Hi All WA friends,

Just seen the news on television, where it was announced today's temperature reached 35deg C, the hottest day recorded, overtaking 1976 which reached 33.5deg C.

Yes, no miss print and I am talking about the UK !!!! Heathrow Airport was the hottest place recorded. Severe thunderstorms are now forecast, with large hail stones and heavy downpours.

Is this global warming ? Are we in the UK starting to get a warmer climate, probably not. I know some of you will beat 35deg but please let us enjoy the moment.

Thank you,

John

Yes, I'm a coldy cat, but no John, I'm not enjoying such a hot weather. And nor does my border Indy. Please make it go away!!! #lol

Giulia

Yes all my rotties hate the hot weather, especially being predominantly black coats. The old one, Jess really struggles. Lets have some fresher cooler weather to help our animals.

John

Yes, I believe you will get hotter weather. We have been getting it here for decades. The growing season is 1-3 months longer now depending on which part of Alaska you are in. It is close to 3 months here and over a month in the interior. That is the measure of frost free days (and nights) so the number of days a crop can be grown. Farmers here get two full crops per summer instead of one now. Permafrost (which has been frozen for thousands of years) is melting. Plants and birds and insects and mammals are all moving north into areas nobody has ever seen them before and where the native people have no history of them occurring.

We never had ticks in Alaska...thank goodness. We do now. Everything is changing.

Thank you, Jessica.

Really enjoyed your history lesson, you are right. We very rarely get frosts or snow in winter any more, just very mild and wet with plenty of rain.
We seem to get a lot of flooding in various towns and cities. Times are definitely changing regarding weather patterns.

John

Hi John, I have seen it too. Irv.

Yes, too hot pal !!

John

In Portland, we still get rain when the sun is shining!

When we get rain and sun, it is called an "April Shower" no idea why it is named that.

John

We just call it 'Oregon weather' and we do know why we call it that!

Yes this has been a hot summer! I was in West Virginia and Virginia this past week..it was hotter there! I will be moving to Virginia later this year...time to start getting used to the heat.

Hi Karin,

I don't think I could stand heat as the norm during summer, hope you get used to it when you get to Virginia.

Thank you,

John

Heavens we can't have them burning away the fog over there!!!

Thank you, Mike.

Very funny, we only get fog every other day, today was a clear day. LOL !!!

John

Thanks for sharing, John.

Have to share a rare moment of weather in the UK.

John

LOL! good luck 'enjoying the moment' with 35C as an Englishman! That would melt us here in Ireland, we get it cooler than you!

Thank you Mary.

Don't you get most of the rain in Ireland if so send it over LOL !!!
I am sure you Irish wouldn't melt, unless you have plastic garden gnomes.

John

well it sure feels like melting when it happens but thankfully it wears itself out over the UK before it gets to us, hopefully you made it unscathed through to night time there, and good luck with the hailstones tomorrow :)
