I wanted to get opinions about editing posts that have already been indexed by google.

I'm not talking about changing the title or keywords; but maybe adding a paragraph

Thanks for asking this question Jeff. I did cross my mind too. With my 2 cent knowledge I think maybe if the changes do not affect keywords, it won't hurt.

I would tend to agree Maggie. Thank you for your reply. It is much appreciated!
Cheers!

Hi Jeff, I recently spent 2-3 months updating my old posts to make them better for SEO. It is worth it, they are ranking better and my traffic has increased.

Awesome Jenny! That is good news.
Thank you so much for answering my question.

cheers!

Hi Jeff,

I have just been using Yoast to polish my posts, I'm glad I did as there were lots of mistakes, missing links etc. I felt it was more important that the content read well and kept readers on my pages for longer.

After editing I went into Google console and pasted each URL into the checkbox and sometimes Google couldn't find the link and it was probably like this before I edited. So I clicked find URL and it always did and it would show if it was indexed. Some were, some weren't. I would ask for indexing if not.

It also showed any problems like not mobile friendly etc. I had to reduce a picture and change text to fix it. I wouldn't have known if I'd not checked on Google Console and it would never had been indexed. Just a thought.

So long answer short, editing didn't change the indexed ones and I now know Google will find my other posts. If I did change the heading, I also changed the permalink below it in wordpress.

Hope this helps
Have a lovely productive day

I would also like to know, but my gut feeling is that minor changes, those not in title and SEO, should be ok.

That's my gut feeling also Dave. Just me wondering out loud mostly....

thank you for replying!

For about search engines, think about your visitors. Will your changes enhance their experience? If so, do it... If not - don't do it. Always put your visitors first, not the search engines & then the search rankings will take care of themselves :)

Good advice Dale!

For those of you using All in One SEO Pack:

Do you add keywords for each individual post?

Or do you let the keywords in your content do the talking?

Thank you

Hi Jeff,

I put low hanging keywords in my title after checking them in jaaxy and in google search. I then make sure I use them in the first paragraph.

Do you have Yoast on your website?

Lily 😊

I do not have Yoast. I’ve been looking into that. I only have All-in-one SEO since it came pre-installed. Wasn’t sure if having Yoast and All-in-One SEO would be redundant.

Do use both? Or do you use Yoast instead of All-in-One SEO?

I understand the use of keywords in my content. I’m still a little unclear how the SEO plugins compliment my content.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Yes I use both. I didn't know it existed and why it would really help me but my Coach Jake Cao very kindly fixed some issues on my website and loaded it.

Wow, it's awesome because after I publish my post it has these indicators to show the readability and SEO rating, with colors and comments.

First time it showed Orange and a readability of OK ( Ouch! gee thanks) but when I scrolled down to the bottom of the post it will list the problems and how to fix them until the light turns green.

Great learning tool.

Lily 😊

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me Lily!
Definitely sounds like a useful tool.

I appreciate you my friend.
cheers!

Hi Jeff
Each post contains one keyword in the title and also in the first paragraph that is relevant to the post

Do you use social media to promote your site?

If so, do you use plugins?

If you do, what is/are your favori

No problem at all, Jeff.

I'm using sassy social share. I've looked at a few others, but only use the plugin.

Thank you for your reply Palatia; I appreciate your input and your recommendation!

I use Ultimately Social. It has the most users, most frequently updated, and best reviews by far over the others. Search your new plugins under "social media" and you will see the ratings.
I have had zero problems with them.

Thank you for your reply and recommendation Mark. I appreciate it!

Hi Jeff,
I think in this day and age it is very important to promote your site using social media. Social media can bring tons of traffic to your site.
I am currently using a social media plugin called Social Snap lite. I like it because it is very fast and lightweight and doesn't slow down my site. I was using the social share plugin that was recommended in the training but found it really affected my site speed in a bad way!
There are many plugins to choose from, and you can see which one works best for you. Just be sure to test how the plugin affects your speed.

Take care,
Jenny.

Thank you Jenny for your reply!

I agree with you about using social media for promotion.
I also agree with you about site speed.

Thank you again for your reply and recommendation.

Cheers!
