Where is the cheapest place to buy a domain name?
If you are wondering where the cheapest place to buy a domain name is, it is definitely wealthy affiliate from what I have seen. Domain names here at Wealthy Affiliate can be purchased for $15. Now, if you have not been to Wealthy Affiliate yet or did any research, you are probably wondering why? Can't I buy one on Namecheap for $10? Let me elaborate further.
It depends on what you mean by cheap
If you are looking at cheap based on the price that you will pay on the surface, it would look like paying $13-$15 to wealthy affiliate is highway robbery. After all, you can get a domain name from a place like Godaddy for $11.99 or Namecheap for $10. In fact, it seems pretty smart because your saving money.
But what is the catch though
The catch is that even though you are paying a smaller amount with those domain name registrars, what you don't know is the amount of up-sells that are going to be coming your way. What? You thought that you were offering you a domain for cheap out of the goodness of their heart. Unfortunately, it doesn't work out that way. In fact they count on people buying those extra features (most people won't because why would they want to spend extra money). After all, many people like a side of fries with their burger.
What are they up-selling you on?
Most domain name registrars will up-sell you on the following features:
- Secured Socket layer (SSL) - fancy way of saying it is safe to buy something on the website. You will know if you see "https" vs "http".
- Privacy Protection - for protection against hackers.
- Email Accounts - after all, visitors have to get a hold of you if you put in a contact form
How much does SSL go for?
SSL prices will vary depending on where you buy it from. Godaddy for example is going to charge $60/year for such a feature. Others will charge you only $2 if you only need it for one domain. Places like Name and Namecheap will offer this for $10 extra.
Why you should consider SSL?
If you are not aware, SSL can have a decent factor on your SEO rankings. Google wants to know that your site is secure especially if you are an e-commerce or affiliate website. After all, they are going to send their most trusted customers (the searchers) over to your website in order to serve them.
How much does privacy protection go for?
This is also going to vary depending on where you purchase it from. Hostgator is going to upsell you this for $20/year. Other places like Godaddy is going to offer this service for $8/year. So you will have to do some research and compare.
Why Wealthy Affiliate wins
The reason why wealthy affiliate wins is because of the fact that they do not try to upsell you. In fact, all the features I have mentioned above come with your website purchase. You get privacy protection, SSL, and email accounts all for free with your purchase. All you have to do is go premium here at Wealthy Affiliate (the monthly dues are cheaper than paying for a hosting plan on WP engine). I did not know any of this until I did the research.
Bonus Fact
Wealthy affiliate also has good site support as most members here have actually gotten their website problems fixed in less than a day if not a couple of hours or even 30 minutes.

in my case, i didnt have time to shop around, it was my 1st time owning a website and building a website so i didn't want to be bothered with figuring so many things out....so siterubix was free and i didnt want my 1st website to end with a dot siterubix dot com so i just bought it from WA...and its all good!.
No question about it...WA is the best deal! I wouldn't go anywhere else for domains. In the past, I've used Godaddy and Namecheap. No longer!

By far the best deal is purchasing your domain and hosting right here at WA. After building websites for clients and myself for years under many circumstances with domain names and hosting plans spread over different places what a nightmare.
You can't go wrong doing everything right here at WA. I have actually started moving my domain names for future projects to WA.

this is an Awesome review on why site domains here at Wealthy Affiliate are not only the cheapest but also the best value on the planet.
Other sites like GoDaddy or NameCheap have cool names and a cheap base price but the upsells are crazy and here at WA we get everything included plus hosting and all for way less!
I never plane to purchase a domain name from anywhere as as long as I live!

Great info. Thanks for that. I may be wrong that I believe you can do feedback and comments to gain credits here and pay for domains with those credits. So the domain would only cost one's time. That's pretty cheap.
