I think that we can be pretty good friends and best wishes on your journey with WA.

Mary

Thanks, Mary! I take no offense. :)
I think every person has to decide what works best for them and then go with it.
I think we can be pretty good friends too!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

You are so very welcome it was my pleasure and you are right it is up to the person themselves whatever makes them comfortable I guess.

Best wishes my friend
Mary

That's funny....I too need to establish a routine and getting dressed is part of it...Darn!
I had a "friend" write a whole blog for me as an example of what and how I should be writing. Of course it has absolutely nothing to do with my website! I thanked her and hit the delete button!
Debbie

Thanks for sharing that, Debbie.
It is hard when "friends" try to "help" us. I'm sure they are well-intentioned, but the fact that they really don't understand what we are doing... well, you get it!

Have a great day!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

i agree Karin...

getting dressed for the day "conditions" my brain for productivity. also when i get distracted and need to leave as to stay productive, i'll be ready to just pick up and go. ;)

not to mention society frowns upon one being out in public in one's underwear....... LOL!

cheers!

I find that working from home is I still need a routine. Getting dressing and cleaned up is the first part of that. If I don't, I tend to be lazy.

When I first started freelancing, I had to leave the house. I could work from the library or Starbucks or a table in a park but not at home. It got a bit better with time but if I'm using chores or the dogs to procrastinate, I still go out.

i'm the same way!

i am much better at working from home during a dedicated time as if i were at an office. but if i find myself getting distracted... i gather up my laptop and leave! sometimes the change of scenery refreshes my memory and gives my a different perspective on whatever task i'm working on. interacting with other humans doesn't hurt either... LOL!

cheers!
jeff

Hahaha...Karin yes, to dress in outfits to fit the "mission" is correct in my opinion. For me, being the comforts of home environment has it's distractions. I for one go to Starbucks and work on my website with my coffee. Kind of expensive but I do it for I know at times I will turn that bloody TV on much on them potato chips, etc.

And off to sleep on the sofa....not good Karin.

Coming ahead of me is my mandatory annual leave, I am fortunate
to have this benefit. I am seriously looking at using that time to work on my website. Wish me luck, as long as I find it exciting and fun I will hopefully make some head way.

Karin in 2 days I will get a shoulder surgery. OUCH! Actually I'm looking forward to it so that'll be included in my mission to create another website. I will try stay away from comments asked her on WA so don't be surprised if you don't see me for a while...maybe.

But yes Karin, I feel we must dress the part for feeling like you're in your WA office. This way I believe you will be more focused. Explain to family why you have to do this, they'll, I think will understand.

Goodluck Karin!

frank

Thank you, Frank and good luck with your shoulder surgery! I wish you a quick recovery! I will miss your comments!

Best wishes, my friend!
Karin :)

Thank you! Talk later my friend! Off to work. Got to beat the traffice. My wife and I leave at 4am in the morning.. Oahu have bad traffic. Here, "EARLY BIRD BEATS THE TRAFFIC!" hee hee

Take care Karin!

Frank

LOL on pants! I have found this to be so true!
I have to make my WA work, work. That means get up, get ready, dress, and then type!
If I don't... I stare at my screen and drift.
Shaunna

Yep, same here. Or I go to another website and play games! Ugh. So the pants are a necessary "evil." :)

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Patterned effort is essential to bring authority into work at home!

Agreed, Mike! I think it will be a long while before I can work from home in my pajamas!

Best wishes,
Karin :)
