I Beat Efren Reyes in 9 Ball!
OMG, I am still in shock. I cannot believe what just happened!
I defeated "The Magician" Efren Reyes in 9 Ball - considered by a vast majority to be the Michael Jordan of pool - on my Birthday!
And there was only a 50% chance I would even play him.
But it happened.
Some of you may remember I wrote a post several months ago about playing another Filipino legend in the game Francisco Bustamente - but taking a win from Efren "The Magician" Reyes takes the cake!

For those who may be thinking The Magician let me win, did Efren know it was my birthday?
Was he looking to give me a charitable win? No way, he had no idea it was my birthday and you can clearly see in his facial expressions after his one single MISS that he was clearly trying his best to beat ME.
Not only did I beat who most believe to be the world’s all-time greatest pool player over the last 40 years, I beat him clean and efficiently in under 3 ½ minutes - and he didn’t even try to please the crowd and “give the game away” by missing any 9-Ball trick shots on me at the end of the game by going 4-rails around the table.
Heck, he didn’t even get to the 9 – Ball…..I did!
Efren Reyes Considered by Many to Be World's All-Time Best Pool Player
Efren M. Reyes is a Filipino pool player whose nicnames are "The Magician" and "Bata".Reyes is a winner of over 70 international titles. He was the first player to win world championships in two different disciplines in pool.
Among the numerous World and U.S. titles Reyes has won are the following:
- 4-time World Eight-ball Champion,
- 1999 WPA World Nine-Ball Champion
- 3-time US Open Champion
- 2-time World Pool League winner
- 14-time Derby Classic winner
Reyes has an unprecedented five Master of the Table crowns. By defeating Earl Strickland in the inaugural "Color of Money" event in 1996, Reyes took home the largest single event purse in pool history: $500,000.
This is why many analysts, fans, and current and former players consider Reyes to be the greatest pool player of all time.

YES, I've met and have played Jeanette Lee several times, and have also played against Francisco Busamante, Alex Pagulyan, and Mike Massey. I beat Massey in a race to 3 in Vegas.
But this win against Efren ("The Magician") takes the cake!

Congratulations and Happy Birthday!
I know next to nothing about pool however, my little brother actually plays pool and has made a bit of money but about half of his actual income comes from recovering and refurbishing pool tables.
From what I know about "Masters of Pool" they aren't known for letting others win - I would say you won this round fair and square!
So anytime life causes you to feel a bit defeated just remember this win - if you can beat the best, you can do anything!

As I said to Ahimbe, even though Efren was in the end a great spot, Efren is a great Champion, and Great Champions NEVER want to lose. So he didn't GIVE me the win, and he didn't know it was my birthday:)
If you watch the video carefully after he missed that side pocket shot, you can see some frustration in his face. That was one of only 2 mistakes he made - one mistake too many:)
I will remember your words and always think of this for inspiration!

My wife is phllipina and had heard of Efren she said he also made movies in the phillipines?
Hey when I was going to high school a friend of ours had a 3/4 size slate pool table .
We got so good at 8 ball we use to clear the table in 4 1/2 minutes calling every shot.
The most fun we had was playing strap pool and strip pool!!
Strap pool, our friend who had the table stole a large strap from the principal's office back when they strapped kids for being bad🤯
So when we played 8 ball if you scratched all your opponents and we sometimes had a dozen or more playing you got strapped on both hand by everyone.
So, the more you scratched the worse your shooting got and that's not good🤯
Now we would often of course play for a few dollars maybe $5.00 which was a lot of money then cause a gallon of gas was only 38 cents!!!
Strip pool was a little different if you scratched you had to take off a piece of clothing until you have no more clothes yes the first person naked was the loser ha ha .
I never lost at strip pool but I got strapped quite a few times, ha ha .
