A Day of Mishaps
Saturday is my favourite day of the week. It always has been, going back to when I had to attend school (ugh) and I still feel that Saturday is a special day.
Yesterday was not good.
First, I overslept. I didn't crawl out of my cosy bed until 9.30. I felt groggy all morning. Then I was enjoying some of my tomato soup for lunch and one of my veneers fell out and landed in the bowl of soup with a clink and a splash. I searched for it with my spoon but no sign of it.
I had to pour the soup into a sieve and allow it to drip through before I spotted the offending object. A fresh bowl of soup and a blob of denture fixative later and it was back in place.
My car has been running very badly these last couple of weeks, so Tony, my ex-partner and a truly awesome mechanic, attempted to fix it. He said it should be fine now so I set off for the older part of town to do a bit of shopping.
The car was fine for the first mile then it started to behave like a kangaroo, juddering and jolting and it stalled at a roundabout. I managed to restart the engine and get to my destination but when I returned to the car, it refused to start.
That wouldn't have been a problem, as I could call Tony and he would come out and rescue me. But when I looked in my bag for my phone, it wasn't there. It was still at home, plugged into the charger.
I was cursing by now.
I went back into the library and explained the problem. They kindly allowed me to use their phone and call Tony. But he couldn't come out because his car was up on the ramps with the wheels off. I had to spend almost £10 on a taxi to get home.
After a cup of coffee and a biscuit or two, I calmed down. Until we had to go and fetch my car. Tony drove it around the car park and said it was running fine. So we swapped places and he followed me home.
That journey was the worst driving experience of my life! The car repeatedly stalled and threatened to die on me countless times. It got called all sorts of names, I must admit. Other drivers were beeping their horns and making signs not seen in the Highway Code at me. So embarrassing.
I made it home and Tony said he would be back on Monday with more car parts and have another go at fixing it. I'm afraid to ask how much these parts will cost.
I am now stranded with no means of transport, apart from my feet. I hope there isn't some dire emergency in the next 24 hours, because I'm stuck here. I think I need a new car. I no longer trust the one I've got.
Hope everyone else is having a better Saturday!

Wow sounds like you had a nasty day. I hope the rest of the weekend went better. Cars are such a problem for us, we do not realize how much we rely on them until they start having problems.
I hope Tony can fix yours for a small amount.
Alex
Thanks Alex, I am definitely lost without my car. I have to do some shopping today and the supermarket is too far away so I will have to hike up to the local corner shop for some essentials. Tinker has run out of cat food, which is a dire emergency
Yes, he has a bowl of dry food available at all times but he likes a couple of sachets of wet food a day. If it doesn’t appear he will be marching up and down yelling his head off!
I am not familiar with the cost of car parts in UK in pounds but I am sure it’s more costly than parts in USA, depending on the make, model, and year. I have had my share of car troubles long ago when I was still able to drive. I stopped driving almost 9 years ago at age 50. That’s when I was diagnosed with MS found in my spinal cord that rendered my legs useless. Living in an electric wheelchair which is my mobile mini car. I am sure Tony can get it done for you. Owning a car is costly expense, no matter which country you are from. I hope you guys can figure out what is next.
That’s put my troubles into perspective! Yes cars are an expensive outlay but we need a means to get around. Like your electric wheelchair.
My friend uses a mobility scooter and when that’s gone wrong he’s stranded, he can’t walk very far or stand for more than a few minutes.
I wish you well and thanks for getting in touch ♥️
So sorry to hear about your car troubles. That is one of the worst things that can get in the way of your daily activities. I do love that you do have a great attitude through it all and that's a great thing. I hope and pray that you can replace it for a new one.
Myra
Thanks Myra, if it can keep going for a few months I’ll be happy! I have faith in Tony. If he can’t fix it nobody can
So sorry to hear of your problematic day, Karen! I have had those a time or three in the past, my friend!
Hang in there!

Hello Karen, let's look at the broad picture. Probably for several weeks all has been running smoothly.
Now this!.. lightning, donner and blixon!
Your bad day is behind you and won't be back for a while. Because in an average month these things don't happen.
So get the car patched up - thank God for Tony! Knowing such a good friend is a huge asset!
Look forward to smooth sailing and plan for any future mishaps. After all your car is telling you to prepare just-in-case he decides to have problems in the future.
THEN you'll have a brand new car!
Let us know when that happens! We'll celebrate with you!
Regards, Corinne
Hi Corinne, nice to hear from you! Yes, this was a frustrating day but it's behind me now and my car is once again running smoothly. Good old Fred. (Yes, I do name my cars!!)
Tony is a brilliant mechanic, and he gets the parts at trade prices. It's only going to cost about £50. He won't charge me for labour so I will make him his favourite dinner - liver and bacon with onion gravy. He'll be happy with that. I would love a brand new car but that's for the future. Fred can chug along for a bit longer
