Will I need to update / resubmit sitemaps, for example? Or do I just simply create categories, assign blog posts to the categories, and that's all that needs to happen?

Hi

As you write more blog posts you may create categories and assign posts to their respective categories, add those to your menu, when visitors click on a specific category then can see all posts related.

.

There's no need to resubmit sitemaps once submitted as Vitaliy noted.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Abie! It sure does help. I will be checking out those tutorials today.

Jorge

You should hit the update button, otherwise the categories will not show up.

Once you create categories, assign relevant blog posts to each category.
If you have initially submitted those URLs to Google or are already indexed, there's no need to resubmit.
But if you have created new posts, then submit them to Google.

Thank you, Muslimah! Sounds good, I will be doing that for the new posts.

Jorge

You are welcome.

So you make more blog posts, assign them to the relevant categories and with each new blog post, resubmit your sitemap to Google.

Thank you, Vitaliy! That's good to know, for some reason I thought that would happen automatically. Maybe because Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo are indexing and ranking my blog posts automatically.

Jorge

Well your sitemap is regularly looked at by Google on its own so honestly, updating your site map manually is optional. I just do it when I frequently post new content or update old content.

Thanks again, Vitaliy! It sounds like a good idea to be proactive about it, especially since there seems to be no harm in doing so. I think it's a good habit to develop.

Jorge

Yeah I normally follow this approach and it works fine for me

I think it would be a very good idea to submit a Site map again. Give Google a head's up.

Lily

Thank you, Lily!

Since I haven't gotten to the Bing Webmaster part yet, should I just wait until I do. I'm currently getting traffic from Bing without having submitted a sitemap.

Also, what would happen with other search engines such as Yahoo and DuckDuckGo when I assign my blog posts to the categories I create?

Currently I'm getting traffic from all search engines except Google (I created my website about 5 weeks ago). I'm getting more traffic from DuckDuckGo than Yahoo and Bing combined.

Jorge

This is quite normal for Google, it will be the last one to notice you so be patient. You don't really need to do the sitemaps when you register with these platforms. As you can see they are finding you anyway. The sitemaps are to let them know about new posts on your website mostly.

You will get traffic anyway. Just dig in a write, write.

You are going brilliantly for only 5 weeks!

Lily

Sounds good, Lily. Thank you!
