Blogging here and ranking.

Hi,

When I posted my blog post

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/juliako/blog/may-the-force-be-with-you-and-my-wa-first-year-anniversary

here my ranking shot up to from over 6000 to just over 4000.

I was going to write a blog post showing this, but then when I wrote this post

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/juliako/blog/one-letter-can-make-a-difference

which has both more comments and more likes my ranking went down from just under 4000 to just over 4000.

Have you got any idea why this might be so?

What activities give us the most ranking points?

Does the topic make a difference?

Does the way people respond make a difference?

I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

All the best!

Julia

Hey Juliaco,
Read those responses below especially that of Marchanna and believe you will find some help.
Cheers.

I have never understood the WA rankings. It has also happened to me.

Julia, good questions, here is my take:

1. Generally the more activity and blogging you do, the quicker the rank change. Related to this is the number of likes and the depth of conversation that occurs on the blog. Otherwise, we are not provided measures of rank so we can't predict which topics are going to make more difference.

It is possible that the topic and the way people respond can make a difference.

If it's any consolation, it's not difficult to drive your rank into the top 200. At this level then it becomes more intense to shoot for rank 100 because the top 200 people are genuinely active and have something to say, about whatever rocks their boat.

The real question is, why bother to rank in the top 200 or better?

Other than feeling good about yourself and having fun ranking higher, rank at WA could matter if you are marketing WA and trying to get to Hawaii :)

Because the people you recruit will be impressed with your relevant posts helping them succeed.

There are several types of posts that collect a lot of likes.

Categories a b and c can get you ranked as an ambassador if you want to get there that way:

a) posts that complain about trolls in the chat room and other social behaviors that are not the norm of the social group here at WA. This large social group tends to read each other's stuff and likes each other's stuff that group likes to like things about and that they think is very important and crucial.

This is a normal forum phenomena not unique to WA. You can get a lot of likes by getting in with this group and move up/maintain rank that way.

b) posts that complain about rejection of comments on Site Comments or posts that complain about the lousy quality of comments on Site Comments. It's a popular theme of late and genuinely important, but as I am not engaging in Site Comments that much at the moment, I don't engage much.

c) success posts showing real data that this site actually works. Very useful indeed!

d) motivational posts about mindset, why WA is so great -- that is, posts that are aimed at converting free members to paying members -- call them affiliate posts. Great stuff and you can use these posts to help you sell WA -- you don't have to craft them on your own!

e) high quality technical training blogs and actual trainings on such subject matter. It's free and relevant and useful, one of the great things about WA!

I pay serious attention to categories c) and d) and e).

Your mileage may vary.

Why am I in the top 200? Just something fun I strove for out of curiosity as I had gotten down to about 150 a few months ago then stopped all activity and dropped down to 4000+.

Then I re-engaged my activity to see how long it would take to get back in the top 200 :)

Not every long and here I am big woop woop!

Notice that, unlike others, I haven't posted about my success at getting to the top 200, I haven't posted about my 6 month birthday at WA etc. Oh yeah, that's another way to get a bunch of likes and move up the ranks, by talking about trivial matters such as these.

Not being cynical reporting what i see :) If it were my site, I would reward categories c d e and put a lot less weight on material in categories a and b.

But what do I know -- hey -- I'm not running a successful multi-million dollar site, so pay scant attention to me ;) cheers

Marc

Hi

Great ! I love this reply.

C, D and E (mine and other people's) will be my priority for the future.

Thanks!

Julia

In my experience the WA ranking is very fickle. It is indeed based on your activity here and does not affect your site ranking at all. It's nice to see it go up, but I would not try to impact it through the content of my blog. Continue to write from your heart and let it do what it do.

Your rank goes up and down depending on your activity yes, but it is in relation to other members activity too. Say you made a blog post today, and your rank goes up. Then you commented and helped two people. Your rank improves again. But say someone below you in rank has a really active day, then he might jump up in front of you. Say five people do. Then your rank will drop some. This becomes more obvious the higher ranked you are. When you had a rank of 20,000 you're with 20,000 not very active members. A few blog posts can jump you up to 10,000 easily. But the higher you climb, the more the members in that rank post on WA so you gain some and lose some rank depending on how active you are vs how active other members are.

Btw, don't pay too much attention to rank. In all honesty, it's meaningless to your business. It simply indicates you are active on WA. I have gone days without being super active and days I'm very active, because rank on WA is not my goal. My site us my goal and you should try putting most of your time there. My rank is 397, last I checked. But I don't focus on that. It's too easy to get focused on that instead of my site.

Agree with you 100%.

I should also mention that rank here is not a bad thing and you will naturally climb the ranks quite fast without trying. It's definitely something to be proud of when you get high.

I simply mean, it's often a shiny toy that is distracting you. Is it worthwhile, definitely, in moderation. But many members focus too much on WA rank instead of their site, then realize how much time they wasted.

Helping people and sharing your success and experience to help people should be a goal and your rank will show that. Don't focus on it and neglect the reason your business! That's all I was saying. I don't want to imply being an ambassador is bad. But they aren't focusing on their rank. It's just a side effect of helping, posting and creating training.:)

I understand what you are saying.
Whats the rush.
In it for the long haul.
Regards Shane.

well said Selenity -- if you don't mind I'll follow you!

Thank you! I don't mind at all and will return the favor. :)

Yes Julia, activity is important factor.

Julia,
Have a look at the following link written by Kyle: Hope this helps

Peter

Julia wish I could answer the question, my ranking at the moment is going nicely downwards to a lowest ever 140, and have no idea why, not that I am complaining.
Just keep plugging away.
Regards
Stuart
