Why aren't I ranking?

So I've been writing posts targeting low hanging fruit keywords, but I'm not ranking and it is getting a bit discouraging :-(

Can I please get some advice on what I am doing wrong?

Here are a couple of examples that illustrate what I mean:

Example 1

Keyword "best way to get rid of butt cellulite"

Traffic: 24

QSR: 1

(Note, the QSR was initially 1, it is now reading as 3 since I wrote my article, with the additional 2 being from My post, and my sitemap both coming up as search results.)

Now, on the WA keyword tool, the competition page, my post comes up as the first result, since it searches with the quotation marks.

But, when I search my target keyword (without quotation marks) on google, I'm halfway down page 6.

I have linked back to my article internally a few times from other posts.

Here is my post (approx 600 words) for reference: http://betterbuttchallenge.com/2014/10/18/the-best-way-to-get-rid-of-butt-cellulite/

My question is, how can I get it to improve its rank?

If I can't rank for this keyword (with basically NO competition), then it must be happening for all my other pages too, and I'd like to fix that!

Example 2

Keyword "tim ferriss 4 hour body review"

Traffic: 72

QSR: 8

(Note, the QSR has gone up to 11 since I wrote my article.)

Again, using the WA keyword tool, on the competition page my post comes up within the first few results, since it searches with the quotation marks.

When I search my target keyword (without quotation marks) on google, I'm not even within the first 10 pages.

I have linked back to my article internally a few times from other posts.

Here is my post (approx 2600 words) for reference: http://betterbuttchallenge.com/2014/10/31/tim-ferriss-4-hour-body-review-can-this-book-change-your-life/

I did notice that using the MOZ bar, my domain authority is DA=1, how can I improve this as I know it will help my page ranking as well?

I know I could improve both articles by putting in more original pictures, increasing word count in the first example, and doing social bookmarking and social shares. I plan do to this come the weekend when I have a bit more time.

In the meantime, is there anything else I am missing?

Thanks all.

Part of the issues is that it's a relatively new site. And I see it was published only a month ago. With a new site, sometimes it just takes that long. With a more established site, you can rank faster and better.

I didn't see how many social shares you had. Perhaps sharing on social media will help improve some rank. Eliciting some comments can help too.

You can also try to drive traffic to the post through internal linking on your site. The more you link back to this post, the more that Google will see that you think it's important. Use appropriate anchor text, and it will start to rank higher for its search terms.

(Anchor text = the words you use to link)

Thanks Nathaniell. In your exerience, how long do you generally take to rank on page 1 (i know that's a broad and very ambiguous question!)? I will try to get more social shares. I do have comments on both the posts and am building out my internal links. Just wondering if there's any more I can do. Thanks.

Really hard to say. Sometimes it takes months. I'm on page 1 for "wealthy affiliate", but it took me about 12 months to get there.

For other keywords I can rank on page 1 in a few hours, as explained here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/get-posts-pages-indexed-faster-in-google-with-webmaster-tools

Depends on the type of content, the competing pages (QSR), the age of your website and how often you post content.

I would say for a new site, expect it to take at least a few weeks, assuming you are going for low competition keywords and posting regularly.

You're doing everything right, It just takes time. It took 4 long months to even get my site name on the first page. Just keep doing what you're doing adding content building out your site. You have a great site I have no doubts that you will be very successful. Just keep working it you got this.

There is nobody searching for this key word phrase tim ferris 4 hour body review
There are only 5 people per month search for this best way to get rid of butt cellulite. This means that maybe you will get 1 out of the 5 people to visit your site per month, that is not good.
Try to pick keywords that have high traffic and low QSR

Accident in my blog write up Tommy, I misspelt Ferriss when I reported the keyword in the blog post. Have edited to fix this up now. The traffic stats (from the WA keyword tool) are the numbers I have posted.

do not be discouraged by this ranking .... also ... depending where you are doing your search from, the results can be different to someone else searching for the same thing a few miles away..

Ranking comes with time... it comes with writing good content. You will not rank within a few days of necessarily writing the material...

It can be discouraging, i myself have written material 6 weeks ago... and still i wait for traffic.. but this morning i have noticed my site trust go to 10% after all this time...

Keep going... you are not doing anything wrong... keep targeting the low demand keywords and writing the content.. your site will get ranked eventually!!!

My fingers are crossed for you...

Chris

Thanks for the encouragement Chris. Where can I go to check my site trust rating ? This is the first I've heard of this metric.

If you go to the top left of the WA main screen ... where the get started green button is .. then under that is the live chat .. then under that is the Site-Rubix .. highlight this and click manager ... then from there where is says site health .. click view on the right side

Here is shows all aspects of your sites health .. and percentages!! The site trust is only 1 of the criteria.. it looks also to commenting, posting frequency and if your site is indexed by Google..!!

Hope this helps :)

Thanks

Chris
