PRELUDE

First off I wanted to say that I am not making light of any addictions but I will be putting a lot of light-hearted intentions in this post and I hope to get at least a few people to smile!

I seriously think my family is plotting against me. I see them whispering to each other when they don't see me. I catch the strange looks after a 10-hour computer session. I can sense it. It emanates from them like a thick cloud. There's only one word for it, INTERVENTION!

All I can say is, they won't take me alive!

A Bit Of Some Insight

Now, that that's out of the way, the reason I wanted to write this is let everyone know, it's OK. If you're treating this like a business like I am, you are going to have to put time into it. As with any business, it's going to take a lot of time, a lot of hours for a very long time to see success here!

So strap in kiddies, there ain't gonna be no breaks on this road trip and no sleeping allowed!

A Taste Of History

I first found Wealthy Affiliate over 2 years ago and I knew at that time how valuable and unique it was. I came from a background of building websites for myself and studies just about everything I could about them. I had some pretty big systems where a person could download a game app I wrote, play it and it would communicate with my website, recording stats and displaying them on web pages.

I did this more than a few times, but realized it really wasn't working. I wasn't getting any traffic, no one was talking about my websites or my games. No matter what I did, I couldn't get them to stick.

That's when I found Wealthy Affiliate the first time. I dove in and I dove in hard! I absolutely loved everything they showed me. Things that I've never seen or heard of and I only played with it for 2 months the first go round.

The problem was, well, me. I am a game developer fanatic. I can't stop thinking about it, I can't stop doing it. My thinking at this time was, why would I put a year or more into Wealthy Affiliate, when I can put that same amount of time into game development?

Well, I spent the last 2 years working on my game ideas and guess what? I still have over 2 more years, at least, to go.

My New Plan

I recently re-evaluated my finances, my day job and my plans with game development and realized, it's not working. I am way behind my schedule of where I wanted to be financially and so I had to look at some new plans. Even look at putting game development away for quite a while.

That's when I came upon Wealthy Affiliate again! Was it coincidence? A glitch in the Matrix? It hit at the perfect time. I immediately opened up all my notes and spreadsheets and starting writing up a new plan.

I signed up as a premium member and started going through the first few lessons. It was then I realized, this was my path. I had all three computers chugging along and the most beautiful music to my ears, yes, the sound of a keyboard typing away! Filling the house all night long with it's sweet, sweet music!

I made an agreement with myself. I know how I am and if I don't give myself some cookies, I can throw a pretty mean tantrum. I told myself it will be OK to still work on my game development. I have over a year in my current project. It would be pretty stupid to stop it while I have made so much progress on it. I will be able to work on it, while I work on my online business!

Warning, Mental Nudity Ahead!

I wanted to expose my thought process and my schedule. To some it may seem a little nasty and actually go against some of the teachings!

I am not a big fan of social media. I don't really like what most people use it for and I don't maintain any personal social pages.

If your going to have an online business, you will have to embrace the social demons! The amount of exposure you get from social media is exponential to how much time you put into them. Almost half of my traffic is coming from the social media outlets.

This is because of how much time I put into them. I have a pretty strict schedule and the first thing I do every morning while gulping down my gallons of coffee, is go through each social channel. I do my likes and comments, mainly on things that apply to my niche, but sometimes on other goodies too! Who doesn't like the puppy pulling the toy away from the baby?!

I spend a good amount of time doing this, usually about an hour in the morning and possible another hour at night. I believe it's pretty important to post your content to social media and spread the love to others so that when you do share a post, they give some back to you!

Going this route may require you to lower your mental barriers and really expose your brain to some of the best or worse of what the internet has to offer!

To Wrap Things Up, Where To Now?

Back on to the focal point of this long-winded spiel!

I wanted to put a few good insights into Wealthy Affiliate and what it actually can do if your willing to fully commit yourself to the plan! Here are some of the best tips we can offer those who are just starting to dabble into this treasure chest of online marketing knowledge!

  • Don't Quit
I failed on this one the first time. I didn't see the results I wanted after 2 months and stopped. A big mistake. If I would've stayed with it, my site would be over 2 years old. All that Authority Lost!!
  • Be Patient
Again, this wasn't my best performance in my previous adventure here. This time around, I have subscribed to the yearly membership. I now know full well, it will take at least a year to see some really good results!
  • Be Consistent
Set your goals and stick with them. One of the biggest things that people need to do is produce good quality content and a lot of it!
  • Stay Dedicated
You have to treat this as your business since in reality that is exactly what it is. As such, running your own business requires you to be as dedicated as possible!
  • Do The Training
This is one of the most important tips you will see here at Wealthy Affiliate. In order to learn the system, do the training, don't skip around and try to cherry pick the things you want to do, do each step and follow it as close as possible. You will thank yourself later!

Now, I know there are a lot of areas where people get stuck or have a hard time completing certain areas of the training. This is where the awesome community here at Wealthy Affiliate comes in!

While the Training here is absolutely phenomenal, unique and the best available, the community resources are just as valuable or even more! When you need help with something, you can leave comments in the bottom of each lesson. You can also ask your question in live chat that's always bubbling and churning with all the member activity.

Another awesome feature available here is the top search bar. Just type your question in or the subject of your issue and you will see a long list of resources available to help you out!

OK, I have been here long enough, I have my own business to run! I just wanted to share some thoughts on the benefits of being addicted to Wealthy Affiliate and how I think it's actually a good thing!

And just to clarify, my family is in full support of me, mainly because they know they really wouldn't take me alive!

I love you guys and I hope everyone here sees the success that is available come to each and everyone here!

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Woooow. A mouthful Jeff. I feel your passion.

I can relate to your passion even though it's not for the same thing. I understand the frustration when you can't just stick to that but need to build other infrastructure to go with. It.

I'm glad you finally found your place here.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm addicted to WA myself. For the last 12 years owning an internet business has been my dream and WA is the perfect fit for me.

I trust WA will bring you your breakthrough too.

From reading this, I can see the addiction, in a good way of course. But even a good addiction needs a pause. If this is leisure and productive for you, then it might work out temporarily as you work hard to set things in motion.
From what you've stated, I think family time will have less attention as this "good addiction" increase, which might be a problem. "Pause for a cause'' friend, is the key to balance everything around you. It might not be at this moment for you, but from a statistical point of view, it will eventually happen if 2 hrs turn into 4 then 6 then 8 hrs on a daily basis. Hey, it had happened to Einstein. Just pointing out the obvious. All the best!

Thank you very much for the feedback!
I actually agree wholeheartedly!

If you have the type of family that actually spends time together, its a very beautiful thing for the spirit and for your mental well being!

In all actuality, me and the family spend at least one time a day, a few hours at least of some together time, watching shows, eating dinner or reading.

Sometimes they are actually in my office with me while I do work. Its a very good thing!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the comment!

What a fantastic post! "You will have to embrace the social demons! Haha... I totally agree, WA provides so many paths and training , stick to it and grow:)

Thank you!

I cringe sometimes when I have to hit that Facebook tab, lol

Glad you found your way back to WA Jeff. WA is really the best platform for online business. God bless

Thank you!
And to you as well!

Terrific post Jeff. I fully concur that your "addiction" to WA is great. You HAVE to treat it as a business & be consistent. If you are treating this as a hobby you are mistaken. If you were a "gamer" before, frankly I cant think of a better way to move from that time consuming addiction & use the focus from "gaming" to focus on WA. Win win my WA friend.

Have a profitable & successful day.

Trevor

Thank you!
I have tried to do some gaming here and there, but it just doesn't work. My mind wont allow it for now.

Gaming is such a horrible time sink with nothing accomplished.

Don't worry though, fellow gamers, when things settle down and get on track, I strongly believe its a very good reward when you have finished some goals!

Thank you!

Love it... nice reframe..

lol
Gamers FTW!

\o/

Glad you like the positive rethink on gaming. It used to drive me mad seeing my son waste so much time on that ******* playstation instead of studying.

Wishing you a profitable and successful weekend.

Trevor

Thank you!

If I get into a good game, I don't call it playing, I call it doing research!

:)

Nice way of thinking about it now.
