Employee Recognition
When people don't get enough recognition, they ask themselves, "what am I doing this for? Nobody cares."
One of the best things that managers can do is get out of the office and get some face time going with the workers on the front line. Get out and interact with them. Not in an event way like “ride the big bike” for charity event once a year. I mean get out there as individuals and create friendships with the employees. It costs nothing and can dramatically change the work environment. Too many times there is a distinct separation between management and hourly employees, which causes a distancing effect from your workforce that can undermine your corporate goals as a whole and create a dysfunctional workplace.
When a regular hourly employee knows your name and you give genuine recognition, then you have an employee who feels like you care about them and they will stop at nothing to do the best job they can to aid and assist in the success of the corporate goals.

Thank you for sharing! True, employers should get out and be with their employees.... Especially dispatchers and supervisory desk jockeys of trucking firms!
I don't know about that, I think we are all friends in this huge community there are plenty of rewards here at WA, I love to learn.
The keyword here, John is respect. Respect each other, whether man, woman or child, and they will reciprocate.
In my 45 years in the workplace I've not encountered any unpleasantness at any time. There were even tears when I retired, which only proves that when you love others, they return the favour.
Praise God for His love...Shirley
You're so right John. When I was working as a supervisor and manager, I tried to remember something my dad told me before he went to live with the lord.
He said that you don't have to be a genius to look like a genius. What you need to do is surround yourself with exceptional people; treat them with the highest respect you would put on members of your own family; point them in the right direction; sit back and let them do their thing. They will bust their butts to do a fantastic job and consequently, you will look like a genius.
Not only did that philosophy work like a champ, it made being the boss fun because everyone was enjoying the project.
You are right John. As a plant supervisor that is what I always tried to do. We were like a family (of coarse with ups and downs) and could always depend on them to get the job done. They also new I would jump in and help if need be. I no longer work there as I am retired (disability), but still remain friends with most.
WOW! thanks you for sharing that.
You are what I call a great leader and have my respect.
Thanks for the positive feedback
So true. It is all about respect. If an employee knows that his boss is willing to roll up his sleeves and get dirty right along side of them, then their is respect built there and they will then go the extra mile.
