As a freelance writer, I know how difficult it can be to suffer from 'writer's block'. You sit and stare at the screen as if it's going to magically populate itself with words and ideas. You turn away, scratching your head and thinking, thinking, thinking....'What can I write about?' And still nothing springs to mind.

For sure, you may have ideas in your head, but they seem stuck there, shy and unwilling to show themselves, so you decide to have a break, make a coffee or go for a walk. By the time you come back you're hoping that things will flow and you might even manage to get a few words out before they dry up again. Sounds familiar?

Do you berate yourself and wonder why everyone else seems to manage okay? Do you think that every word has to be perfect and that the ideas must flow in a logical order? Well let me reassure you that is untrue. Not everyone has the ability to be able to churn out word-perfect posts, day in, day out. Lots of people struggle.Even well-known authors struggle and have 'dry spots'. What is important is that you try to write each and every day.

Your time is important and you need to learn how to manage it for you to be able to run a successful online business. Don't worry if your writing isn't perfect and whether it will make you money immediately. You can make money, but you can't make more time.

So what if it's not perfect? You are practicing your craft and it will become easier as you get more familiar with what can be a difficult thing to do, especially if you haven't written creatively since you were in school.

Eventually you will be able to look back on your earlier posts and laugh at yourself. You will see how far you have come if you compare something you wrote six months ago, to something you write this weekend. And you will realise that it was all worth it.

Try to remember that if something is worth having, then it's gotta be worth the hard work and heartache which may plague you on your journey. If things come to us too easily, then there is a tendency to not appreciate the gifts we've been given. If you've had to work hard for something then the sense of satisfaction you get from that is immeasurable.

After all, there is no elevator to take you to success. No-one said this was going to be easy, but every little step you take, or every word you put down on the screen, is another step closer to your goals. One step at a time, one word at a time...you WILL get there!

Have a productive weekend my lovelies, no matter how you choose to spend it.

Ciao for now,

Great words, here, Jude! As usual. Love the final thought/image. I like to keep a tablet and pen by my bed...seems like my most creative thoughts pop into my head just before I fall asleep. If I wait until morning, it's completely lost. So, if I keep a tablet nearby, I can jot down the thought and resume the next day. Sometimes, when I'm lucky, it'll still make sense the next morning. ha ha

Lol, I know that feeling. What may seem like a great idea at 1am may not make much sense the following morning! Have a wonderful weekend with the family Barb :)

:) you, too!

1

Yes I had that problem yesterday, I took a break for few hours, then i all came back to me. So thanks for your encouraging words

2

You're very welcome Anthony :)

1

You're an excellent writer Jude! How, when and why did you first start writing?

2

Oh my that's a big question! I started writing when I was about 9 years old. I wrote a 10 page story and the school made me go to each classroom to read it out. I then started work at 17 and it went on the backburner for a while. I had to leave through ill health and turned to freelance writing to pay the bills to be honest. I know that I'm lucky in that it comes fairly easily to me but I am aware how others struggle. Thanks so much for the compliments and taking the time to stop by :) Feel free to PM me if you would like any info about freelancing.

Now, Jude, I have to quit WA (just kidding)! I thought I can write, but I see that takes years of practice and also TALENT.

1

That's really kind of you to say I have talent Cristina. I've been lucky enough to have ghostwritten books which have had 5 stars on Amazon Kindle and have a 70,000 word book published, (which I wrote, but got paid for, so have no 'rights' to it,) in the name of an eminent US physician. :)

1

Wow, Jude! That's awesome!
When you get paid for your writings, that mean you have no royalties?

1

When you work as a ghostwriter, you get paid a one-off fee and then lose all rights to the work from then onwards. So no royalties, or further earnings unfortunately.

"Ecspecially if you haven't written creatively since you were at school".........

That, Jude, is where my happiness is coming from.....
Being open to this again.......

☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺

I have to admit that I hadn't done any creative writing in a long time. I used to tell me daughters stories but that's completely different to actually writing them down. I know I'm luckier than some in that I don't struggle too much, but I do know there are members here who literally are tearing their hair out with frustration! Thanks for stopping by Therese and hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

Thanks so much, Jude, you too!:-)))

1

That is really inspiring and encouraging Jude, once again many thanks :)

You are bringing lots of Light for people who don't master the pen , or for others who are not proficient in English. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and genuine advise...

Ciao bella! Thank you so much Monica, it's always a pleasure :)

Jude hi there , you know I'm letting my surroundings block me .I keep saying I will have space in 4 weeks which I will but no one is waiting for me ,so why should I wait for them , I seem to feel an obligation to be social to a woman . Which is blocking my path . I hope I make sense Jude ?

1

Hey Tim, only you can decide whether this person is worthy of you waiting around for them. If they are stopping you moving forward with your life, then I personally don't feel that's a good thing. Focus on your dreams and make a list of what you can do today to get you a little closer to them. Feel free to PM if you are struggling :)

Thank you Jude *S*

Wonderful post!
I have gotten in the habit of keeping my tablet by my bedside so when those good old hot flashes wake me up and my mind is creating at it's finest I cant write it down for the next day. Then I have some ideas to get me started. In the past I would think "Great idea! I'll remember that tomorrow" but the next day the faulty memory slate would be wiped clean.

1

Oh those damned hot flashes, they're driving me insane at the moment! But yes, it's a great idea to make notes as things pop into your mind. Because 'I'll remember that tomorrow' most definitely doesn't work for me either. Thanks so much for stopping by :)

Hi, Jude. The suffering reality is part of the GAME. So now I have to make 2-5 steps back to be good to go straight forward. And this for me ok.

1

As long as it works for you, that's all that matters :)
