Sad News Indeed! - Useless Comments On WA Member's Website.

Do you really understand what it means to leave a comment on someone's else website?

Even with great ideas like the Give And Take Comments Tread or the Share Your Beautiful Website Thread that Kyle created, a few members just do not understand that they are leaving comments on a fellow teammate's website.

Our website (s) are where we put our hearts and soul into when creating content. It is just not acceptable for someone to come to a website with comments such as "Nice website" or "Great Post".

These comments are just plain useless, as a matter of fact they are spam comments/just plain lazy comments. What should you do with such comments? Should you approve or delete?

Look at it like this: how would you like if all the comments you receive on your website contains half liners like those mentioned?

Remember, we are WA, we are champions in the online marketing world, we are greater than this.

When you leave a comment, take your time to read, re-read the article, then leave a relevant, useful comment. You have received the training on this already, so just follow through and be honest.

We must also not just expect to receive quality comments when we are not leaving any quality comments or no comments at all! That is just plain wrong and unethical.

I would say that most of the members within WA are great comment makers, so the few that do not pay attention when leaving comments...I beg of you to refrain from leaving useless comments or not returning comments.

If you agree, disagree, somewhat agree, have anything else to add or take away from this, do let me know within the comment section below.

Remember To Press The Like.

Best,
Jason.

Hi Jason, you seemed quite angry and upset when you wrote this post, not wishing to upset you further, but I was thinking to myself when reading, seems a bit unfair to be complaining about the quality of comments when someone has taken the time to tell you they liked it even if not saying why, after all i thought, some people can be nervous of writing anything, but decided to tell you it was great anyway. As I read on I realised the issue was a spam one, I;m new to blogging and didn't know about this, if I had received a "great post "comment after my first post, that is when I publish it anyway, I would have been happy thinking at least somebody liked it lol.at least now I know better, what about a polite spam notice by the comment box for those that don't know better, and a reminder for the lazy ones not to do it? can we do that? any way thanks for the post, enjoyed reading it and learnt something new, cheers tracy :)

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for your contribution to this blog post.

Just to clarify; this is not a complain at all but rather a constructive way of reminding our fellow members within the WA platform to know that when we leave comments, it should add real value to the page or post.

I understand that some people may be new or nervous and that is ok... as we move along with our business we will get better at content creation which includes comments you reply to on your website or comments that you leave on other websites.

My blog post was not meant to bash anyone at all. It is merely a FACT that ought to be told which will eventually help someone to look into the truth of the matter.

Remember, we are building business so we MUST treat it as such.

All the best. :)

Jason.

Hi Jason. I am so glad you brought this up. Comments are so important. Yes we at WA have been taught to comment but they probably don't really get the importance. They think it is helping by just going to the site. You are right. The "nice post" comments are worse than no comments, because they are considered spam. The people here to not mean to spam each other. As far as comments being faked or staged, I disagree. No one said you have to leave a nice comment. If you leave a thoughtful comment disagreeing with a post, it is still a good comment, right? I think we are helping each other get ranked on Google so that we will have visitors find us and they will then leave comments that are more organic. Anyway, back to the beginning: people don't realize how important comments are. If they did, they would leave better comments, they would leave comments on everything they read that they like and they would leave comments on their friends posts and updates. I have friends tell me that they liked something on my blog but they never EVER comment. I beseech them to comment. They won't take the time because they don't know how important it is. We can only go forward, lead by example and leave the comments we would like to see int he world! Good luck!

I suggest that WA provide a "template" where reviewers/visitors fill in the blanks and add unstructured responses as well. Then we get to apply the templates (comments template, site review template) for the first and may be second site/page we review.

After that we would have a 'Habit' of providing meaningful comments/feedback

Very insightful information Jason, thank you. You have put a definite spin on something that is often overlooked. I never thought of it one way or the other, but it helps when you take a step back and look at something on a different angle.

Hey Jason,

I agree that people don’t always take leaving comments seriously. Instead they go at it with the approach of just thinking of themselves and it will not take them very far in their affiliate marketing career. Honestly, if I can’t think of anything good to say I won’t leave a comment. But, I can usually come up with something to say and ask them something that references another page/post on their website.

I did actually write a training on what to do about useless comments:

I seem to be the only one thinking "what's the issue". I see that everyone else agrees with your post above but I am not sure I do. Even comments like "nice website" and "great post" are still feedback and someone has taken the time to actually stop by your site and leave that feedback. I don't mean to be contentious, just my thinking. Thanks for the post though. Got me thinking.

Hello Tans,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here.

How should I explain this?... It is not about being ungrateful at all regarding comments left.
The point is: the one liners or irrelevant comments are seen as spam in the eyes of the search engines.

Google, as an example will and does demote your hard work when the comments which are left on your website appears to be spam. Would you like your hard work to be regarded as irrelevant and then in-turn loose rankings?

This is business that we are running, we all want to be successful along the way.

This is a post that is meant to help members here to improve themselves and add value, not to bash others. The truth may sound a bit harsh but at the same time will help individuals to think and make a better choice going forward.

I do hope that I clarified this a bit for you.

Kind regards.

Yes it has thanks.

I agree, if you use the service, use it correctly!

Yep, those things are frustrating.

Way to go Jason, Robert

You are right. I for one put a lot of thought into comments or site feedback that I make. If commenting on a post I try to make the content relevant to the post. It may be a short comment but It does say how I feel about what I read. I do not critique in a comment. That should be done in a private message. Comments feed rankings and should be created with that in mind.

When you want to point out problems with the post do that in a separate message to the owner.

Thanks for this blog.

Short relevant comment makes a lot of sense. I also totally agree with leaving private messages regarding any critique.

Thanks for taking part in this discussion Ron.

I agree - what comes around goes around. I aim to be constructive with my comments - and often the most useful comments are those which find faults or errors or poor design in a website. If such comments are clearly explained, the recipient of the comments can use them constructively.

But,even if somebody leaves a bland comment for me such as "nice site" I will still aim to leave a quality comment for them. It will serve as a subtle way of showing how to leave a comment.

Thats very true Julie, I do that at times too. We have to lead by example.
