Hi there.

One blog I have has 74 comments. I imagine 99% of these are spam. I was just wondering if I remove their backlinks and approve the comment maybe with a touch of

What is the best strategy for all the spam comments that have nothing to do with my content? Edit them, delete them?

Please explain. I know a lot of people are against this. Why? as long as you edit the actual comment into a good comment, how can it hurt your site.

I'm not personally in the habit of doing this. I just delete my spam. But I am thinking of starting to edit all of the comments I get in the WA comment system, since most of them have been garbage lately.

You sure can do that.
I do it sometimes as well.
But you really have ro edit the comment, so that it relates to the content of your post and is UNIQUE.
Biggest problem with spam comments is, that they get copied and pasted over and over and count as duplicate content if they are on your site and you didn't edit them good enough.

Yes thanks for that Moritz. Talking of duplicate content one client who I have advised on this very subject have insisted that we put duplicate content on. Sorry to say that this time the rule of "The customer is always right" is being adhhered to and the great Google being ignored...
