Finding ‘flow’ in your daily work.
What is Flow?
“Flow” is a state of mind where your concentration shuts out your busy and active inner dialogue.
When your inner dialogue is quieted and your focus honed in not only do you accomplish more, but your brain get’s a squirt of dopamine and the process is more enjoyable as well as more efficient.
Flow is perhaps most easily found in extreme sports as explained in the book “Rise of Superman” because one must focus… or die.
How to trigger flow states.
In order to trigger a flow state in your daily work you need to have a specific task or job at hand, removal of random interruptions, and a set duration for which you engage in a super focused state.
It takes away from limited mental energy stores to “resist” the temptation of Facebook, twitter, email, Skype etc… So shutting those off and putting your computer and our work area in a “do not disturb” state is first and foremost.
Next I recommend a timer like “Concentrate”

To determine how long you will be working and focusing.
Lastly, know what set of tasks you’ll be working on so you can focus all your energy ONLY on those tasks for that limited amount of time.
The countdown to focus.
Base jumpers use a countdown … 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - JUMP!
To give them a cue to enter a focused state and push them into action.
I recommend using one as well before you start a hyper focused flow session of your work.
A countdown can give you the final moments before you enter the twilight zone.
As you work, attempt to ONLY allow your mind to focus on the task and job at hand, until the end timer signals.
Then take a 5 - 10 minute break, and restart.
Your work sessions can be 20 - 40 minutes long.
Start your flow-down!
Give this a try and see how you feel to be able to trigger hyper focused working sessions.
I’ve found it to be fun, and almost exhilarating to treat work sessions almost like extreme sport events, or deep meditation sessions.
Often I get so into the task at hand that I ride the wave momentum for an a couple hours.
Do you have any tips or suggestions for achieving and maintaining deep focused states while working?

Technology is the biggest distraction without a doubt! But people can also be a distraction. You should always have a dedicated work area.

Hi--Yep I have been doing that for many years now and it does work for me.
Is that link your website or you an affiliate of it--If so do they have a affiliate sign up page?
Coach Ed
PS I don't know if you know this ---WA does not allow us to put our money making links here at WA. You can PM Kyle to make sure of the exact rule. I though you may want to know.
It’s just some software I like, no affiliation. Thanks for the heads up though.
I guess a lot of people do something similar called Pomodoro… is that what you do?
Some what like that but with my own twist--I add my own --The Cronin Four Step Process to completing any task. I have taught that for 40 years and sold it to companies I was doing consulting work for.
I am now writing the eBook on it.
Well --I just hit my time allotted for this daily tasks. Step one for the next one --
Thanks
