Moonwalk, Failed Attempt
Mission control, we have a problem!
Wow, I didn’t expect this to happen.
Today on my first virtual walk on the moon, I had to abort the mission.
Yes, this Moonwalk was a failed attempt.
A Virtual Walk in the Park – Not!
I must say, I thought this moonwalk at Samsung 837 was going to be a “virtual walk in the park”!
Not!
The first few minutes started out quite okay. Never expected though that after 3 minutes I would experience nausea and a severe headache, and would have to abort the mission.
There were several unanticipated problems from the onset.
Numero Uno being that I ate a heavy meal right before the walk. I had just eaten a delicious steak and egg with sour cream in a pita bread for lunch from Miznon at the Chelsea Market, with a large jalapeno pepper. And then washed it down with some iced coffee and a delicious chocolate chip cookie.
When I first arrived to reserve the spot at 12:45pm, the operator told me to come back at 2:15pm, so during that time I went out to lunch.
However, since this walk is only virtual, this is something I couldn’t anticipate, and what the Samsung operators should have been aware of and given participators fair warning about.
Even before suiting me up, I mentioned I ate a heavy meal, and the operators mentioned “….it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Very strange. I have done many thrill-seeking activities that were actually REAL such as skydiving from a plane, and avid snowboarding, but never experienced any such nausea or severe headache. And this only happened after 3 minutes.
Well, afterward they agreed with me, that for now on, they will be warning new participators not to eat for at least 2 hours prior.
Wow, that was a big help!
Second, the jumpsuit harness was too tight. The operators strapped me in so tight to the point it may have been cutting off some of my oxygen, or at least prohibiting my comfort. However, before beginning the moonwalk and going virtual, this issue was corrected as the straps were slightly loosened.
Thirdly, and this is relatively minor compared to the first two, my virtual reality visor was blurred. I kept adjusting the wheel on top of it, but the clarity never was quite optimum. Still, I did get the clarity to where it became somewhat acceptable, but it was never quite “right.”
Anyway, that’s okay. Now I know.
For next week’s attempt, I will make sure not to eat for several hours prior and to stress that the equipment setup is done correctly. However, I was assuming the Samsung operators had this part down.
Second Attempt Coming Up
I’m sure this happens more than occasionally to other people. Samsung will even make you sign a waiver beforehand asking if you have epilepsy, vertigo, respiratory issues etc., or any pre-condition that may preclude you from partaking in this activity.
Now I know this can happen even to someone without any pre-conditions.
But they also need to stress to all participators they shouldn’t eat a heavy meal at least 2 hours before and then add that in the waiver. Or they won’t let you do the moonwalk. Obviously, even Samsung operators didn’t think this could be a problem, so why would the participator?
They do now.
Rest assured, knowing what I know now and after making these changes I am confident my next attempt will be successful and thrilling, and I will have some really great photos to share with you guys.
And just as well, because I had a big social media seminar to work and attend later.

Well, would never even have thought of that, but it makes sense. The astronauts don't eat much solid food in real space, do they?
Still, on the bright side, you have been of help to future participants because the operators learned something from your experience.
The 'moon' will still be there when you are ready for your next attempt.

You got the wording wrong it's "Houston, we have a problem" not mission control lol.
Not a nice way to find out about the eating scenario but at least you alerted them to the problem and now they know and can fix it. I wonder how many other people have maybe been caught out and never really even thought that could be the reason so never said anything. Now I hope you got a red and yellow suit not the blue one. Get someone else to strap you in the next time so you wont have the same problem and you can get going with the walk on the moon.
You can always sing "Walking On The Moon" by Police while doing it lol. So looking forward to seeing my friendly, smiley red and yellow clown floating around in space while also walking on the moon.

That's good or I would be sooooooooo sad. I mean how else would I get that ticket to NYC to howl and do all of these great and fun things if I lost my personal clown to do it with and who else would make me smile when I am down (SOB SOB!!).
I suppose there is always someone out there that becomes the guinea pig without realising for these things. Nothing worse though than feeling sick, worst feeling in the world. I know all about it this week as I have went through that feeling. xxxx

Yes, you don't want to go through that again, mind you at least you wouldn't be able to float away into space like you might if you eat nothing because then you will be too light, there will be nothing to keep you anchored lol.

Oh I am betting you will succeed 100% next time as you know what it is you don't need to do. Don't let the same person strap you into the suit as we don't want you feeling restricted again and make sure you get a red and yellow suit or even just a red one but not a blue one like I saw hanging in your pic.
Oh and btw remember to give us a wave when you get there and keep those feet firmly planted so you don't float away lol. xxx

Nope friend, you definitely need to avoid the blue and go for the red and yellow this time. Don't eat a lot but don't starve yourself either or you might float rather than walk lol. xxx
