Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. ~ Suzy Kassem

Please be forewarned, I predominately write what I hope are motivational blogs. If you are not interested in being motivated, then please, read no further.

But if you saw the title of this post and felt intrigued, by all means, please join me as we journey along the path to becoming doubt killers!

I believe we have doubts for a lot of reasons. Some reasons might be more valid than others, but they are ALL sources of doubt and must be dealt with. I see doubt as falling into one of these four categories:

  • We are human beings and it's in our nature
  • We were raised that way
  • We feel defeated because we've failed in the past
  • This really isn't the thing we should be doing

There may be other reasons we feel doubt, but I believe it can be summed up with those four.

Well, what can we do about our doubts? How can we become a doubt killer?

There are undoubtedly (see what I did there?) many ways to defeat your doubts, but I'm going to share three things that I believe can help.

Becoming the Doubt Killer

1. This is not your grandma's goal

First off, you need to make certain that this is your dream, your goal, your "thing." Be certain this (whatever your "this" is) is what you want to do.

Don't go chasing someone else's dream for your life. Because guess what? They aren't dreaming for you. (Except for maybe your grandma!)

If your lifelong ambition has been to become a writer, then you were probably meant to write.

As the Late Rainer Maria Rilke was quoted as saying, “Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depth of your heart; confess to yourself you would have to die if you were forbidden to write.”

I like how Sister Mary Clarence (played by Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act 2) put it, "I went to my mother who gave me this book…called Letters to a Young Poet. Rainer Maria Rilke. He’s a fabulous writer. A fellow used to write to him and say, ‘I want to be a writer. Please read my stuff.’ And Rilke says to this guy: ‘Don’t ask me about being a writer. If when you wake up in the morning you can think of nothing but writing…then you’re a writer.’”

Whatever your "thing" is, you will know because you will think of it all the time.

2. Be like Bob in "What About Bob?"

If you are familiar with the actor Bill Murray, then you may have seen the movie "What About Bob?" It came out in 1991.

Bob was a man with a lot of problems. But then Bob met Dr. Leo Marvin. Of course, there is a ton of comedy Bill Murray style, but there is a take away from the movie.

Dr. Marvin wrote a book called "Baby Steps." It was a book about taking small steps to get to a goal.

So be like Bob and take those baby steps to overcome your doubts

3. Put on your "doubt killing" armor

I don't know what that armor looks like for you, but for me, it comes in the form of personal growth and enrichment.

There are days I feel like I am ten feet tall and all decked out in my gruffest looking armor ready for my "blade" to do battle against the "ogres" of doubt. Other days, not so much!

We have to arm ourselves and be ready for whatever comes our way. When I read books or motivational quotes, those things get me ready for the "giants" in my way.

Whatever it is for you, be it a protein shake in the morning or meditation or prayer, make sure you arm yourself for the doubts that will certainly come your way and attack you when you are not looking.

4. Have a supportive tribe/team

We are fortunate here at Wealthy Affiliate to have a very supportive team who are able and willing to help us along the way. If we ask for help, we receive it. If we are feeling discouraged, we can let others know and they will encourage us.

Not everyone has this, but we do and I feel so fortunate to have found a group of like-minded people who are supportive of not only my goal, but of me, too.

Whoever your team comprises, make sure that you have them with you as you work to defeat your doubts and fears.

Wrapping it all up

You can conquer your doubts, but it will take time, work and dedication on your part. Also remember that what works for one person may not work for another person. These four ways to become doubt killers are things that I do that help me deal with the doubt I encounter (most of which comes right from my own head).

I hope you all have a great weekend! I will be taking photos of Santa this weekend for the newspaper I work at, so I will be very busy as he is visiting All the neighboring towns this Saturday and Sunday.

Best wishes,
Karin 😁

I really enjoyed reading this Karin, and I can say that I have had my share of doubts throughout my 71 years of being alive. I have traveled all over the world, and have experienced so much. I hang on to what the bible says about doubt,
"Why am I so sad?
Why am I so troubled?
I will put my hope in God,
and once again I will praise him,
my savior and my God.
(Psalm 42:11)

Keep up the good work and wishing you many blessings. Roy

Thank you, Roy. I appreciate you sharing! I am glad you enjoyed the post.

Best wishes,

Agree with your post - it is hard to be motivated if you doubt yourself or your goals; and it is hard to work toward your goals if they are not your own goals but somebody else.

Just think of the loss to mankind if Handel had followed the goals of his father and became a lawyer rather than a musician.

Anyway, we all need to hear motivational goals because we all need to be motivated over the long haul.

The long haul - that is what separates the winners from the losers.

Dave.
