Are you your own worst enemy?
Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.~ Buddha
I am often my worst enemy—no one has to tell me how "horrible" I am—I do a great job of telling myself all about my own shortcomings!
I believe that many of us are in the same boat, so to speak. We don't need enemies, we have ourselves!
I have heard it said that when we begin to verbally "beat ourselves up" to ask ourselves if we would say the same thing to our daughter? I know that I would not! She would be devastated by some things I tell myself about myself.
I've also read somewhere that if we hear our friends cutting themselves down we should say to them, "Hey. Stop that! That's my friend you are talking about!" It might be just the thing they need to hear to wake them up to what they are doing to themselves!
Our "unguarded thoughts," as Buddha put it, can harm us more than we know. They can keep us from reaching our full potential. They can prevent us from doing the things that we want and ought to do.
Do you have "unguarded thoughts" that are keeping you from reaching you full potential? What are you going to do about them? I wouldn't ask you to write them in the comments, but I do encourage you to think about them and what you are going to do.
And remember, if you are reading this, you are likely someone that I consider a friend and I don't like it when people say bad things about my friends!
Best wishes, friends!
Karin :)

Yes, Sara, agreed, GMTA! We truly are what we think! Hmmmm..... I think I am the Powerball winner. I think I am the Powerball winner! LOL
Have a great day!
Best wishes,
Karin :)
How very true, some of us always beat ourselves up. We're never good enough. Thanks for the reminder that I need to be a little gentler with myself. Deanna
Deanna,
We do have to be nicer to ourselves—we are the only "us" we have! :)
I have done all these little experiments (I studied psychology in college) on my mood. If I tell myself in the morning that I am beautiful and I can do anything, my confidence throughout the day is magnified. But when I do not do that, I just feel off. Probably all a brain game, but if it works...I say give it a try every day!
Best wishes,
Karin :)
It's so true, I find myself succumbing to thoughts that are truly unworthy of who I think I am. Sometimes it is hard to turn those off. It's good to be aware of our self-talk, as it can influence where we are in life.
So true, Fran. For many years I pounded myself into the ground with negative self talk. At times it seemed impossible to turn that negative self talk off, but it's way better now! Hope you have a great day!
Best wishes,
Karin :)
That is a hard one, and I still battle with it at times. If you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, stop right there and think of a way to make the statement positive. To change things, we have to remain vigilant.
If ever we have enemies. Let us love them that is the greatest commandments to love our enemies. do not hate them. Love your neighbor as thyself.
Let us be blind in seeing the wrong of other. let us be deaf in speaking the wrong of others. let us be mute to back bite our enemies.
Great post, Karin!
I try to stay positive but doubt and uncertainty creep in sometimes. When that happens, I go through the posts and read or re-read ones that are uplifting and inspiring. Then I think to myself, I am so glad I am a part of the WA community!

When I catch myself doing this I flip it to the opposite right then. Great reminder. Cheers AJ
That's awesome, AJ!
