Morale

Morale, also known as esprit de corps when discussing the morale of a group, is an intangible term used to describe the capacity of people to maintain belief in an institution or a goal.

Right from the start of every military career, esprit de corps is taught to young recruits as an essential part of being in the military. It is the “Glue” that keeps a unit together, ready for whatever challenge may arise.

Being posted to a warship I know this to be very true, for example, when a ship has a high morale things are good; the food is great, everybody is rested and feeling energized.. smiles.. jokes and high fives all around. Nothing can stop us!

On the flip side, when the morale is low it can be like a jail with no escape. People are upset, frustrated and even emotionally damaged which I have seen lead to suicide. You just don’t want to be there anymore, but you don’t really have a choice because you can’t just get off a ship in the middle of the ocean.

Interestingly enough, the Captain of the ship and how he treats the crew, is the sole reason for good or bad morale. Just the same as a CEO in any company can affect the morale of the entire workforce.

Very true, good post!

great blog John, it is a good thing and we all need a little glue. Thanks

Hey John, that's a fact, morale is a make or break it. I believe that if your not treating the help with respect your guys are not want to do there jobs as well as they should be.

Exactly, glad you agree.

Thanks

Hi John: Good reminder morale starts at the top and trickles down.

Thanks for sharing

Yes, thank you for yr great sharing, John. :) It is how true the top people in the company are the ones who can affect the morale of the whole organisation. :)

Hi John, great post! This is something I have noticed time and time again. The morale of the team makes or breaks a working environment. I don't know why some workplaces can't grasp this simple yet important concept!

Thanks for the post. I suppose the same thing could be said for the family, and as a man I am the captain and the way I approach I take everyday will make or break my family's morale. Good stuff.

So true. Great analogy and thank you

Interesting blog and subject. Appreciate the post.

Thank you!

Morale is definitely crucial. I do feel as if one bad apple can definitely have an adverse affect on many others. That is usually the way things work. Anyways, boosting morale is also very common in the military and among many other armed forces. It is definitely a vital aspect for being triumphant during skirmishes. Loved your blogs so far, psychology is definitely one of the things I love to read and discuss about. Keep publishing articles like these please :)

Thank you so much. More to come :)

Glad to hear that :D
