To put an affiliate link into your WordPress page or post...

It is best to link your affiliate link to a line of text, so create your line of text.

1. Highlight the line of text you wish to add your link to.

2. Click the little link button as shown in the diagram below.

3. A box will pop up as shown below.

4. Insert your link into the URL box. There will already be an "http://" inserted in the box. You will want to check once you have inserted your link to check that the http:// doesn't show twice. If it does just delete one.

5. Add your keyword to the 'Title' box. One or more words is fine but generally no more 3.

6. Tick the box to 'open in a new window' if you want to use this option. (Please see BlueDot's comment in the discussion below for an explanation on this).

7. Click 'Add Link'.

8. Remember to save draft or publish your post when you are finished.

That's it! Now you now how to insert an affiliate link to your WordPress Page or post.

Janice.

You're most welcome. I love being able to help my friends :)

I don't know what happened , but there was a reply from me here. Nice job on the explanation of adding affiliate links.

A little gremlin! :) Hoped it helped get the job done.

Hi Janice well done on this - what a lot of Newbies fail to do is ensure where links are directed. For internal links (links linking to other pages or posts within your website) then the target="_blank" does not apply eg if you wanted to direct someone to the contact page (To find us Click Here). So in this instance you would NOT select the Open Link in a New Window.

When you link to an external page e.g. the Affiliate or Merchant Page (Amazon) then the Target="_blank" does apply. So in this instance you DO select Open Link in a New Window.

The reason External links need to be directed to a New window, has to do with accidental link selection. If a customer selects the link and your page refreshes as the merchant site i.e. does not open up as a new window, and this is not what they intended to do, they (customer) automatically close the page. Now no website is displayed and the possibility of re-looking you up might be too much of an inconvenience. The Customer has effectively walked out of your Shop.

Hopes this makes sense - Colin

Hi Colin, yes it does make sense and thank you for adding this clarification. I will edit the 'tick this box' part :) Thank you.

Thank you Colin for explaining this :)

I will also add, delete the "http://", then paste. Then you want have to worry about duplicating it.

Great explanation Janice!

Thank you P.Smith :)
